F4, any dates in mind for MOM? We talked about 2 sites possibly for this year although my daughter Rose and family may want an individual site close to the bathrooms with the baby. If my younger girls and friends come we would be around 8. Laura's friend Isabel has taken off since last year. I think she has climbed some outdoor 5.11 :o and is super stoked about climbing.
-
Larry said you have to reserve 6 months in advance.
I have heard several people express a desire for one of the group sites on the main level instead of down over the embankment like previous years. Sounds like your vote goes to that too clink. Those stairs and uneven trail down to the lower site are a pain.
-
Do you need some kind of elderly assisted lift?
-
Do you need some kind of elderly assisted lift?
Maybe just a belay.
-
Just to be clear, my reason for the seperate site was to create distance from a screaming descendant at 2 in the morning. I would stay with the group this year.
-
If El Nino keeps up, the same time as last year would work well this year since snow loads may prevent any granite access for quite awhile. Just sayin. :)
FWIW, I haven't seen anything from AAC emails about Pinns so far.

I've already consulted the Chance brothers with regard to the possibility of you attending a Pinnacles event.
I also checked the campground's availability for the nice sites at road level - 127 to 130 and they are all booked through April. I can look at it some more tomorrow while I listen to the rain and pine for choss ;D
-
been super busy
yeah, it needed to have been done in Nov.

How is this for irony? It is sunny and nice here and lightly raining at Pinns.
I just looked at the site and prowled sites 121 to 134 (all the group sites).
The weekend of April 1st has a couple sites but after that we are into May dates.
Should we do a Fool's Day weekend?
Suggestions? Holidays in May are Mother's Day and Memorial day.
Remove those and we have the weekend of the 14th and 21st.
If we wait very long I imagine all those weekends will be booked too.
-
book what ever you can. I will be surprised if I am around.

This comment really bugs me. Yes, I know you have a life outside of climbing. Yes, I understand that there are good, maybe even pressing reasons why you might leave this area.
But, perhaps for selfish reasons, I don't want you to go.
We've been climbing together since 1996. We've done crazy sh#t and routine climbs too. We haven't gotten in as much climbing together lately as we used to, but Pinnacles will not be the same climbing place if you're not part of it.
So I'm gonna make a formal motion to all of the Masters of Mud. Here it is:
If Mud leaves the area, I move that we:
1. All take a specific block of time off each Pinnacles season to go to Pinnacles to meet DES and climb there with him; and
2. All help pay his transportation costs to get there (in other words, fly his skinny little ass down to make sure he shows).
Who else is in?
-
I really appreciate the kind words. However, you might want to wait and find out where I end up.

Aye, motion for.
Or we all fly to up and climb PNW choss together? :)

Nah, not unless you're leaving planet earth. I'd help fly you to Pinns for a week from deepest darkest Russia (if that's what it took).
-
I'm in.
Oh and by the way, if Kat and I win Powerball, I'll set up a retirement fund for him so he can stay.
I'll also buy a house in Soledad and a ranch on the east side where all of us can stay nearby anytime for free.
Then I'm going to follow mungie around and buy up any crags he's looking at so he has to come back to Pinns ;D

BTW, can I win if I don't play?
-
Mr Mud, don't give in to the corp desires (their desires).
Stay here in sunny California.
-
I went ahead and reserved sites 12, 13 and 14 for the weekend of April 15th.
They allow 6 people to a site.
All the group sites were reserved and the max there was only 20.
Chime in and let us know if you're planning to attend.
If we need more sites there are more available but I have no idea for how long.

