Do we have a tentative date?
-
Not really...
I originally put out 4/19-21, but the response was so, so....
The last tenative date was 4/12-14.
But it's my quarter end...so I can't commit.
I do see the AAC having tenative dates for...gulp..5/17-19.

That quarter end shite sounds like accountant talk.
The phrases I dread are close week, quarter close, year-end close and the auditors are coming.
Thanks for the update!
-
I can screw around just about any time during the year....except for 2 weeks every 3 months..small price to pay.

KC needs to find a gig like that. She has close week every month plus the quarters and year end.
-
Now we've got unalterable, non-climbing family commitments on both weekends, April 20/21 and April 27/28. April 13/14 is looking really good for us.

Now we've got unalterable, non-climbing family commitments on both weekends, April 20/21 and April 27/28. April 16/17 is looking really good for us.
That ain't a weekend cap'n.
-
Best for some one else to book the site as I can't commit.
They have Group site 130 next to the road....not so private.
-
April 16/17 is looking really good for us.
Did you mean March? April 16/17 is a Tues/Wed.
-

No. I meant April, but I typed in the wrong dates. I fixed it (to be the second weekend of April).

Sounds good. I think the # of posts counter is stuck again...Mr Mud - it must need some grease :)
-
All post counts go to me.
Thanks!
The group site #130 by the road was availible the 12-14th..
-
"Was." Does that mean that you went ahead and booked it?
If so, thanks as always for taking the laboring oar on this rendezvous thing.
-
Just got the AAC dates - May 17-19th.
Nothin' says we gotta do it with them.
Thoughts?
-
It is nice to have it at the same time since it makes it a bigger group and gets all the mudders together at the same time
-
That weekend is good for me. We'll want some shade.
-
Thoughts?
Free boooze!
Good enough for me.
They are a good crowd.
-
Sign me up! I sent money to the AAC last year for the event. Should send money to the AAC again or is someone from Mud 'n Crud organizing?
-
It's thier deal.
most of us are already members...
-
Rockpile 2013 is the AAC's deal? I thought the Rockpile was coordinated with the AAC and "mud 'n crud" last year?
-
Rockpile was the original name for the official "gathering".
We couldn't think of anything else better...choss climbers unity?? They are calling thier event this year something else....
Last year, I worked with the AAC to get the dates aligned as a loose co-event.
This year I dropped the ball, but next year I now know who to talk with.
So it's my goal to start it up in November...to go bigger!
-
Filthy Dirty Son of a Breccia Event?
-
filthy dirty mudders
-
It's being billed by the AAC as the SNS Climb-Unity event.
Almost sounds religious...
-
Now if only we could get a corporate sponsor??
The BudLite Lime theme song starts to go through my head!!
-
Erik, do we have a definite date for our rendezvous now? If so, were you able to reserve a group campsite?
I'm trying to make plans and among them, our rendezvous is quite high on the list (so I don't want to plan something else for then).
-

This was the last word I saw Brad.
-
I love how erik says he's not organizing it this season, but Brad keeps trying. :)
-
I'm serious, I can't do anything for April.
Work has to come 1st. I'm in the big time.
May, heck yes I'll be there.
-
Oh for criminy's sake boys - you're still talking, talking, talking about this? Do I need to take the freaking reigns and make the site reservation??
As my Nana was fond of saying: Shit or get off the pot.
May 17-19, yay or nay?
(F4, I hear ya loud and clear. You're off the planning-hook!)
-
Update - there are no group sites avail that weekend.
-
I love the misspelling on this...if you take the reigns does that make you queen?
-
Duh. "Queen of Crud"
:P
-
Fer me May 17-19 is a yay.
Where else will you hear about Santa Cruz local laws such as if you hit an animal you have to give it 1st aid.
-
Update - there are no group sites avail that weekend.
Damn! - look who crawled out from under her pile of moss and choss!!!
Good to see you reactivate. Did someone rein or rope you in?
Looks like the M&C 'ers will have to crash the party...
-
Looks like the Queen is in control
-
Looks like the Queen is in control
That she is!
-
Whatever.
You should have actually revoked my MnC card a long time ago based on how much (aka little) choss I've pulled lo these many months.
Anyhoo...I think we're plumb outta luck and just need to start kissing some AAC ASS.
I looked from now thru May and there are no group sites avail.
That's whatcha git for being all talk and no action.
Typical men.
::)
-
:frown:
-
I know. Drat.
-
I'm a member!
But even if not, email Rodell. He's pretty cool.
They should have space
Did I mention free beer?
-
Whatever.
You'll ALWAYS be the Queen to us Crux.
I just checked the latest email from the AAC with a link to sign up and it shows sold out.
Guess we'll have to do day trips in or stay on the Soledad side and hike the Old Pinnacles trail over.
Alternatively we could sneak in from the west and pull all their topropes off TT, Disco and Mono! insert EVIL grin here...
-
Crap, I honestly thought we were on for April 13/14 but there was still some hemming and hawing going on.
Crux, since you are the Queen and we all love you, would you consider looking into two or three adjacent "normal" campsites that are together and/or across the road from on another? And is the April 13/14 weekend out for most people?
We should also plan a SPH "introducing THE BOOK weekend."
-
ya'll can get a site next to each other...?
-
Yes! Pinnacles Weekend up on 108!!!
I'll find some appropriately loose mud caked cobblefests.
You all don't flake, and show up.
We'll rope the hell out of some climbs.

