Title: Route Potential
Post by: beanolar on March 30, 2017, 09:53:50 AM
The acropolis is a huge pile of choss. You guys would love it -

Check out the bolts

I know some of you would like to test this lodestone. Whatdya think, 5.6???

And even though I KNOW this breaks your ethics, they did put up some pretty sweet corners

5.8??

Sadly, most of it crumbled in your hand. No wonder they got invaded so much. Especially with this stupid 4th class approach on the other side

I mean, what Roman, Turk, or Venetian couldn't just walk that up, regardless of how much olive oil or greasy kebab lard was on their fingers - for shame!

Luckily, the entire country was not a choss pile. We lucked out and stumbled across this waterside gem - A 6b (??) route called "Super Laura" of all things

They paint the route names right on the rock!! And had weird maybe-ok hanger lookin bolts, spaced 4-5' apart --- good enough for me!!!

beano - Thanks for breaking things up with your most excellent humor

Jesse showed me a pic of one of the bolts - definitely a glue-in.

The geology is pretty cool. Lots of old seafloor pushed up during mountain building events - then faulting produced basins that filled in with more recent seafloor sediments - including economically important clay deposits. Eventually the whole mess was pushed up again (above sea level) by tectonic uplift.

Here's a map and cross section although no one may give a schist

Interesting how the Parthenon sits atop an ancient fault and straddles the contact between older limestones and younger sedimentary rocks.
I also like the retaining walls shown on the cross section that buttress the artificial fill (landfill).