Those are really excellent choices!
We're in for 4 to 6 people.
-
I'll plan on being in for the weekend. Not sure how many will be with me, so I booked site #9 for some extra space.
-
6&7 are booked. Drop the taxes in the mail and go camping. If it sounds like a baby is crying at night, don't worry, it is only one of the adult climbers lamenting over the line I found first.
JC, I will pass on the dates to Caleb, Geoff and Jeremy.
-
Do you need some kind of elderly assisted lift?
Missed that, ;D
-
Do you need some kind of elderly assisted lift?
Piggy-back from Brad will do.
-
don't worry, it is only one of the adult climbers lamenting over the line I found first.
You may have found it but I already bolted it.
: )
-
Okay I see 6,7 and 9 plus the three I booked. That's 6x6=36.
I imagine that will be more than enough space - of course clink's clan may take up half of that
AND we might need a boxing or wrestling space.
Should we take some stakes to have a hammer toss in lieu of horseshoes?
-
6&7 are booked...
I took this post to mean that they were already taken and that you couldn't get them. J.C. seems to think that you got them.
Did you actually get them? If so then I think we're in perfect shape for a great MoM.
Now for the weather....
-
This is uncanny.
I just checked the camping reservations page and every site in Loop A is reserved except site 8.
Have our people booked the other sites or is this just a bizarre co-ink-ee-dink?
-
Should we take some stakes and a hammer?
We need to do this as they come out at night, correct?
-
I reserved 6&7. Caleb may have booked a trailer site.
-
We need to do this as they come out at night, correct?
Yes! I can also bring my pointy-ended hammer in case there are walkers :o
Now I just want to know who are the marauders at Loop A?
-
The Upper Crust
-
Will try and make it but can't say not knowing.
-
Marauder.... Upper Crust. Seriously know one got that?
-
Marauder.... Upper Crust. Seriously know one got that?
Marauder, you mean like the route up at Marmot Rock?
-
:o
-
I thought you were just being snooty. ;)
-
That goes without saying

Dang calendaring...Phil and I will have to be tentative until I know my level of responsibility for the schools MTB team at Sea Otter Classic.
-
I've got a lot going on in April, but I think I'm good.
-
Dang calendaring...Phil and I will have to be tentative until I know my level of responsibility for the schools MTB team at Sea Otter Classic.
I'll bet that a Sea Otter Classic could be done at Pinnacles, right?
Well, why not?

And all of us agree.

Best to check with my wife on that one.

Let's see if we can convince Gavin. ;)

How many times does a Pinnacles climber laugh at a joke?

How many times does a Pinnacles climber laugh at a joke?
s.t.o.p. at a green light?
-
How many times does a Pinnacles climber laugh at a joke?
Is this a riddle or another bad joke - like the "season" so far?
I could get this crap back east - sun shines all week and then weather turns to shite on the weekend.
I moved out here to get away from that crap - well that and sports fans :o
-
How many times does a Pinnacles climber laugh at a joke?
Three times:
- Once when he hears it;
- Once when he tells it;
- And then when he gets it.
And knock off the bitter old climber crap. It's been a great season so far even if that's all we're gonna get. And it doesn't look like this is all the clear and warm weather for the season. Although that does remind of another old joke:
What does a climber call the first clear day after days of rain?
-
And knock off the bitter old climber crap.
What does a climber call the first clear day after days of rain?
Have you met me?
Bitter Monday.
-
What does a climber call the first clear day after days of rain?
A day off work?
Sick day?
-
monday
-
Three times:
- Once when he hears it;
- Once when he tells it;
- And then when he gets it.
This makes no sense. How can you laugh at it twice before you get it?
Am I missing something?
-
Am I missing something?
Probably.
Home-made chicken and sweet potato soup with buttered bread and a huge glass of Sierra Nevada (tap water that is - the best).
All served with love and affection and eaten while holes are drilled into me by the four eyes of the two most beautiful canines in the world.
Yeah, I'd say you're missing something quite extraordinary. But you've got it just as good at your house too. Or come on up; as you know, you're welcome any time (snow promised for the morning).
-
Good day to look at waterfalls tomorrow - it just dumped half an inch in two hours!
-
pics or it didn't waterfall.
-
Looks like the AAC will combine with us again this year. :D
They have nearby sites 25, 26 and 28.
-
So what's the deal with this?
I'm hoping to come to this event but I lazily scrolled up a bit and didn't see the dates
I moved out of my house in Bishop and into my car. Now I have the next two months free and there is going to be some pinnacles in there somewhere. I'm starting down the AMGA Mountain Guide path at Smith Rocks in May so I figure The Pinns could be good training since I have to be able to lead 5.9 confidently at that time...
Hope to see you all soon if I m still welcome...

Adam - clink also has a couple sites and so does the AAC.
-
Adam, it's from Friday, April 15th through Sunday, April 17th (camping two nights).
We're trying something new this year - a series of adjacent "normal" campsites instead of the group camp that is down off the embankment.
I think we'll have plenty of room for people, but cars may be an issue (only two allowed per site). Overflow parking isn't too far away though if we've got to use it.
I hope you're back up to "5.9" by then ::)
-

Won't it be warm?
Nice place to have to go to school.

