Let's have it out....which side is the best...
Eastside,
Pro-has a pool and a store with essentials (beer and ice cream), has such wonderful 5.8's like Ordeal and WetKiss.
Con- Can be cold. Parking can be a pain. Home to loose climbs like Carpet Cleaner.
Westside,
Pro- Inn at the Pinnacles near by with wine and cheese. Has great climbs like Lava Falls, Shake N Bake and an amazing route Los Banditos up MuchShitty Ridge.
Con- have to drive down 101 past Salinas. Some of the rock can be suspect. A bunch of birds do tend to roost on the climbs during certain times of the year.
Post away..

Planning on working a new route at Pinns?

Still a few good lines to do...

and then you got the high peaks, neither east or west.

So true Noal, so true!
The only debate is from which side you have to approach from.
I just wish we could stash a cooler up there....

I like the approach to the High Peaks better from the west side.
Cooler up the canyon on hotter days and lots of cool climbs along the way too.
I always tell people if they like drive up movie screens - the west is the best.
The drive along 25 is better than 101 - and they already got rid of the new Pinnacles billboard past the prison!
The west side has In and Out on the way home.
The west side has some cool secrets.
Lately we've been in Outer Zimbabwe and unfortunately it is easier to hike the miles in from the east side.
I like to mix it up but I think I have a fondness for the west side.

Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,

I've had people fooled into thinking I know stuff for almost 20 years
Guidebook authors are like Kings. Kings sitting in their castles...deciding important things...deciding the fates of others...
Off with his head

There is an in and out in gilroy.
My problem with the WestSide is I am used to driving to Santa Barbra.
So when I get to Soledad, I have an urge to keep driving.
The bonus to the WestSide is the new visitor center.....bathroom.

east side.
Really though, east, west,or high peaks? Why choose? Stay on the move and enjoy all in one day!
-
Yeah, eastside.
Odd, that Mungie has not yet voiced his opinion.

Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God's great Judgment seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When two strong men stand face to face, though they come from the ends of the earth!
Did old Kipling have Clink and JC in mind?

East side has better pizza, but cold winters.
West side has baywatch and tupac.
I prefer to live in the west, and visit the east, but only in fair weather.
Winter coats r for chumps!!!!!

Yeah, my sunsets have to be over the ocean...none of that over land shit.
Still Eastside, you have Disco wall. Everybody likes Disco wall.
Still no Mungie??

For the record, I generally avoid standing face to face with any man, strong or not so much.

True, FaceTime is for grandkids when you can't get over to see them.

Have had a nice review of the classic lines on East vs. West in discussing a new-comer to Pinnacle's interest.
Which to take them to first?
Which is a different kind of question.
The point of the routes to first introduce someone is to appeal to them those qualities they would like the most.
In this case, Gomz has newly acquired a guidebook and I thought two things: 1) he likes quality rock and 2) he likes tall rock. Neither of which are in abundance at Pinnacles.
So I split the baby with the bath water and am recommending 1 day in each, but starting with East Side only because it has more routes that are cleaner.
In my own personal likes and dislikes, I've probably had more better days on the West and High Pikes than days I've had at East Side. Lack of climbers on the West. FA ops on the West. Camping, in the old days, on the West. Tall rocks on the West.
East has hard stone and many things to test oneself on, but it just doesn't have the character of the West. Walking in to the East is like walking into Joshua Tree. Walking into the West is like walking into Yosemite Valley.

East vs West, I do not know. I have spent more time on the East but primarily that is because there are more hard routes. It is a dilemma since just about everywhere I look I see possibilities for hard routes. I just want to claw my way up the hardest thing that I can.
