The old one is worn out. Plan is to to be in use this Sunday on the mud, maybe a virgin summit.
-
Looks good! But will it bite?

Waldo, you helped make sure the old one wore out. Lately the top has been losing a layer of metal flaking off every couple of holes. I am afraid the transfer of impact is compromised and ponied up for the new one.
-
Why do you have to make everything sexual?
-
What will you do with the old one?
Become a pecromancer or pecrophiliac?
-
Clink, I think you should take the old one up some obscure pinnacle, start a hole and leave it there for future climbers to ponder. Instead of stonehenge, we'd then have stonepecker.
-
And the route name of the year goes to.......STONEPECKER!!!!!
-
Uh, Peckers are made by Black Diamond and go in aid seams.

Besides, 40 Hawks is the standardz!
-
Stonehawks does not work as well, but stonedhawks is not bad.

So it would seam, but I doubt there existence at Pinns.
-
Nothing seamy at Pinns!
-
What we need is a new program to find all the seams at Pinnacles!
I'll go first...
Left side of Disco wall has an aid line. It starts as a seam.
-
Never say Disco...
-
Never say Disco...
Never say never...
-
Well you could hang a disco ball from pecker in a seam in one of the roofs. That is if such a seam exists. Any route with a disco ball automatically gets 1.75 stars.

JC,
Nicely played.

When are you going to stop fooling around with inferior hand drilling technology and get a real drill holder?
The Merrick Bayonet is the only way to go.
The Merrick Bayonet + Dammer = 5 minute bolt placements

What kind of time if you also master swinging technique?

Or you use Mr. Annihilator and it's 1 minute.
Oh wait, I'm dreaming again.

I was talking to Tom Davis a couple weeks ago and he was explaining this drill holder that ratcheted, or something like that. It sounded bizarre and it mostly went over my head as to how it worked. I just nodded and said it made total sense to me, which it didn't. Anyways, it was a homemade sounding job that, as he claimed, would get a hole drilled in mere minutes.
Aaron, or anyone else, has Tom ever mentioned this dubious sounding master of all Pinnacles drill holders?

I've talked to him about it but have never seen it.
He evidently had someone weld a ratcheting box end wrench to his drill holder - or they fabricated a custom drill holder with the same rig to facilitate the turning process with more leverage. I recently used my small pair of vise grips clamped on the drill bit to make turning easier when I had a hole that was binding. The beauty of that method is it's removable.

Yes I have spoken with Tom about this contraption and I understand the premiss and his design. It doesn't really work for stance but if you are hooking and want to slam something in it would be great. I could fabricate Tom's design easily with my Merrick Bayonet. I would recommend getting a Merrick Bayonet for this, but sadly Mr. Merrick is no longer making the drill holders. It would be possible to make your own but you would need a machine shop.
