Looks cool. I take it you can set upper and lower limits for heart rate. Would be cool to map out runs and look at elevation profiles. But, as always Uncle Sam is watching. I guess I could start using one then the man will know just how awesome I am.

I like the HRM and altimeter function for mountaineering. Mr Mud has the right idea with setting your upper heart rate. It's great because you can set your pace and know when to take a rest.
I use the Sunnto X3 (?) it's $150 and pretty light. I don't know how light the Garmin would feel on your wrist.
The HRM would allow you to do threshold training which in time helps you areobic threshold (?? it's been a while). Essentially it lets you run at a higher HR, think Lance.
But man, a HRM & GPS in one is pretty techie.

i just bought this sucker.

Post up how it works. Can you set high and low heart rate thresh holds? sycn it to your computer?

yes on all of those. it also graphs your elevation gain.
only issue so far (and a big one) is i am not able to acquire satellites!>!?!?!
got one once yesterday, but since then, its been searchin and searchin..
right now i have it on the bumper of my van for the past two hours.. gonna go now and see if it picked up a signal yet.

That would suck if it can't pick up satellites.

yeah, on the phone (30 minute wait) with tech support right now. if this is ongoing, ill return it.
-
looks like a faulty unit. will return tomorrow and report how the new one works.

bump.
my new 301 works pretty good but twice now the HRM has pissed out on me mid run. it picks back up, but its a pain.
thinking about getting this now:

Any advice on handheld units?

I recommend you hold your unit firmly with your hand.
