Solaris ZFS

March 25th, 2008

In the process of migrating a NFS server from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 and to new hardware. In that process I have discovered that ZFS is quite nice. I had been using Solaris Volume Manager, but now that I am using ZFS I do not want to go back to SVM.

ZFS is very simple to work with. Creating, deleting, moving filesystems is very straight forward. In addition NFSv4 has some additional features to deal with security.

Getting closer to my final project. I am ready to transfer data. Testing is complete. Final transfer of data has been put on put on hold until Engineering completes their project.

So I am moving my backup library from an old subnet to the new server subnet and onto a faster media server. Whoo hoo.