Doesn't look like Rose can get the time off and Laura started full time at the Corralitos Sausage Market. I still have to find out if she gets a discount. So there is extra room.
Waldo, are you making it?
-
for 2.5 Clink?
-
Cool! Thanks for posting up. Ill be there if I can... prepared to bivy and walk in if necessary.
-
Dang - we're officially out and will miss all you dirt bags.
-
Won't it be warm?
Nice place to have to go to school.
Not sure about how warm it gets there. I think they are training us to do all routes onsight in all conditions...
I think i'll be at the MOM weekend.
I know for sure that I will be arriving in SC today or tommrow. My parents are selling there house and moving elsewhere so we are having a farewell gathering. Its making me sad... I guess ill be bidding Pinnacles farewell too.... Well maybe not.
So I will be trying to climb at the Pinns/ and or the valley during the next few weeks. I havent climbed in months. Just out from an epic nine-days of Powder trip to Tuoulumne Meadows. Ready for a change of place and to put the skis aside for a few moments.
-
Life changing events. Will be good to see you there.

I think the spot location for the weather forecast posted is a bit off; try this instead:
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=36.47075&lon=-121.147278#.VwxCyPkrJD9
The high temps look like they will be closer to 70 degrees (Friday), 79 degrees (Saturday), and 86 degrees (Sunday). It's heating up!
P.S. I could get out climbing on Friday if anyone will be here then for the day.

-

F4, room for 9. I may be climbing late Friday so set up and park wherever you like in site 6 or 7.
-
Just paid for my AAC food.
But now I can't climb (shoulder), or work for that matter.
Which day is mi amigos working on something fun? If I come down I need to be able to heckle!
-
Unfortunately, I am down at Laguna Seca for the Sea Otter Classic on MoM weekend emceeing Bicycling Magazine's Editors Choice Awards among other things. I hope everyone has a great time!
-
Just to reiterate/consolidate info as we get closer.
clink has 6 and 7. I have 12, 13 , 14 and the AAC has 25, 26 and 28.

Thx JC.
Any firm project locations? Should I email to sync up?

Sure we can rap-bolt Mucci's project.
You in?
-
if down there, i'll have james and be taking him climbing.
That and redpointing WetKiss if I feel lucky.
-
I just dropped a SOB potted prickly cactus on my toe.
I was just saying "I hate u SO much" as I hurled it into the trash. It retaliated by beaning the tip of my toe.
Thus bringing the Pinns climber foot casualty count to three
WATCH YER FEET, people!!!!!!

it was such a prick

Definitely! That shiz is getting the ladder! But we got to get up early yo! Get there before Gavin gets an honest shot at it. >:D

Bummer Munge. What happened?
Aaron, bit of a saga. After Atlantis wall on the road trip to WY, my shoulder gave out. Doc said classic rotator cuff with bursitis. Stayed off, followed docs orders and got normal existence back/without pain, but when I climbed a couple weeks ago in the gym, certain movements would cause immediate inflammation and pain. Also, certain sleeping positions. I went back in this week. Treated it and can't climb for 5 days. Then only no-pain exercises (read slab climbing) after that for a couple more weeks.
Need to be ready for more Titantic shuffle board this year!
-

The super special area? The one where we hope to put up a route that Joe can't onsight? I had to give Brad a 45 minute massage and provide the oil just to get a compass heading from the reservoir dam.
Munge, we are in desperate need to have someone, other than myself, who can actually rate climbs climbing.
-
Anyone climbing at a civilized hour on Friday?
Anyone climbing with kids on Saturday?
-

5.7
Actually, I called it 5.8.
-

J.C. and I are climbing all day on stuff that would interest you.
From what I know, climbing with kids on Saturday looks unlikely at this point; I think there are plans to continue ongoing projects at two previously unclimbed crags.
-
yes, climbing w kids Saturday afternoon and Sunday all day.....I'll be biking down and Dani and Zachery (9 y/o) will be meeting me after z's lacrosse game, so around 1-ish Saturday, putting up kid routes and Sunday we'll be joining the Alex Dawson and his 'rental units for a full day of climbs kids can get up....
any rhyme or reason to the camping organization? we need a parking spot close to a tent spot so z won't be too far away from mom....
-

I rate climbs like a champ from behind my Limes!! You've come to the right guy!
In other news, I'll be selling copies from newly printed "Climbing Choss" for Dummies...

pretty funny!
I need to get Friday off...if not sat for sure.
Oh and Joe..you don't have to bike to the Pinns, you can drive. It's much faster.
;D

Now THAT is funny dude. Breccia is spelled wrong - at least I have never seen it spelled that way :-\

That sounds great. Where/when are you meeting? Better yet, where do I find you once I spend my morning getting children sorted to school and what not?

