Yesterday was my third anniversary of climbing at Pinns.
If you had told me what events it would set in motion when I stepped off the ground for my first lead 3 years ago, I would have never believed it.
I feel so lucky to have joined such a great group of people.
I want to say thanks to everyone who has shared a rope with me and welcomed me into the fold.
To think that I almost turned and walked away...
-
I'm glad.
I'm glad that you didn't walk away. I'm glad that you didn't give up on that first first ascent. And I'm glad that you gave up that free range vegan nonsense.
You've gotten a lot done in three years youngster.
-
Free range first ascenter!
That's a good name for a route. Write that down.

There was way too many white sheep dude, diversity was needed. ;D
If I remember right, you reintroduced me to Pinns exploring on an outing to Squareblock.
Glad to have you as a climbing partner and a friend.
-
JC and KC, congratulations on the three years. Quite glad you finished that lead. With that lead you started a fresh new passion and breathed a breath of fresh air into this forum and community.
Here's to sweat in your eye

All right, assuming that we're all resting until January 1st, it's time for "end of year totals" (for those of us who are obsessive enough to keep them that is).
J.C. has to be up to around 250 routes done at Pinnacles in good style now? What's the number John?
And, to add interest to the post, here he is putting in the sixth bolt on Mug Shot yesterday (he got the first lead):

This one includes another Master of Mud, an over 30 year veteran:

Cool location
-
Brad, if you do not mind me asking, how many routes are you up to?
-
The Muds did the FA on toprope at the last Masters of Mud get together in April. They found a nice line for sure.
They were kind enough to let us bolt it on lead.

Funny, I intend to post it up, but I'm still working on my end of year notes (they cover more than just Pinns, so they take a while) ;D
-
Cool, look forward to seeing what your up to.

Looks like Mug Shot put me at a nice round onsight number overall and 249 for Pinns done in good style.
Onsights redpoints
Pinnacles 237 12
Alabama Hills 85
Lover's Leap 8
SPH 63 5
Red Rocks 4
Castle Rock 3 1
ttl 400 18

Good numbers. An incredibly impressive three years at Pinns.
With your permission J.C., I would like to name the other route we started, the one left of the to-be-done- Nine Hundred for the Lead, Two Fifty Quick. ;)
(Maybe it should be Two Fifty Really, Really Quick.)
-
Here's one of J.C. drilling the last bolt on Agent Orange. Not a very good route, but a nice photo:

Thanks Brad. It's been a blast.
That name sounds good.
Will it have any effect on my percentage of the royalties?

Love it. Tricia is our new official photographer :)

I think you might have more on-sights than I do. Holy Sheep Dip.
-
You know Dennis, that brings up a good point. I know you don't keep very careful records, but what's your Pinns route count? Isn't it between 500 and 600 routes done in good style?
And Munge, I know you keep really meticulous records, but have you ever actually added up the number of Pinns routes you've done?
-
On the other thread I said, in part: "Other prerequisites including that I am still alive, not injured, and that I am able to walk climb and drill."
I wasn't being completely flip with this comment.
Since this is a thread about J.C., it seems like the best place to again thank K.C. for a helluva nice catch yesterday. I fell off Mug Shot in about the worst possible spot - just before the second bolt. I felt my left/then-only foothold blow off, realized that I had two large handholds to catch myself with, and then realized (a milli-second later) that both of those handholds were actually in my hands, flying with me. Three holds came off at once. That's a new one for me!
Kathy kept me off the deck in a tough situation. I think I outweigh her by 80 pounds. It was a close call.
I had a few abrasions, this was the worst:

Today that calf feels like someone slammed it with a baseball bat.
I immediately got back on and led the climb. I may have said a swear word or two.

Sounded like you were singing a hymn backwards.
Glad only the rock broke. How is the wrist?
-
JC, proud lead dude. I won't ever forget that one.
Nice to be climbing with Waldo again.
KC, nice catch and climb. Thanks for being part of the shenanigans. :)

Well, me and the Beatles, you know.
Wrist is 99% already today.
-
three holds, that is just fate saying; not this time.
Last I counted I was over 600. I do need to keep better records. There have been times after doing a route for a third time where I have made a determined effort to make sure I ticked the route off in the back of the book. Of course I do have some routes where if I go through older guidebooks there are well over a dozen tick marks from attempts.
-
My bath count for this year is around 400. 5 or 6 showers. Most were solos.
-
Wow, nice work JC... I agree with Mud: I think you have more Pinnacles onsights than I do. I was looking through the tick list of the book and realized I haven't done the vast majority of routes easier than 5.8!
Of course, I'm guessing I have more repeat redpoints of certain routes than most folks: I'm sure I've done Verdict and POD hundreds of times each, with other like Between A Rock And A Hard Place, Gladiator, Foreplay, Broken Arrow Direct, Her Comes The Judge, and Buffalo Soldier not far behind.
-
Last I counted I was over 600.
Remember the formula we talked about to get you over 900?
9-10 routes a weekend for a year straight....
-
I thought I was supposed to solo 30 routes every Saturday.
-
that was plan B
Plan A was for you go stay there Friday through Sunday and get 30 routes or so in.

Beats me.
