That rock looks ridiculously solid and featured.
How can you climb such crap?

Great day on the crud today - I drilled 6 bolts - you missed out bubba  :yesnod: :ihih:

cool. Looks a little Gianelli-ish, except for the fractures.

Have I climbed there before?

Enormous and Powerful seems to be descriptive of our ability to consume delicious edible plants and animals.

Um, how about a few details for those of us who aren't part of the "in crowd" and have no idea what you're up to where.

Geoff commenting on yesterday "F'ng Gandalf goes up and works his magic then comes back to his walking stick. "

It was great to climb with Jim and hang out that evening with Wendy and Jamie on their deck, what a view! We feasted on a Salmon dinner and spread, thanks for the hosptaliy!

Nice dikes.
Horshoe Lake - I use that in lecture to talk about CO2 poisoning from Mammoth Mtn.
That place is a gas for climbing too  :ihih:

thx, when you getting some granite?
Title: Re: The Enormously Powerful Expidition
Post by: NOAL on August 16, 2016, 05:22:16 PM
There's pieces of granite mixed in here and there at pinnacles. Otherwise, granite? Pfft.

Crowds and hordes and rangers and rules and hassles. Pfft.

Granite without those things is great (although, obviously, not as great as Pinns).

Yep. Although Clink and Geoff do appear to be having quite a nice time on that granite stuff. Why are the photos so tiny and why do I have to log in to see them? Weird. ;)

It's because Clink is a stubborn, dinosaur of an old-fart codger.

He tremulously figured out how to post photos two years ago. It's the wrong way - no-one can see them adequately. J.C. in particular tried to help him fix this. But even J.C., who regularly works with rocks, couldn't get through to Clink.

God help him, he knows not what he does (love you Jon - mean it!).

Almost just like the Pinnacles.  There's solid rock and choss rock (but lots more of both).  As long everyone is having fun it's good stuff.  It was great climbing with Jon and Geoff.

Day four. Pre-breakfast dikes. Beer for  breakfast at 11.

Franken Cookie Munster, Horseshoe area is fun.

Sorry Noal for the ineptitudalidge with the pics.

Brad, I love you and Mr. Mud too. Looking forward to an unplanned bivouc, I call middle. Speaking of which, Noal looks cuddly like a koala bear.  Mud kept him to himself through the bitter cold winter climbs.

Last nights dinner rocked.

A pic of rock for JC and Munge.

Let me guess. Chili verde enchilada smothered in bean slop and rice? Yum! :yesnod:

Thanks for the crud. Looks like weathered slate. You should boulder up a bit and test it out

It is nice to be home!

On the drive up, Jon Miller was describing the swing of a slugger from the team opposing the Giant as enormous and powerful. He struck out. Thankfully we didn't.

Geoff and I getting to go up early to acclimatize was key and the day of climbing with Jim at Patricia Bowl was a game changer.
The 3rd Pillar was out of our paygrade. Aaron and Caleb were our ropeguns and did a fantastic job. A beautiful route.

Glad you guys had a fun trip and everyone is home safe.

That one picture in the chimney with the big slivers of rock wedged in below will be a nice place for skeletons to collect over the years or with the next exfoliation event that happens while someone is on the route.  :ihih:

BTW Geoff got the news of the arrival his first grandchild, Naomi and Mike have a daughter! We were pulling into the Mobile at Lee Vining when he got the message from New Zealand. She will have dual citizenship, cool.

What a great thing for Geoff, as he has looked like a grandpa for the last fifteen or years.
