have to think about it. that is a long way out, heck I do not know what I am doing tomorrow.
-
What do you mean you don't know what you are doing tomorrow?
You are picking me up @ 7am on your way to the Pinnacles.
-
We're up for any date. Perfect day in the High Peaks yesterday.
-
Update, I was later getting a group site....so all I could get was Easter Weekend.
April 18-20
Friday> Sunday
Who is in? If it's a low turnout, I'll kill the reservation.
-
Youngs are in (three of us).
-
Oh, and I like the "new" name: the Masters of Mud weekend. Catchy. Maybe there'll be some catchy mugs ready by then?
-
That would be a good date to have them available.
-
If he had a picture....
-
have a pic. will create a demo soon.
-
Maters o Mud
I love Maters, too bad the fees are sooo expensive!

The $1.50 is for the can recycling.
-
I can bring bottles instead.
Though of course you do realize that April is outside of the Pinnacles season. Just saying.

Loaded statement, given there is no snow.
But is wouldn't be a masters o mud weekend if we met @ Chipmunk Flat.

In. X2.
-
Great to hear!
-
There might be more than three coming from this neck of the woods, but they (Joel and Michelle - they've been before) can't commit yet.
-
Hey, that weekend sounds good to me. I can't guarantee yet, but I'm sure my dad and I will make it at least for the first couple days. Thanks for putting this together!

Shameless bump.
Don't forget.:-)
Even Mungie is welcome.

Even Mungie is welcome.
We've now got either four or five coming from here. Some possibility of seven or eight.
-
Great!!
-
Oh, and I forgot to ask: How are the MoM mugs coming along? Will they be ready by then?
-
should be.

me and my wife ;)

Please save a spot for me and two offsprung.

me and my wife ;)
J.C. your grammar is incorrect because you left your sentence incomplete. Specifically, "me and my wife" lacks a verb. The sentence also lacks an object. And finally, it is improperly capitalized.

JC, bend over, Brad wants to spank you.

JC, bend over, Brad wants to spank you.
I think he just did!
-
I am going to talk with Riddell and see if we can get the AAC to join the fun.
-
Aaron, fuzz off.
-
wankers!
(Just kidding, the AAC are good folks)
They have set their weekend for May I think.
To work, we and they needed to have made reservations back in November.
-
Does this event have any relation to Kelly Rich's bachelor party which is also taking place at the campground?
-
No relation. Tell Kelly Congrats.
-
Nope.
-
F4,
My daughter Rachel was bothered when I mentioned the condors being fed sheep. She said "Sheep! Why don't they feed them chickens, which are only good for food and eggs, Sheep have wool?" What have I done? She is a specie-ist.
-
At least the condors get chickens.
You might notice if climbing with Mr Mud they tend hover around him.
Either he looks so scraggly and they don't think he'll make it back to the car (they can hope) or they were told about his encounter with the deer that one day.
-
Oh deer. Now tell us the story.
Did he try going vegan only to the inner carnivor come out and attacked Bambie?
-

No, that was THE BAD DAY for Mr Mud. Lost most of his climbing gear in the morning and wrecked his motorcycle (and various of his body parts) on a deer in the evening...
-
Stom and the deer head an expected meeting on the road.
Maybe he will tell us then story.
-
That was a dark period for me. Lost my climbing pack on the back of my motorcycle on the way down to the Pins. Went up and down the Freeway and Highway but it was gone. On the way back a rutting buck decided I was to good of competition and attacked me head down, antlers into the front wheel. I my ZX11 (not a light bike) endo'd. I skittered down the road for a bit. Upper body was fine since I had a good riding jacket. At one point while tumbling I smacked my knee right into the road and I only had blue jeans on and ended up with a large blood blister right on my knee cap. At another point I kind of spun on my head and could hear the road grinding on my helmet ( then something caught and I tumbled).
As I came to a stop I looked up he road and the buck crawled out from under my bike, jumped the fence and ran up the hill. The bike was un-ridable since the right hand side case was busted open and most of the plastics were gone. Not to long after picking up the bike a truck came by, with three guys in it, and I managed to talk them into putting my bike into the back of their truck and giving me a ride to the Earthquake Bar and Grill where I met Brad, Rob, Mike A and I think a few other folks. We fed the guys and gave them a beer or two. I think Brad pick up the tab (thank you Brad). Everyone then went outside and moved my bike from the back of their truck to the back of Rob's truck.
I lost almost all of my thin gear and a rope. Shoes and harness were in my tank bag. This was not to long after my girl asked me to move out of the house. Bunch of the sh1t was going on. It was a bit like a Country Western song.
-
It was a bit like a Country Western song.
clink can probably come up with some lyrics - then you just need 3 chords - G, C and D are standard :)

I remember that night. That was too weird.
-
There should also be a thank you Munge for getting my bike home.