Sounds awesome, but I gotta get kids to Sea Otter on Sunday, think next year will need to be the one I unleash my children on the group.
-

I'd guess that we'll be near The Yaks by the time you might get there (The Yaks themselves, not the Wall). We're going to try to do both of the Clint/Bruce "Escape" routes so I can get them documented and on the site.
Would you be OK hiking up to where we all climbed last year (Wizards) and starting to look for us from there?
-
Oh, and I'll put it out there in case he's too humble to do so: campsites aren't free. J.C. has already put out over $150.00 to pay for three sites for two nights. Does it seem fair and appropriate for people who stay to help make up that amount?
I think Clink paid for two or three sites too.
-

That's good with me... I hope to make it to the lot around 10AM or so. Once I make it to the base of wizards, which way do I look?
[Edited] looks like I can read a map after all! I'll start at wizards and work my way over to the yaks.
-
Gavin. Caleb is bringing his boys. Change of meeting time to 8am. Mj you can join us as well.
-
So which campsite should I crash? I'll be down saturday evening and sunday.
Cant currently raise my arm (tetanus shot) or stuff my foot in a shoe.
So will be there for entertainment purposes only.
Will chip in for whatevs. Can I pay in bolts???

You can absolutely pay in bolts as long as they are of sufficient length and quality :P ;D ;)
-
I've got site #9 reserved for Friday and Saturday night, but only using it for Friday night. I'm the only one using the site so far, there should be plenty of space to share if you need it.
-
Sounds good. I got a gimpy foot. Can I volunteer myself for a parking spot? :)
Extra bolts

We'll figure out a way to make it work and take care of you. ;D

Excellent. Looks warm at pinns this weekend. I'll bring in a bunch of ice cream saturday evening. ;) see u's then!!
-
We are likely Saturday am.
I can jump MJ's site....
-
I am bringing some wood. Carrie and Rachel are coming Sat. S'more time :)
-
I won't make it out until Saturday. I'll just poke around until I hear a hammer or two. Are most eating with the ACC?
-
Does look warm. I'm probably not staying overnight.
-

Probably be folks spread far and wide. Ask around. May or may not be hammers swinging. ;D
-
I won't be able to bump this info to the front of the thread after tonight, so if someone wants to quote it each day as we progress through the weekend for any late comers it would be much appreciated.
Just to reiterate/consolidate info as we get closer.
clink reserved sites 6 and 7. I reserved 12, 13 , 14 and the AAC reserved 25, 26 and 28.
mj has site 9 reserved for Friday and Saturday but will only be using it Friday night.
Sites were $23 each and are designed to accommodate 6 people each.
If we round up to $24 to make the math easy that is $4 per person per night.
It might be easier to make change if we do $5 and we could use the extra few bucks for firewood if we need it.
Parking is liable to be an issue so be prepared to drop your stuff off and take your vehicle to overflow.
If NOAL is coming he should be available for piggy back rides from overflow - clink has volunteered too :o ??? >:D ;D
Sounds like we are going to have a good group and a lot of fun ;D
-
How is campsite capacity looking? Do we need more people? I can ask around
-
Hope everyone had a good weekend. Flew in Saturday after being in Wa for three weeks for work. Made it down Sunday with Noal. Left a bit early since I was super hungry and thirsty. The left hand water chute is turning out harder than it looked. Scored a booty quick draw off of cutting the rug. The service at the 19th hole has gotten real bad, most likely will not go back.
Here's to sweat in your eye
-
Hope everyone had a good weekend.
It was great to see all the folks who made it and missed those who could not. Good knob sling'n on a couple new routes and loads of fun climbing at Deep Groove and the Old Dude. Hearing Alex's ideas about designing rope out of fishing line was particularly enjoyable.
-
With the "National Park" in monumental overload fashion, my tactics are going to have to change in the mornings. Holy sheep flock, the rangers must feel like wranglers or freak'n zookeepers. They are going to need to move the kiosk to one of the turn arounds and have a parking or shuttle pass system for sending vehicles up the road once the spaces fill up. Does anyone know why the spur past the bathrooms where Mud parks isn't being made use of?
We saw and eventually passed what must be the largest group ever to be out on the trail. The beauty of these outlying climbing areas is becoming dearer by the day.
-
The parking lots were mostly empty when we showed and mostly empty when we left. I thought it was a slow day. : )

