The Rocky Mountain High just got a whole lot higher. On Tuesday night, Amendment 64 -- the measure which sought the legalization of marijuana for recreational use by adults -- was passed by Colorado voters, making Colorado the first state to end marijuana prohibition in the United States.
Washington State is right behind them.

Initiative 502 has passed in Washington State, with portions of the measure becoming law on December 6th of this year (the 1 ounce decrim and the new DUID mandate). The rest will follow a year later. Regardless of what side of the debate you were on, this is the reality of our current cannabis policies in Washington State. Part of Initiative 502 will soon be law.

Failing in Oregon.

Ballot Measure 80 would have legalized and regulated the sale and growth of marijuana

Silly, silly California.

It's not legal till congress changes the law or cannabis is removed from the schedule 1 narcotics list.

It is a start. If more states legalize marijuana, it is just a matter of time before the feds get on board.
I do not smoke and will not, but legalizing it makes sense. In Washington one of the reasons it was legalized was the legislation had very strong backing from law enforcement.
California blew it.
Read a report a while back that talked about how much money legalizing marijuana in the USA would remove from the coffers of the Drug Cartels. Cocaine is still their largest income but Marijuana is number two. Legalizing marijuana is a no brainer.

look at Prohibition as an example of how long it took to change a major law.

true, but look how long people have been trying to end prohibition on canibus
