How about using your new account some day to restore your excellent Conditioning Tour trip report?

I don't have a photo storage solution established yet... linked this from the web. Anyone have some suggestions for free photo storage?

I've used Flickr for 12 years or so now. It's free up to a certain number of photos, maybe 1,000 or some such number (which I've exceeded - I think I pay $28.00 per year or so now). It's worked well.
I think that J.C. moved to Flickr too (after Photofucket burned him).
-
I use smugmug and Flickr
I pay for smugmug.

Forum echo test... echo test... test.

Brad, Flickr's free option includes one terabyte of storage limited to 200 MB per photo and 1 GB per video with maximum length 3 minutes.
However, I haven't really noticed much degradation of image quality due to 200mb size limit.
One terabyte of data at ~500k per image will hold ~2 million pictures.
So you may be overpaying if you're just embedding.

Yup, I use flikr as well

I think I just heard a Pinn drop.
Temps look better for the coming weekend and maybe even into next week.
Speaking of Flikr - I got back online after the weekend only to find out they got acquired by Smugmug.
From what I can find online they are supposedly at least thinking about keeping a free option for a while, so they don't lose the Flikr base. Now go watch an episode of Silicon Valley

Very nice

And some of us get home from the PCT and are immediately expected to go do FAs on granite....
-
hate it when that happens

Hurts, really hurts.

Yes to that.

You know, that around these parts, "charging your batteries" is only a metaphor.

We offered to let him sit idly by while we climbed all the newly established routes we were passing on the way in. :nonod: :ihih:
I played chicken-$hit most of the day on Sunday, climbing some really easy stuff to get in the correct mode.
Then yesterday I had to suffer through putting up an incredibly delicious route in less time than it would have taken me to drill two bolts by hand :yesnod: :out: :prrr: :ciappa:
-
We offered to let him sit idly by...
Because I'm so good at sitting idly by.... I am enjoying a nice day at work today though.
And Holey Moley is spelled correctly ;)

Not this time my friend. Besides...we weren't in these parts :prrr: :out: :ciappa:

As much as I enjoy the adventure, hard work, and sense of accomplishment establishing a route by hand drilling at Pinns.....man it is freaking nice getting a route or more done in a day with a Bosch. :yesnod: :aureola:
How did Holey Moley turn out?
-
...How did Holey Moley turn out?
I gave it 5.5 ** and I think J.C. and K.C. agreed. I'll make you a deal: you climb it this weekend and tell me what you think, and I'll climb Happy Ending, add the bolt, and tell you what I think?
You should climb Green Dream too. It turned out to be three stars and 5.10a.
-
Sounds good to me ;D

Ya'll must be climbing and not on the forum...
They are but we are not.
No motivation in this heat.
We took long walks on the beach the last 2 days.
I'll be headed up Brad's way this week.

We took long walks on the beach the last 2 days. Thumb Up Dude Big Grin
I took a long walk away from the beach. this afternoon, which means two baths today.

Woooohooooooo!!! :)

I hiked from Aptos Village(2:40) to home (8:15). Thought about the cool climbing done with ya'll over the years.
Hey people, ever considered a conceal and carry for solo excursions?
Climbing with JC it's not an issue because I always assumed to a big cat he would be the one that looked bacon flavored of the two of us. How is that shoulder doing?
-
Nice Clink!!
I always wanted them snake gaters when going through the grass.
-
Never considered. Have been traipsing through the woods since I was knee high to a toadstool.

You know there is service where a driver picks you up and drops you off at your home.
-
Yes, but I am trying to avoid the service where a dispatch is sent to my house for pick up and delivery to the hospital.
-
Wise man!

That is not a hike - it is a trek :yesnod:
I've considered it many times but resist the urge.
The big cat just depends on which one of us can run the fastest the longest. :ihih:

The forum is suspiciously quiet.
If I continue to remain absent from Pinnacles, will the rocks eventually resent me?
I'm hoping to restart answering the call again soon.
I haven't been down there since June 29th.
I haven't climbed anything since July 15th.
Should this go on the Historic thread?
-
No suspicion about the quiet. It's not yet Pinnacles season. You'll be back soon enough. We all will.
Meanwhile, come on up and have fun this weekend. We'll do some easier routes to see how the shoulder is feeling? A beer in the evening? Lots of fellow climber/dirtbags, plus a special dinner for Salsa's birthday.
BTW, could you bring shorts to climb in please? Loved those photos on the other thread, but the mediums looked too bulky and uncomfortable. Shorts always provide more comfort :P
-
I'll be there 2 with my boys...…jut not climbing.
-
It's not yet Pinnacles season.
It was only 87 there today and it looked like this past weekend was quite pleasant (only upper 80's and low 90's).
clink has been threatening me with an outing soon.
That just sounds weird
-
+1 for post count.
I bet the Poison Oak is turning into it's beautiful fall colors.
-
Of course the forum is quiet at 2am JC! :P
Temps were fantastic at the Citadel today. Good breeze.
Barely saw any PO!
Breccia said she misses you, buy she understands and respects your commitments.
edit: misread the message infro... didnt realize mudncrud notes the time stamp to the second. oi vei, Power Tools really messed me up!
-
Power does Corrupt!
Power Tools is a fun route.
-
Oh man, it was wild! Led every pitch. Thought I was going to fall any second during the overhang cruxes, but somehow didn't! Such a beautiful setting, great summit.
I botched the first pitch (hand tools 10b), instead of going right after the last bolt then back left, I went left at the last bolt and came up under the ancor on that slightly overhanging arrette/bulge.
I call routes like that "Big-Kid Routes."
Full star experience IMO!

