Epic 3 mile downhill on WPR yesterday. No, I didn't start at the top (duh) but a gorgeous 3 mile mellow track from Lone Pine Campground down.
Took it super slow, had some traffic but handled that just fine. Best part was the crusty old forest service (or whatever) guy that took back up the hill. Didnt have to walk 1 step!!!!
Sublime.

Will be difficult to top that one.

nice...how is the snow looking up higher? I need to get up to finish some goals in the high country.
-
its melting fast. from what i understand on the reg trail of whitney there is still enough snow to warrant an axe or at least poles. i think the mtnrs route is still requiring cramps. russell east ridge looks clear as does getting to fishhook arete.
no snow at all at horseshoe meadow but i think there is a decent amount still on new army pass.
have heard more northern areas (bear creek spire) still have a lot of snow (cox col) and car to car would be burly.
heard shepard pass is doable without cramps if you hit when its soft, snow starts at anvil camp and is patchy to the pass. i think the north rib of tyndall has a bit of snow that might force you to some 4th class.

Thanks.....looking to pull Russell and East Buttress in a few days and it's likely I'll have permits in 2 weeks. Either that or I push to later in the Summer.
-
what route on russell? i might be up that way the weekend of the 6th. if so i ill take pics.
-
Fishhook. Moved it a month or so.....I want it more mid season and likely mid-week. Hopefully I'll be flying in with a pal on his plane. Nice and looking forward to it.

Is munge becoming an Alpinist???
Squiddo and I are hitting Temple Crag in August. Should be nice if the T-Storms aren't too bad.
-
road, not weather conditions :)

Munge, you taking up skating now too? F4 is looking for an ATV now. That's right.....he's a true redneck.

ATV? you mean like a Rhino? Sweet! Load the cooler and cruise from East Side crag to East Side Crag all along FS roads.
Otherwise, Honda CRF230L should work just right.

A Redneck's wet dream, sign me up! Imagine cruzing to the crags..over the wilderness signs...with a cooler in the back.

there was a lot of traffic and a strong headwind, but it was still fun. the real gem is lower rock creek road from swall meadows into paradise. cant wait to ride that one!!
-
any pics?
btw, can't you run LRC from 395? I think Swall (residential area?) is further down the grade. Don't recall the specifics tho.
-
Lower Rock Cree/Old Sherwin Grade is runable all the way down to Rovana on a skateboard, I think. The road surface is pretty good for the most part. I've only gone up the hill on my bike, but that gave me plenty of time to check out the road... :)

Munge....rode that last Tuesday. Down LRC trail and lapped the upper 2 sections once. Then all the downhill to Paradise. Lastly I finished up on the 8.5 miles of road on the LRC road back to the car. The first 4 miles of road from Paradise nearly killed me as you climb on a slope to Swall, all the while exposed to 90's of sun. I was worked afterwords.
Luckily a beer and shot at Toms place made it all better.
-
from a skateboard standpoint it looked good from about swall to paradise, maybe a little further. after that it would be boring.
going to try to get back up there this weekend.
would be cool to block traffic on 168 and roll for 17 miles from sabrina.

you riding the road now?
