Henry Coe State Park April 6, 2014
Dan wrote and asked "Coe 4/4 or 4/5?". We went with 4/6.........
Dan on his awesome new Ibis Ripley 29er. That is the happiest I've ever seen him on a Coe fireroad. Behind him is Shiloh and their friend Jay:

Elderberry Spring Trail
What is a Coe ride without removing a fallen Pine? Jay had a mini-band saw:

Domino Pond Trail
Plim's boss, Jeff, happened along and also did the band-saw dance with Shiloh:

At the top of Domino Pond, Jay split off to be home in time for something. We went on down to Kelly Lake. Dan and Shiloh crossing the spillway:

A couple miles later, Mark found us taking a break and he joined us for most of the remainder of the ride. Dan and Mark had a spirited ride down Rose Dam, both setting KOMs. I was glad that Dan and Shiloh agreed to go out to White Tank/Rose Dam because I wanted to recon it for an ad hoc trailwork day (next post).
Our group on Live Oak Spring Trail, Mark is in gray:

Last time through, I left this impaled tree top:

We stopped and big Mark just, grrrrrrrrrrrrahhhhh, pushed it over the embankment.

Henry Coe State Park April 9, 2014
As mentioned above, on Sunday's run down Rose Dam Trail I was scouting out areas which needed brushing, particularly this section:

There were a few other minor spots but over the years, I had never gotten around to the above.
I arrived at Hunting Hollow at 8:30am to find that it was blocked-off for grading:

Ugh, after getting up early and driving for an hour, that wasn't what I wanted to see! The guys let me in, told me to park on the outer edge, and off I went up Lyman Willson Ridge Trail:

…on to the gateway to White tank/Rose Dam, the Hoover airstrip:

That is a bit of experimenting with the exposure setting on my camera, "ExposureBiasValue -1.00".
I did a few small touch-ups on Rose Dam Trail before getting to my primary target. Here it is again:

Along here we're nearing the valley floor and the old road cut is going straight down a ridge-line; the tight chamise grabs your handlebars and shreds your ankles. Before and after this section the trail is wide.
After trailwork:

Yeah, really wide but it's in-character with the adjacent trail sections. Well, should be good for few years…
On my way back, a rare sighting of an out-of-season Tarantula:

Domino Pond

Later, I came across a skunk on Coit Springs Trail @ 6:30pm. Can't remember seeing a skunk out before dark. As normal, it scurried along the trail ahead of me so I had to hang back until it finally veered off. I successfully avoided getting sprayed and got back to my car smelling sweet.
