Title: Lounging
Post by: clink on May 08, 2016, 07:45:07 AM

Yesterday was a rainy gym day. I met Aaron and Geoff at Pac Edge to run up a half dozen topropes routes. any resonable person will agree that a gym is the only place that should have named, rated and manufacturer credited toprope routes. The beauty of these is that they are removed and forgotten every few months.

Aaron was fresh back from doing the Prow with Levi and Geoff was back from a couple months off with no good excuse. The comparing of notes between them, as Geoff and Caleb had also done the Prow somewhat recently, made for enjoyable listening on my part. We continued the conversation at the new East Cliff Brewing Co. in their comfy lounge chairs, sampling rye ale, ESB and IPA.

I noted that Caleb's training consists mostly of the couch and alcohol portion of our day with little to none actual climbing and wondered how he performs at the level he does by mostly dreaming about it.

It was a great thing to be chilling with close friends, in the middle of a day, with no place we had to be. I am looking foreword to spending more time with the bunch of all you Mudsters.

It hasn't rained at Pinns since a brief shower of 1/3 of an inch on Thursday afternoon.

I am looking forward to spending more time with all you Mudsters.

Agreed. We did a modified version of lounging today with beanolar.

We spent the morning cooking up various dishes in Granny's Kitchen and then played a bit more at The Old Man  ;D

Saturday seemed like a day in suspension. Teaching Rachel to drive stick shift and taking Laura to look at cats on Sunday,  not so much :)

I disagree.  There are many good TR's in the Pins.

Park gauge showed 91 at 3:30 and already 80 by 11:30 - in other words - too hot for "it" boys aka SOS's

Nice in the shade but a little bit toasty in the sun. We waited for Auto Cream to get in the shade.

Did you guys know there is a Darth Tater?

Yes too hot for those of us who are not "one trick ponies." Even those of us with cut off jean short shorts who's heads and bodies somehow don't align.

But I'm glad you two got out and had fun.

And by the way, it's "SOSs" in that context; no apostrophe.

What's it stand for anyway? I know you're dying to spout it out?

-  Sweet Outsider Standouts?

-  Sensationally Organized Super-climbers?

-  Skilled On Several [Types of Rock]?

One trick is all that horse will do.

Sonoran Opinionated Snobs. The SOS(who really need help but don't know it) or BAPs, all the same from up and over there.

It depends entirely on their attitude. In the case of several Scruz posters here, yes, definitely BAPs.

Isn't Twain Hart a subdivision of Sonora?

Yeah; just like Santa Cruz is a subdivision of San Jose.

We didn't climb today, but Tricia and I definitely weren't lounging.

We spent the morning in San Rafael. Tricia was one of 49 contestants in the California State Spelling Bee. Yeah, one of 49 kids in the whole state who qualified:

While Tricia cooly spelled word after word, I got sweaty palms (if I'd been a contestant, I may have come in last - some of the words were hard!). Eventually the words got even harder (as in multi-syllable words I'd never heard of). Kid after kid misspelled enough words to be out of the contest. Finally Tricia missed a word. But by then 23 kids were out. Then 25 were out.

Finally, long, long after I would have been booted, she was out. She placed 18th out of 49. But really she placed 18th out of thousands.

Nice result, huh? It's an achievement that might make a wise person hesitant to engage her in spelling games like Bananagrams  ::)  :P

Now a normal dad might have rewarded such an accomplishment right? Good, good answer. Yeah, I did reward her. Since one way of coming home might take us past Mount Diablo, a drive-to-the-summit county high point that Tricia hadn't done, I rewarded her with a summit offer. Even though I'd bagged this summit myself before, we drove there again today (she was actually pretty thrilled to get another high point done!). And it's a weird highpoint. An observation deck was built of top of this peak back in the 1930s; they left the actual high point itself exposed, but it's exposed within a building! Weird:

The views from the observation deck were good too (it wasn't all that clear, but it wasn't bad):

And, finally, keeping her favorite geologist in mind, Tricia took these photos of the structure's actual building blocks (made from stone found there on Mount Diablo):

All in all an excellent day  ;)

Sorry, I can't quite stop thinking that "fossiliferous greywacke" has to be a self description. It just, just sounds like you.

I can picture it now on a crag of honor; a route named for J.C. right next to a route named for Dennis himself: "Fossiliferous greywacke" and "Senor Bentonite."
