Title: Anybody ever ride Highway 25?
Post by: ChalonePinot on May 11, 2011, 10:05:47 AM
Sorry if it's a dumb question or addressed elsewhere, but I'm from the North Bay and was wondering if anyone regularly rides Highway 25 south of Hollister.  I scoped it years ago and have had it in the back of my mind as a possible great tandem ride.  Any info on traffic, terrain, road conditions, etc., would be most appreciated!

The local Low Key bicycling group does a Low Key race there every year.  There is a bit of traffic.  I have not ridden it but I know Joe has several times.  He seems to enjoy it.

There was some other event on the highway there a couple of weeks ago.  Quite often see bikes as I drive down.  Does look fun on a tandem.

I've ridden it from Gilroy to about 10 miles past the Pinnacles-Eastside turn. It's not too bad traffic-wise. The Almaden Cycle Touring Club does a ride in December or January that goes there (The Winter Solstice Century/Double Century -the century starts in Gilroy, the double in San Jose). I can't vouch for it on hot days... But it was nice in the 55 degree weather in December of '09!