Getting excited! Anyone else going on Friday morning?
I am highly likely to need a ride Friday morning. Kat may not be able to join until evening and I don't want to take two vehicles. Can I hitch a ride with you guys?
-
That should work. Call me and we can work out the details.
-
Okay Mungie, I'll waive the can fee....will you attend?
-
Okay Mungie, I'll waive the can fee....will you attend?
Did Laura and Kristen contact Mr Mud to save a space?
What about Adam and Joe?
hello hello hello is there anybody out there...just mud if you can hear me...
-
Joe and I are likely to show Friday and leave early Sunday.
But you know us... we don't need "official" spaces
And will bribe our way in with adult beverages.
Should we plan on bringing anything for communal meals?
-
My goal is to collect enough for the site fee.
Plus I have to make my annual donation to help pay for the visitor's center.
I mean buy another annual pass.
-
OK I'll pay but everyone better be really really funny!
-
Paging Mungie, are you there?
If you are not going this weekend, shall we bolt your open lines and glue the loose holds?
-
Not going. Got better things happening.
Maybe go play climber with my nephew. Got him a little helmet harness and shoes!
-

pffffft!

Well Katie just called and she and her friends can't make it - they don't have a ride up from Santa Barbara. That is a HUGE disappointment for me. She may be a pest, but I sure like her a lot.

Well Phooey! or should I say Tepui? Gesundheit. Thank you...
Damn - does that mean the BY Clan is down to 3 or are you counting the hounds?
Any word on J&M?
-
I am getting in the last bit of resort skiing and hunting eggs on Sunday. Have fun and take some photos.

We are down to three (plus two dogs).
Joel and Michelle are totally wrapped up and can't make it.
-
Tepui? Gesundheit? Schnitzel?
Are dogs allowed?
I'm so confused.
Get well, Lisa!
-
Are dogs allowed?
There are huge limits on where dogs can go at Pinns. They definitely can't go to the climbing crags. But we are on our way south (after MoM) for a week off and so they're coming with us (my wife doesn't climb and will hang out with them during the day).
Great avatar/photo, BTW.
-
Whatever! This just about the same dropout rate as last year. We will still have fun no matter what! It is better than working...
Lisa broken bones suck but you need to make Phil drive you down at the very least for Saturday evening...then you can resume the pitty party!
-
I am trying to invite a couple of people.
-
Aaron, you must have a one man preformance for Saturday evening??? Something special?
-

I agree: Crux and Phil ned to show up, if only for the evening. And bring a bunch of sharpie markers so we can have a cast signing party.
-
I think she should get her mug.
kind of hard to argue with Brad. I know from experience ;)
-
Yes, Crux still needs to show up.
And sign guidebooks for us. ;D
-

good memory!!

I'll never forget.
You still need to sign mine!

In one...
-
Actually, I gapped. My business partner Scott (2007 guidebook, page 86) and his 14 year old daughter are also coming. That's 5 from this area then.
-
Me, a young 48, Laura 16, and Rachel 14, maybe one more.
Next guide book ain't legit without me on the cover or on a fold out (like the National Geographic's used to have) It would be ok if some of you were standing near or belaying me. Waldo is to tall and might make me look short, so he would have to be sitting or in the background.

i wouldn't have pegged you for a diva ::)

When is the next guide out?
All of my climbs need more stars

THE.
Not a.

My plans for this weekend have become a little uncertain.
I had temporary vision loss in one of my eyes today. It was very scary.
My eye doctor thinks it was an Optical Migraine. If it happens again before the weekend then it's likely I wont make it.

