Title: mountain biking partner needed asap
Post by: V-Rock on June 10, 2012, 09:14:29 PM
Hi. I am interested in doing some serious mountain biking in this area. I have been on a cross country road trip (helping a friend move) and will be in Pleasanton San Fran area this Tuesday.  I need to rent/borrow a bike (i brought my shoes, etc) I kick butt. Anyone interested in taking me for a tour? i will be in area til next Wednesday.  i will be climbing, hiking, etc...  rental bike info would be helpful as well. thank you. veronica
p.s. I'm from connecticut, love single track.

Tread bicycles, Passion Trail bikes and I think Trailhead all have rental mtb bikes.  Passion Trails does a Wednesday after work ride at Water Dog Park and the are usually accommodating.  Water Dog is small but fun.  Fair amount of trails for the space.  Bicycle Outfitters rents road bike for $50 a day.  You might get someone here on the site to take you to the pins or to Sonora.  Mudworm and I tend to go big on the weekend.  Today we did 50 miles and 11,000 feet on the MTB.  It hurt, it was hot, I saw a rock and thought it was a sweet potato.

Apparently, Mr. Mud was knackered from today's big ride -- Pinns and Sonora are for climbers!

I'll post up something tomorrow with ride information. Quite a few scheduled rides in the area.

Today's ride link: Go deep, go big, and go have some fun (or pain?) at Coe - Bear Mtn, here we come! (http://app.strava.com/rides/10563028)

Veronica, as you can tell from this biking forum that the user base is tiny -- just me and Mr. Mud posting rides occasioanlly. Unfortunately, we are usually too busy with work to plan a ride midweek and sometimes even on weekend. MTBR NorCal (http://forums.mtbr.com/california-norcal) forum has hundreds of active riders posting rides there, so maybe you want to give that a try. Here is a list of information you may find helpful:

1) Wednesday ride at Waterdog (http://www.passiontrailbikes.com/pages/weeklyrides): The ride starts at Passion Trail Bikes. You can call them to see if they can fit you with a rental. Usually they can.
2) Thursday Night Gap Ride (http://forums.mtbr.com/california-norcal/2012-tngr-episode-5-ride-d-792017.html) (TNGR): put together by MTBR. Being going on for five weeks. See forum for post or ask on the forum.
3) Sports Basement Sunday Group Ride (http://community.sportsbasement.com/free-classes/bike/): follow the link and you can ask them for rental too.

There is a Wednesday Skeggs Ride (http://forums.mtbr.com/california-norcal/skeggs-ride-tomorrow-wednesday-5pm-794930.html). Click on link for details. You can post to that thread to let them know you are coming.

Between this one and Waterdog, I recommend this one, although Waterdog is fun too.

thanks! it's super fun too!! - an adventure with every ride...many parallels to lead climbing - determination, focus, balance, leap of faith to get started, committing, core engagement, fear control - it keeps my head in the game :)

Dude, that is awesome.  I want!!!!

I rode a 20 uni in the dirt when I was younger.  Would really like to try a uni with bigger wheels.  Have heard it works much better.

the 36" is like a cadillac - smooth and stable but takes some getting used to. if you've ridden before you can probably pick it back up pretty quick. i can give you the skinny in a PM later.