That's a long way for me to drive from Kennedy Meadows back to the bivvy site. ;)
Can I be an impromptu show up?

-
I don't make the rules - I just get shit done. ;)
Kick ass. We'll be there (and Munge, 108 will not be open beyond the lowest closure gate by then). I think my friend Joel is coming again and he's trying to get his wife and daughter to come too.

I think he prefers Turkish prisons.

Brad, I know a guy who spent a decade or two in a Turkish prison and his reminiscences convince me that such is not for Munge.

Idunno Bob. If he's desperate enough to stop sniffing glue, it seems that the next stop might be a Turkish prison. Oh, and don't call me Shirley.
-
Maybe I need a hospital?
A hospital? What is it?
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

Now you're "talking"!

John, your last post here is simply unacceptable. It is squirrely, unclear, nebulous, and of dubious meaning.
Please confirm clearly whether you will be attending the rendezvous or not. And then we'll start working on your ability to cah muu ni kate.

Whatever John. Like you are really planning on climbing somewhere else that weekend?
-
Ours is an annual gathering of folks.
Yes, 99% of us are AAC.
The AAC put a weekend for thier thing in May.
Both will be good times and have great people to hang out with.
Yes, it would be cool to co-sponsor, but I didn't reach out back in Dec.
They just changed section chairs, so there's next year.

So you'll be setting up ropes on all the popular routes...right?
Mr Mud needs all the help he can get.

Mwahaha... Yeah, just the vision of monopolizing all the Disco Wall and Monolith routes for the Rockpile weekend is pretty entertaining!

Hey ya all enjoy and have fun! I'm out of state for this year's Pile On.
-
so who is definitely (not maybe) doing this thing? and is there any specific thoughts about group cragging destinations? my guess is shade will be desirable... are we trying to coordinate anything, or simply doing our own thing?
-
so who is definitely (not maybe) doing this thing? and is there any specific thoughts about group cragging destinations? my guess is shade will be desirable... are we trying to coordinate anything, or simply doing our own thing?
We'll be there. I'm kinda hooked on doing my own thing but will be flexible at least part of the time.
-

And what are your own thoughts, Joe?
Three of us will be there (Katie's staying home to do the final preparation of her High School Senior Exit Project, which is to take place the following Saturday). One or three of the Primroses are coming, and two friends of mine from Sonora are likely to attend too.
I've got ideas about what/where I want to climb, but will focus more on being social than any big agenda.
-
are we trying to coordinate anything
Beer and shade
-
I don't have an agenda...bringing someone that has only been to the Pinnacles once, teaching rock with some kids, so at some point would like to show her some classics, but shade is most likely desirable...pretty open to the social experience...where are you thinking of going Brad?
-
I'll probably be there at least for a day, depending on taxes. Upper Crust would be worthy shade. Ranger Bolts is in the shade mostly. Just sayin. :)
If it's blazing hot though, I'm out, but I'll kick Crux cash to save me a spot in either case.
-
I am planning arriving on Friday. Ready and willing for anything as long as we are climbing.
-
Wish I could make it but I'm out. I toyed with the notion of going just for the day but as it stands now, Marc 3.0 is being born tomorrow. I'm rather fond of keeping the wife happy for all the times I AM gone to forgo being gone 3 days after my son is born.
Have fun, drink deep in live and experience. Hope to see you all soon.
Brad- love to make it up the pass this Summer. Maybe get some baby sitting from Katie!
-
I'm rather fond of keeping the wife happy for all the times
We'll miss you! - but if momma's not happy - ain't nobody happy!
-
Hey gang - I'm a definite maybe. For sure not Friday night.