dude - that is scary! i had a retinal vein occlusion a couple times where blood leaked out onto my retina and made part of my vision cloudy - took a couple different docs to figure out how to resolve it. my eye doc (an ophthalmologist) sent me immediately to a specialist.
-
Bummer, hope you can make it.
-
whoa, get well soon Atomizer and hope you make it.
-
I'm a little hesitant to drive on my own in case this eye thing relapses. I'll see how tomorrow goes. Could anyone give me a ride there from SC on Friday or Saturday? Unfortunately I would also need a ride back by 1145 Sunday for family obligations.
-
Hey Adam I'm thinking of driving up in the morning (Saturday), possibly with Dan Medeiros. We could go back early on Sunday if you want. 831 345 3380
-
adam
ive had these for decades and still remember how scary the first one was
i know them as aural migraines - my light show hits about 45 mins before the pain
but yours may not include the actual head pain and be ocular only
happy to talk to you about my experience
my advice is to still go this weekend (and have FUN!) but be mindful of changes in caffeine
-
Atom, was it like a kaleidoscope on a bad trip? Thats an ocular migraine.
Salt and caffeine double dose will set them off often.
-
Thanks for a GREAT weekend everybody!
-
That was the best! Thanks all!
-
Thanks all for putting this together / cooking / etc. Nice meeting you all!
Keep putting up new routes ;) And dont hesitate to throw in a few extra bolts. I'd like kristin to lead one day soon.....
-
Dina and I had a wonderful time. Thank you everyone for making it such a great weekend. F4 thanks for reserving the campsite and motivating people to join the fun. Mr. Mud thanks for the mugs!

Dearest beanolar: if you'd stuck around long enough yesterday we would have tied you into the sharp end and sent you up to do some drilling yourself. We would then have given you new route naming rights. AND, after that experience, you would never have used the words "throw in a few extra bolts." One does not "throw in" bolts (unless "one's" first name is Sylvester).
I for one am quite glad that you two came. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed my first five minutes of talking with another person as much as the first five minutes I spent talking to Kristin... ;)
-

Kristin and I might benefit by chewing Orbit gum - she might need a constant supply and I should probably try it while learning new techniques and lead bolting :)
-
Other highlights:
- Tricia leading three routes (including the Middle Route on the West Face of First Sister in one push);
- Adam's toprope of Topsy Turvy (all in dude, all in);
- Getting three new routes done myself;
- Getting to know Aaron better (and getting to know his wife Dina a little too);
- The mugs (thanks again Dennis; thanks for what you did for me, thanks for giving one to Vicki, and thanks for making sure that one was set aside for CruxLuv);
- Doubling the number of Cochran daughters that are part of our "crew" (great girls, Jon - just great);
- Little bitty K.C. learning to jumar on an overhanging rope;
- Seeing J.C. and Adam go grab a couple of summits together;
- Just having Vicki there;
- James hiking out to Tiburcio's and "bagging" his first Pinnacles summit;
- Seeing 28 turkey vultures in one tree ("going to watch TV");
- Having my partner Scott get out and hike some, and, mostly, meet some of the nuts I tell stories about on work days.
Another excellent trip.
-

I'm not sure I understand the "Orbit" reference, but I surely get what it would be designed to remedy ;D

How about my Houdini act? Not sure if that was a highlight or a low point!

KC was bad ass, look at that pic of her.
JC you did a reverse Houdini. It was amazing.
Aaron's bit sucked.
Aaron , JC and Brad, great leading on the FAs and drilling.
The ladies were sure having a good time on the Toe, lots of laughing.
Rachel finally climbed the high wall at the gym tonight. This is a huge deal for her.

Ahhhh - the reverse Houdini - completely bound up - Atom is the one who busted free :)
Good to know Rachel is ratcheting her game up a few notches!
-
meet some of the nuts I tell stories about on work days
Weren't we a "few" nuts short?
I guess the important ones were there at least....
My highlight was getting 2 mugs out of the deal!
-
Dude, that is my mug.
-
We brought our 1st Gen Mug to the gathering just to show to the folks what it looked like as it was a very limited edition. Who would have thought that F4 stole it off the picnic table when he snuck out on Saturday night!
Good thing he did because we completely forgot about it. At least it is sitting not too far from us right now, although who knows what F4 is doing with it at this moment.
-
Me? I saw that it needed protecting and placed it in a safe place.
I am drinking red wine with it.
I need a refill.

You got thug mugged!
-
F4 is a slippery character. Everyone better check for missing items. He gets James to distract you and then slithers in for the grab.
BTW, Laura thinks James is pretty bright and seems older than 5. He is 5 ??
-
He is 5 ??
5.5 Going on 16.
Yes he is sharp and it's hard to put one over him.
He has spent the whole week rigging 1:1, 2:1 and 3:1 hauling systems!
-
Sign that kid up for YOSAR. He's probably more mature than most of the kids on that team.
-
It must be the wife side for the brains....lucky him.
I didn't bring "the Other one" who is a natural climber.
I am already conditioning him with 30sec hangs @ the park each night.