Hello - Hello - where is everyone?
I know we were in the Hills, not sure about everyone else.

Busy cleaning the Condor Gulch map (for the next edition, which is making slow but steady progress, faster now that it's Pinns season).

Thirty years ago Jack Holmgren and I often parked by the West Entrance to Pinnacles well before dawn. We hiked up a brushy slope to a ridgeline that led ultimately to the High Peaks, turning off to the east a bit short of two miles out into
a lovely valley above Piedras Bonitas. Our focus was on fine climbing and adventure, but we weren’t immune to the beauty of the approach: Machete in shadow, dawn’s glow on Scout Peak and the provocative wilderness of remote East Side crags. Yesterday, Mike Russell and I parked at the new visitors center, took that hike and went all the way to the High Peaks. We followed the fence line initially and found it to be a wilderness highway - clear of brush and with easy footing. We turned left on a climbers’ trail ( or so I suppose) just past a prominent white boulder. This took us to a brush-clear ridge and finally to the summit of Goat Rock. We dropped down through the obscure slot in Goat and made it to the ridge west of Scout. Some moderate bush-whacking was required. Getting down tilted slabs and ramps from Scout to the outhouse saddle was far more dicey than I’d anticipated - recent rains made the rock slick and mossy - but we made it. Relaxing in the sunshine at the bench, we decided that reversing our route was more work than we wanted, so we headed down the trail to the parking lot. Once there, we decided that hiking up the new trail was also more work than we needed. We stopped a pick-up exiting the lot and hitched a ride to the top of the hill. The young driver likely thought that the two elderly gents begging for a ride were on their last legs. We hopped in the back of the truck and rode in luxury back to our car. An alert ranger caught us as we turned into the parking lot and warned us that we were breaking California law by lounging in the back of the truck. We assured him we’d never do it again and he let us go. More to the point, he let our good Samaritan go without a citation. Studying our sweaty, gray-bearded visages, he likely decided that the guy had performed a public service.

I was at Pinns yesterday, where where the rest of the peeps?

I had glorious aspirations, but the couch needed serious attention.

Sneaking into the park? Luckily the statute of limitations for that offense is fairly short ;D

We're fair-weather climbers and snobs now. Weekends are so last season.

Raining out outside vertical excursions and some work. Power went out with this first storm. It is forecast to be the lightest of this group. Stocked up and treated 6 gas containers for use.

Built in generator? Do you use a transfer switch and is it automatic?
How many watts vs. usage are you looking at? fridge, lights, laptops, tv, hot tub heater?

You have no business posting here until you answer my text message >:D

I have both but have quit using the large Generacl/transfer switch. The system I am using and have installed now for a few others is a very quiet Honda EU 3000 gas generator. I have back cord wired into a manual safety switch with about 6 circuits plus two dedicated 110 circuits run directly off the generator.
This powers all the lights (LED), kitchen, furnace, 2to3 frdges, computers, TVs,. It will 24hrs on a tank and is so quiet we can run it all night.
Cord can stay plugged in. When power is restored, flip the safety switch and turn off the generator or vice versa.
Way cheaper and quieter than the propane generator.

Ah, Town home life in the suburbs....power never goes out.
Beer can be had at 7-11 in 5min.
No need for a generator or even a chain saw....association would take issue.
Yes, I miss the country days where the power would go out.
Mr Mud needs to get with the texting.

Thx, would love to talk about the set up more. Sounds just about perf except the fuel storage/anticipating need for fuel part. Propane could be tapped directly off the huge tank for me amd seems cheaper per gallon on the face ofnit.

Suckers!!! Amazing weather in Sonora.
Even got a new route (location is top secret).
-
I ran a load of clothes through the washer and dryer and then folded the shirts and jeans. Then I put the socks and boxers in the top drawer, the shirts in the second and the jeans in the third.
In other news, the pork roast smells delicious, it is almost done. I wonder what the plant powered JC climbed today.
-
Good job Clink.
Well JC could not have climbed in Sonora.
I bet Pinnacles was hot.

And after you climbed in "Sonora," did you drive home to your house in Livermore?

We clearly saw the difference between pork and plant powered this weekend.

Well JC could not have climbed in Sonora.

I do climb occasionally on Sonora Pass but generally avoid Sonora.
We had a great PCAD event, culminating in a campfire sing-a-long of every Neil Young song I could muster. :blahblah: :guitar: :ciappa:
The weather was absolutely delightful. :ihih: :arf:

After someone wanted to carpool, someone else left their wallet behind but didn’t realize it until Oakdale. +two more hours on top of major accident delay at 120/108 junction. Fml.

Livermore? Never

Livermore? Never
So you claim that don't live in Livermore?

Pretty much.

Pretty much.
Yeah, well you don't climb in Sonora either. So quit claiming that you do.
Damn pig-headed B.A.P.s that consider anything outside their little settlements "the provinces," and act like all names and places outside their homes are the same. Ignorance, arrogance and evil stubbornness.
You got a lot of room for improvement on this subject, boy.

Back to Neil Young

"the provinces,"
Canada?
that's a real long way to improve! :)

Low expectations.
I am not a Sonora expert, but when the call comes....I have to go.
