Title: IS IT RAINING?
Post by: beanolar on May 07, 2015, 12:28:06 PM
Anyone down at the pinns right now? Is it raining?

http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/radar.php?product=N1P&rid=MUX&loop=yes

Radar looks like it's similar to what we're getting up here in scruz. Maybe my plans to play hookey tomorrow will get rained out ;(

Glad it is raining, nonetheless...

Oh bummer - two sources called it at 80% chance of rain and into the night.  Sorry Charlie.

But - ya know...this little spit wouldn't stop The Cooks from going!   >:D

At least it'll be dry by Sunday!    ;D

Raining here in Sunnyvale.

But it never rains at the Pinnacles.

We're a long way from Pinns up here, but it is now snowing (not sticking though). March is finally here.

And this makes me believe that perhaps the Cooks are up here too (without dropping in to say hello!?). Those two have a unique ability to bring snow here when they visit. They've also been strangely quiet on this site for a while.

It's definitely raining. We received a good amount in Monterey today. Light but consistent. I suspect similar was seen out there. The winds look like they will be blowing pretty good and Sunday is looking like a stellar day for climbing. I'm trying to rope Gavin into climbing some Machete routes with me. Hoping to fill my last day as a 26 year old with some mud n crud.

Only .05" increase on the in park gauge so far - I suspect there will be more tonight.
Doesn't matter since I couldn't get anyone to commit to rebolting with me tomorrow.

You were going to re-bolt while you are up here?

I appreciate it Kyle.
Next Friday is a possibility.
I will have more free time when my day classes are over - after next week.

Looks like a whopping tenth of an inch - nothing since midnight.

Papers to grade today - climb with the kid and better half tomorrow - then place some shiny metal bits with nelkins Sunday :)

It did rain yesterday and last night... As JC said, "only" a tenth on an inch, but we'll take what we can get. I was up in the High Peaks while the rain came down, and we even had a bit of thunder and lightning. The temp only got up to 57 degrees yesterday!

Today the rain has passed, but the high temp is around 70 degrees at most. Not your typical May day here!

70 would be perfect! We are planning to go to the East side on Sunday.

I don't know a thing about bolting, but I know lots about free time during the week. Contact info is coming via pm (just in case you find yourself in a similar predicament again...)

Laura and I will be ticking stuff off our list on High Peaks Sunday.

Thanks for the info. Any recommends on 5.6-9 up in high peaks? Flatiron, abuela conchita, sponge, goat rock look good. I assume the finnies are still closed.

Ana recommended that I pack the hiking stick clip just in case.

I'll be around the Monolith for most of the day. Should hike up there around 9:30 or so. Come hang!

Yeah, Joe, come and crash the party!

Okay, we'll head over to the Monolith as well in the morning. Depending on what Mr. Mud's injured shoulder can take, we may migrate over to Discovery Wall later.

Looking forward to another day of awesome climbing!

I gave Crux love recommendations for you guys.  No stick clips allowed - just run it out to the first bolt.

Is that a cattle prod?

I'm a genius and forgot my harness and shoes. Luckily ranger Matt lent me his for $30 and 1000 yen. 5.6 feels stiff without climbing shoes...

No harness, no shoes, so Mr. Mud was my belay slave all day -- I got 8 routes in. Yet, when we were walking out, to my question "did you have a good day as well?" he answered without hesitation, "oh yeah!"

It was warm, but with a very pleasant breeze at the Monolith. After I swept all the routes except Tailspin on the S. face of the Monolith, we watched Kyqueener on Ubermensch before moving over to the Disovery Wall. We called the day early after Wet Kiss and Big Pucker. Nice to be able to get home in light, finish some yard work, and let the cats play outside for a while. A good day, indeed!

My attentive belayer. Notice the sling around the waist.

Kyqueener on Ubermensch. Happy Birthday!

Mr. Mud took this one. I really like it.

And the beer. You forgot the beer.

Indeed. Last night, when I saw that you were going to the Monolith, I said to Mr. Mud that it would be your birthday and we should bring you something since we were going to see you. He said, "a beer." He must have clipped it to his harness and shoes.  But, who am I to laugh -- I also prepared a little something for you. And when we got home, it was still sitting there on the counter.  :P