Rubine as well? I'll have my Blue guide.
I'm looking @ Saturday night. SUnday for sure.

Time fer Mungie to step up. Tell work you have to leave early on Friday...official business or use the passed family member excuse.
-
If i step up everyone is getting in the back of my truck and heading to granite.
-
Marc 3.0 is being born tomorrow.
He's beautiful man -congrats!!
-
Yes, Vicki showed me the post on that other site that relies on books and faces.
He looks great. Nice name (certainly better than calling him "Marc 3.0..."). Congratulations to your family, Marc, life doesn't get much better.
-
Thanks so much
-
Congratulations!!!!
-
Massive thread drift but thanks. Have fun this weekend, be safe. Ill be there in spirit!
-
When are you selling your gear?
-
I'll be working through early afternoon today (Friday) but can be around Saturday and Sunday. If folks have destinations in mind, I'll meet up. Otherwise I'll be out and about to see who I come across.
-
Rats!
We won't be there. So sad to miss a great time. Can't wait to see gobs of pics (of peoples butts).
KC has graciously offered to collect the dough. So be extra nice to her or she'll charge you double.
Have fun and be safe!
-
Bummer Crux.
Just breaking, executive order....we will be there tonight.
-
I'm debating about whether to come or not. I am now suffering from a devastating finger injury. Not sure if I want to be around rock or not, but it would be good to be around everyone.
Back to painting I guess...
-
bummer on the finger Adam.
Aaron and I are heading down around 1 - 1:30 this afternoon and will get tents setup and hopefully go out and do a few routes before Kat joins us after she gets off work. Fires are allowed right now. What do you guys normally do for wood?
-
Adam just come down and drink and paint. Sorry to hear about the finger, heal up quick and much good mojo to you.
-
I have to guide a group at Castle rock Saturday morning but hope to get down there early evening. Jon and friends have a site so they are headed down for sure, probably will just jump in with them to get down there.
-
Good site Lisa!
Nice job.
The Youngs usually bring some wood.
More is always better.
-
Wow, I didn't know the event is on this weekend. I can't go, but me thinks that Mud should go for Saturday. (Will need him on Sunday since we have an inspection scheduled for Tuesday.) Anyone else going for a day trip and want to carpool?
-
We'll be there tomorrow.
I just saw that the AAC deal in May is sold out...!
Must be the free beer...1 night only.
-
Yeah, where will you guys be climbing tomorrow?
-
I have other plans, but told my climbing buddy Jane about this, so maybe one more. Not sure if she's ever climbed at the Pinns before or not.
oh, and Congrats Marc !
-
I saw a viscious post on that other site. The Young's are out as Sonora Pass opened to Kennedy Meadows.
-
I saw a viscious post on that other site. The Young's are out as Sonora Pass opened to Kennedy Meadows.
Nope, Pinns is always better than Sonora Pass.
The Youngs are out though. I've just put in two non-stop, ultra-stressful days on top of a hard earlier part of the week (and I'm still at the office). For example I was in trial all day today. I'm flat out exhausted. The thought of getting home, packing and then doing a 3 1/2 hour drive is almost enough to make me cry right now. I can't do it.
I also got the proof from the printer of the whole guidebook text today and I've got to find time to review that to make sure everything is printed right. I can't do it all.
-
Well I guess JC and KC are the stars of the show now... Joe is a close second as he will assure proper amounts of adult beverages are consumed.
-
Gee Brad, you could always sit in the campsite and read the proof...very relaxing.
-
It was a fun day. Everyone that is anyone was there ;)
I took a few pictures and will post up later.

Got a good day in today, even though I couldn't make it yesterday.
Hope everyone had fun.
-
We had a gas. Thanks to everyone that came out and especially those that contributed extra funds to offset the camping fee. We did find one thing kinda strange....how did the oldest climbers last the longest? We expected to see the gang from Disco again later in the day but after we finished Lost Sister there was no one in sight. We hiked back past the Monolith and took the climbers trail back along Disco but everyone had bailed. No cars in the parking lot and no one at the Mexican Food in Tres Pinos. Will post more later...
-
I'm weak, and I owe you money for camping. ;D
-
I think I left my camelback bladder @ the campsite.
We looked for you yesterday. Yah lazy bum!
-
Yah lazy bum!
long week + April 15th deadline meant couldn't get out.
-
Mudworm said the same thing...
-
I think I left my camelback bladder @ the campsite.
I remember seeing one this morning but didn't know it was yours.
We weren't the last ones out - Brad's friend Joel might know.
-
Thank you Lisa for reserving the space. Thank you Kathy for collecting the money. I had a wonderful time. Very nice to see everyone and enjoyed meeting new friends. Thanks to everyone that participated. Sorry more you you could not make it. I only regret that I spent all of money that I was saving for the new guide book on BLL.
-
Mean and spiteful....
you know me so well.

