My buds, Geoff and Caleb climbed Lurking Fear this week. It kicked their asses pretty much, but the Captain has a way of doing that. It had been 21 years since Geoff climbed El Cap.
On the hike out I explained to them both gently but firmly that they have cognitive development issues CDI.
I am very proud of them.
Had a great time with Aaron, Levi, And the other Aaron last Sat. when they crashed at our camp.
Will post some pics soon.

When did they finish?

Congratulations to them!

Caleb-"This last week will go down as one of the most punishing, yet rewarding experiences of my life. Climbing El Cap with one of my early climbing mentors, Geoff. While my other mentor, Jon went far beyond the call of duty to help with the staging and the support on the top, ( I mean who in their right mind hikes 16 miles to yell support from a far away cliff, and then does it again the next day with food and cold margaritas?)
I will always remember this weekend; and as my body recovers, I might even remember it fondly"
Brad, they topped out Saturday at noon. Caleb and I have very different interpretations as to what defines sanity.

Done! Oh there is the hike to get showers to do, but let's celebrate for an hour!

Video, edit; or not.

Makes me think of my trip up the LF. TFPU

I thought so; I took a shot of Ray at the same point on Lurking Fear - that traversing pitch - as you show in your first photo. Although the angle looks steeper in the shot that you posted. Here it is (although, sorry, I don't know how to post little micro-photos that make everyone think that the poster is mico-brained; I didn't just say that did I?):

Chuckles to self with absolutely no concept or appreciation of what this whole big wall thing is all about...

micro-brained, micro-beered or micro-brewed?

A younger, very strong climber recently moved into our neighborhood. He's a great guy (many of you have met him). Both Joel and I have been climbing with him a lot this summer. And he's the type of climber I really like to hang out with; he's got great ethics, a great sense of style and he enjoys climbing anything fun, from class four to 5.12.
I'm older and more experienced than him, but he is unquestionably stronger than me. We climb, communicate and hang out as equals. And yet the email he just sent me about Lurking Fear kinda blew me away (even though it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know mind you, it's just the totally factual way he meant it).
He and I were talking about how he'd spend one day, next Tuesday. One day.
I can't take Tuesday off to climb with him, so he was debating between doing bolt replacement up here, or climbing in Yosemite Valley. And he said: "I need to teach class at 5 PM in Columbia. The glory of doing a lap on Lurking Fear is that I know I can make it home in time."
Yeah, a mixed free and aid, Grade VI El Cap route. From here it's an hour and twenty minute drive each way. He's got one day.
I feel so weak and worthless. Damn kids these days.

Always someone stronger, faster, smarter...you get the picture...
If I get to climb with the "cool kids" I'm good.

Well WTF do you want me to do? I've been doing canoe lifts and slides for a month now. Isn't that a good enough start?
(Inside joke people.)