I approached from the South Side of the reservoir then cut back right toward the 'inlet' when you go uphill at the big rock, which is not the way to go out to Maniac's and Nit Wit.
Best to go up by the big rock, continue upstream on the old road, then cut back right up to Flue Fire etc. and up over the ridge. Or, just approach from the North Side of the reservoir. Curious to see how long it took Brad and Co to get back to the car, going by way of the Anvil.

How were people with multiple "individual" sites instead of one group site?
I felt like it was a better arrangement; next year we'll perhaps try to serve that entire first loop. I've never liked those group sites where you've got to move up and down the embankment into the "bottomlands."
-
I think that we should all do an FA with beanolar. We'll call the route "Infectious Laugh."
Am I the only one who can't help but smile (or laugh myself) when I hear her laugh?

You will also have to put one up for her partner in crime and call it The Instigator .

Munge, I was contemplating how much of my vast knowledge to divulge.

Last summer we had been approaching by crossing the res earlier and following a social trail along the edge of the water - that was when the water was much lower. We followed up the dry tributary from there to Maniac's and then up the hill to the Knee. I could not see that shore trail this weekend. Also not sure how overgrown the long grass has become along that tributary and Noal said he's seen rattlers along that stretch - great place to hide and you're squeezed into a deep, narrow trench - gnaaaa! You could take the hillside trail past the Watchmen to get there too but I try to avoid that trail!
I actually enjoy going out along the CCC grade and then cutting up the ridge across from Chimney Sweep/Flue Fire
Brad said they got back about 20 minutes ahead of us but we got stuck by "traffic" at the steps down from the res and then stopped again at the Monolith to gab and pick up Amber - so we were not making good time. We were also going slower because Rosie was with us and we were making sure she was doing okay. I doubt what they did was any faster.
Nice shot of Larry following me on Nit-Wit by the way - I bet he would enjoy seeing that ;D

It was great to see all the folks who made it and missed those who could not. Good knob sling'n on a couple new routes and loads of fun climbing at Deep Groove and the Old Dude. Hearing Alex's ideas about designing rope out of fishing line was particularly enjoyable.
Agreed. It was a blast. I got to do one horrible route, some not so bad routes, a fun new FA and two older routes I had been putting off - plus See Alice Pinnacle is now a reality.
I was a little despondent after having one of my found/new routes rejected by the emperor but I have a good shot of him climbing it and he did agree that the move(s) were 5.4 - besides - two out of three pinnacles ain't bad ;D
Aaron and I had quite the adventure seeing two rattlers while hiking to and from See Alice. It may have been the same one but the second location was quite a distance from the initial encounter. Whether it was the same one or two different ones it/they was/were coiled and rattling loud and long!
I had a great time hanging with everybody and actually had a hard time driving back into more civilized digs. Maybe I was meant to be a dirt bag? NOT! ;D :D :o
Yesterday we marched over the blazing saddle and way too far down - to bag obscurity - and then I managed to avoid another encounter with the humping lizards and merely watched and took photos from a distance of those less fortunate. Julius got to end his day on some chunky goodness 8)

Except that, because of your work schedule, we missed you there. So, good times minus one.

Well I did get to root around in the mud and crud on Sunday. I had choss everywhere by the end of the day. Did miss the festivities. Will try and make it next time.

Temp was 92 at 2:30 yesterday - felt hotter in the sun.
We think Kat's illin' Saturday night may have been sun poisoning.
Forecast for Friday is horseshit - last time they called 60% it dropped .01 and I sat out all weekend watching the gauges.
That is NOT happening again.
This is for you clink :-*