Okay - here is a TR and a few choice pics. Aaron and I headed down Friday afternoon about 2, set up camp and hit the Tourist Trap for a bit. I wanted to warm up on Supply Side Hamster but I was wearing shorts and forgot my bug juice and the skeeters were devouring my legs back there in the shade. Without much time to spare we decided to try Thrill Hammer 5.8**. Now I was a bit wary having looked at it on a previous occasion(when I led Pastie) and I had myself a bit psyched out knowing it was a Rubine FA. I seem to have more trouble than usual on his routes. Hitting it cold and feeling a bit rushed probably didn't help either. Long story short, I evidently was a little off my game and slightly off balance. I managed to get gripped and ended up hanging on the first crux - needless to say I was PISSED! I really wanted to get that one clean and I only missed by one move. Oh well...sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug (did I mention I loathe country music?). I got back on my feet, cruised to the top and really enjoyed placing the gear and pulling the exit moves over the bulge. I'll have to go back for a redpoint.
Aaron ran a few toprope laps along TH and a flaky line to the left and we headed back to meet KC and get some pizza and beer.
Ryan and Chantal joined us after dinner and we had a relaxing and fairly early night with a small fire.
Saturday we headed up about 9:00 and went directly back to the Hamsters. Aaron and I took turns onsighting Supply Side Hamster 5.7* and moved up to the upper routes. I led Crampster 5.1 and Aaron followed far enough to get the few pieces I placed and then transitioned on to Hamsternomics 5.8. KC followed and we all went back down, had a snack and crawled up the Hamster Hole so I could lead Hamsternomics.

I don't usually get 4 onsights in a day, so I didn't care what we did the rest of the afternoon(slacker!). As the afternoon got closer to supper time, thoughts of beer and food started the parade back(Joe Mud and Gavin). Aaron tried the hard stuff on TR and we pulled the rope and headed back toward camp.
We had a good crowd Saturday night and stayed up past midnight - WAY beyond our bedtime!
Sunday took us back to Disco with a bunch of different groups and partners. Aaron took Laura and Kristen up Portent and KC and I decided on Lost Horizons. We were lost the rest of the day! That climb has it all - awkward and tricky, committing, scary and fun. I think it is the real Ordeal - certainly more of an ordeal for me!

I was too sketched out on the thin traverse to get another piece in and truly screwed KC on second. Now we both understand the art of screwing the 2nd!

After we finished that, we went back down to see what everyone was doing. Joel led the Cleft and Laura and Kristen followed while Aaron took a shot at leading Stupendous Man.

We decided to head to the Monolith with an eye towards leading the Direct Route but there was someone getting ready to start it - so we continued on to the Sisters. I had been wanting to try Lost Sister for a while, so we kept with the Lost theme and finished on that. I thought it was an enjoyable route.
JC leads Lost Sister 5.7* I got two sling knobs and a nut in before the first bolt.

Great finish to a fun day and an enjoyable weekend!!!

Nice report J.C. It sounds like we missed out on a great weekend. But, in retrospect I made the right decision and the weekend here went well. I got the book proof all reviewed (which took several hours).
I also settled for climbing on granite yesterday; I only got two new routes done, but I did also get a satisfying clean TR of an 11a crack (which was my third try on the climb, I've yet to get the lead clean).

We missed you guys! Glad you had a productive weekend. I'm itchin' to set some reliable pro on quality rock - although I felt like I had some decent stuff in a few spots on the crud.
Give our best to the fam.

That was a fun night on Saturday... I've never had Fireball before.

It is NOT snowing at our house right now. I'm not sure what those damn white things that are falling from the sky are, but it's not snow. It can't be. >:(
-
it's all good, so long as it melts off before the weekend.

Yesterday temps were prrrrfect and a strong wind plus some advanced rigging techniques allowed me to get the Taj Mahal dry quickly and put back in storage after the Rockpile :)

What I want to know is with Aaron leading up a Pinnacles Classic in the background and JC exercising safe belaying practice by wearing a helmet, why all you noticed was Mud being color matched, which without a doubt was accidental.
