The growing length of the Sierra climbing season may soon become an endless summer and with it the demise of the annual migration of climbers situated between the uplift of these great mountains and the shining sea.
One example of this eventuality being the growing absence of sightings of Munge. Once often observed on the the sides of Pinnacles and at the base of trees in the park, Munge is seldom seen now.
The formations themselves have changed little since the first humans to gaze upon them, scratched their large foreheads in wonder at the uncharacteristic rocks rising from the chaparral.

The heart of your comment is true. But the part about Munge? That has nothing to do with climate change. His absence is due completely to a mechanical evil.

Sorry, I contributed to the shortening of the pinnacles season by passing gas at castle today.
Clink, the issue with Pinnacles and Munge is he is his BBL keeping cool enough.

Not completely due to mechanical advantage, but rather a combination of factors in order of importance:
1. Importance of granite as a reliable medium for placing gear. I know, right!
2. Increased crowding and parking on the weekends. A couple sour experiences with permitting for said parking.
3. Raptor closures on those areas that I have a current interest in, it is minimizing available weekends.
4. Winter with snow is amazing to me now! A rebirth of the celebration of winter. Helps that I have a warm bed in winter now.
5. Lack of a regular climbing partner with availability at least partially interested in training and getting on sport stuff outside. I don't solo at Pinns, but do in the Sierra.
6. Growing length of the Sierra climbing season (actually this one probably sits higher, but I don't want to reformat my numbering)
7. Relative ease of finding volcanic rock, if I want it, in the same area as the granite rock is easy. Some beauty volcanic lines are begging to be climbed on 108 and finding reliable partners for such types of adventures is near impossible, or requires a lot of cleaning effort to make them worthwhile.
I sometimes find myself completely blown away that SPH hasn't become a regular destination for the thousands that otherwise head to Pinnacles or Yosemite each weekend. There has been a minor uptick on holiday weekends, summer weekends, and most of those are a bunch of central valley folks.
Regardless, I am committed to a couple Pinns weekends this season. Hopefully Nelkins is still amenable to working on the project. Brad has committed to another effort that at least sets the stage for a return to a potential project, but it is probably too terrifying to really bother with. And I would like to lead the Ridge Rock line Mucci and I TR'd. I'm sure there's other things that I've looked at for those days when the snow isn't deep enough for sleds.

Nice post Munge. I agree. The high I had from Starr Struck last week was intense and it has been awhile since feeling it, two plus years ago on the Third Pillar.
Transitioning from granite to Pinnacles and vice versa was always tough for me. To anyone who reads or posts here, Pinnacles likely holds an important place to them in their experience as climbers. Growing up in Salinas, it was my backyard. The summer I climbed there with Cook two years back culminated what is my favorite of many good years.
I sometimes find myself completely blown away that SPH hasn't become a regular destination for the thousands that otherwise head to Pinnacles or Yosemite each weekend. There has been a minor uptick on holiday weekends, summer weekends, and most of those are a bunch of central valley folks.
This surprises me as well. Be glad of it and promote "Sonora Pass Sucks!".

There's something about multi pitch in Yos. Almost religious or magical. Restorative at the least. Recentering?
Agree with you on the transitioning. Much like the first ski run of the day, the first Pinnacles climb of the season was always a tenuous affair for me. Then once you recall what likely holds and what definitely won't, it becomes more clear and do-able.
Well, if the rains become too much for us, maybe I'll come back to Pinns early this weekend. Got me thinking about it now.

Munge, nothing is more bomber than a pink tri-cam in a high peaks pocket - unless you actually fall on it. Soothes the mind, you know.
