Title: Looking for ez crags, no bugs. tips?
Post by: beanolar on June 24, 2015, 10:09:00 AM
Hello mountain people,

I'm looking for granite without mosquitoes for this weekend. Any tips? I heard from crux luv that it was buggy last weekend on sonora.. Any specific elevations?

It's the last weekend of freedom, before my dog goes in for knee surgery, so trying to make the most of  it!!!

BL

Crux was at high elevation so that's probably not going to make a difference.

Granite without mosquitoes? I'm not sure that is going to happen until later in the season? - load up on OFF or your favorite brand.

btw - Are you related to BLL?

BLL?

Off scares me. Mosquitoes disgust me. Maybe I should just give up and go to the mall ;)

Sometimes the mosquitos are elevation based - ie they hatch when the snow melts. And hopefully die ASAP after. So if she was high and there were bugs, maybe down lower they are already dead. Wishful thinking...

And Iiii know, no bugs at pinnacles. Just so darn hot! ;)

You signed BL...it's a mungie-based inside joke :)

If Brad were not on the trail he might suggest you go bowling :)

Believe it or not - there are actually some skeeters at Pinns.

You could try one of those sound devices for skeets - or Avon skin so soft/citronella - or just do long pants and shirt with bandana around your neck sprayed with repellent.

Chipmunk Flat area on the sunnyside rarely has skeets when in the sun.

Oddly, not very many skeets at Weeping Wall region either. But they are around.

Now that I think about it, not a single skeeter at Herring Dome.  At least not once you got there.  The gauntlet was while hiking along the river on the approach.

The bugs encountered at Green Acres were mostly concentrated at damp corners that had snow until very recently.

If I hear you shopped instead of climbed this weekend, we're through, Missy.

Donell Vista has a real short approach.

Fun Area up by the curves at Chipmunk.

Thanks! Donnell vista seemed too short (unless I missed something beyond the parkinglot?). Chipmunk looks interesting

Can u guys help me read the forecast? Is this the usual afternoon convection / thunderstorm deal? or am I in for a real good stormy time

Funkster slab (above a pullout!) and Eastbound wall look like good options.

Any idea if my 3 legged dog (she's avoiding that stupid knee) could hop up to Eastbound wall?
I realize how ridiculous this question/situation is ;)

Any other info appreciated!!!!

Work out with your Sonora guidebook at home. First warm up with a lighter Supertopo type guide, then curls, presses, and dead lifts with the Sonora, warm down with a Roper or Falcon Guide. No skeeters.

Don't forget the Pinnacles guide...heavy to.

I thought there was a requirement for Donnells....6 pack of Sierra Nevada.

Fresno Dome, if it isn't burning right now....

Actually, isn't smoke a natural repellent???

Looks like I got into this conversation a little late.

Did you end up climbing on Sonora Pass? If so, how did it go?
