I've had a few inquiries about the MoM weekend this year, so I'm making this a sticky.
That way it's clearly out there for folks to see.
I anticipate lots of participation, tomfoolery, shenanigans and ballyhoo this year.
It's my 60th birthday on Friday April 5th, so we reserved camping for April 5th and 6th. Site 127 (the first group site).
Looking forward to seeing all you Mudders. :yesnod:   :guitar:
-
Okay - let's talk numbers.
Brad
Me and Kat
waldo
clink
Aaron
Joe and Stacy
Julius and friends
Amber
Shane and Calvin
Brian and Whitney
Steve and Laura Dawson
Adam and Kelly
climberdude
-
It's very possible that Kelly and myself will make it down. We do not need tent space as we will sleep in my van.

I added you to the list Atom.
There are 5 parking spaces at the site. We'll only need one for our truck camper.
-
Me, me, me!! ;D
-
Can't believe I forgot to include the dude.
Dude...where you been? Tumblin' tumbleweed?
-
I am likely working.
-
I would like to be there, but probably not camping.
Will I be accepted into the fold or be cast out for not having peformed my morning ablutions in the reservoir?
Will he be dashed to bits in the jagged rocks below?
Will he be rendered non compus mentis?
-
We are casting you out regardless.
No,
Yes,
Yes.
-
There is to be swimming at the reservoir?
-
I would like to be there, but probably not camping.
Sounds mushy, uncertain, like a definite maybe.
-
It always seems to work out....but if we can "call" a parking spot for truck camping that would be great.

Thanks for putting this together once again!!!
-
also hoping for a spot to park Staci's car, most likely sleeping in the car....
thanks again for making the reservations.....
-
Will he be rendered non compus mentis?
huh, is that saying no beer?

The King and I just rode (in da mud!) and he said he's in. 8)

In Mr Mud's absence...
I recommend a picture of Mr. Mud is brought and a monument erected for him.

Bow down. :guitar:

In Mr Mud's absence...
I recommend a picture of Mr. Mud is brought and a monument erected for him.
TO him, not for him.
And yes, a monument. Made of a series of really skinny, pale sticks that barely bend and won't ever break.
-
I am likely working.
I knew you said that in the other thread.
Sounds like Mr Mud will not be able to make it either.
You will both be sorely missed.
Speaking of sorely missed...NOAL - are you coming?
Kat also reminded me today that Caleb will probably want to be there with the boys.
Maybe Cheryl and her boys too?
Who else have I forgotten?
-
Might come down Saturday night (not likely) or Sunday. work is work and i have to play the game looking over worked.
Yes, a mr mud shrine will be needed, complete with fake candles and fake offerings.
Complete with is favorite quote, “I am a sport climber”.
-
just for f4
DIE
-
I’m a solid maybe. Myself plus between 0 - 3 kids.
-
There is to be swimming at the reservoir?
Ablutions only! I'll pull in Saturday afternoon, un-abluted.
-
Is ablation like inebriation? If so put us down for 3, probably 3 days.
-
To Mr Mud....
:-*
-
I will be there. I think two or three of my friends from the Bay Area will be coming.
-
Looks like one of the Chance brothers is trying out a career move as a meteorologist.
-
Yeah, it'll be me and my partner Mary Friday through Sunday! Possibly my friend Natalie and her boyfriend Evan sometime through the weekend. And maybe Zach (the muscly log-carrying fella on the PCAD covers?) and his girlfriend Haley on Sunday.
This is a nice turnout! Although I'm beginning to look at the forecast and even if it does rain somewhat Thursday and Friday, I will be doing something I never thought I'd do at Pinns: chasing the sun! :out:
In any case, meet at the upper parking lots Friday morning (if I can crawl in before 9:30...?) or meet at the not yet campsite? Is the campsite looking too full with the turnout? I could get my own (I think).
OH, and I almost forgot! Given how rainy it actually has been throughout California (and my not being around anymore), is the Thursday/Friday precipitation forecast cause for concern? Just a likely sprinkle?
-
Dang dude - that's a lot of info to take in!
Keep telling yourself everything will be fine.
Relax.
We'll see you Friday  :yesnod:

I’ve been cast out. Much like the demon in The Exorcist.
THE POWER OF THE CHOSS COMPELS YOU!
THE POWER OF THE CHOSS COMPELS YOU!
THE POWER OF THE CHOSS COMPELS YOU!
But for reals I’ve got a rare opportunity for a sled focused avi class and the rare time off to do it in, so need to beg off in the name of safety.
Safety is no accident.
-
I thought it was safety 3rd?
So send me you project list and I’ll take care of them.
-
Noal said I have to get on the training program. Got projects to do! :)
So no list for F4! We will blindfold you and just send you up. At the last bolt climb 30’ then drill or gear. Heh
-

Or sling the jockstone

You have. And I tore my prized running tights.
You can share with me. I won’t do too much damage.
-
Attended gym tonight. Five 5.7s climbs. Then one “10c”
-
Did you down climb the 10c ?
-
Attended gym tonight. Five 5.7s climbs. Then one “10c”
yeah but the .10C was a pure sandbag.

Squiddo, were you riding mtb @ stevens creek a few sundays ago?
-
Squiddo, were you riding mtb @ stevens creek a few sundays ago?
hmmm a few Sundays ago I was in YNP climbing. Thats my old hood and grew up riding there. Its all F4 rides now, maybe it was him!
-
Passed this guy going opposite ways. I had to get back to the car before dark so no time to talk. Just making sure was not you. With the glasses and helmets people look similar.
-
Yeah Noal, I like riding Stevens canyon. Sadly the latest storm damage have made the creek crossing a wet mess. No chance to beat my strava times....
You will know it’s me, I don’t slow down.
-
You will know it’s me, I don’t slow down.
Cause you're already slow.....
-
Cause you're already slow.....
Hurts man, really hurts.....
Plus I don't like riding up the canyon.
Sad to see the stream crossings get torn up by the creek.
I am tempted to put in a bridge on the small cossing. The stream washed all the dirt out.
The bigger corssing is just messed up adn the trail is gone and the creek is deep!
-
Kelly and I will definitely show up Friday. I may have broken one or more of my fingers attempting to ski the whole rim of Yosemite valley so climbing might be nixed for me. Debating whether I should get it xrayed before or after the weekend. There could be benefits to either direction.

;) ;D
-
Dropped a few and added some to the list after getting messages and emails today.
Weather doesn't look great for Friday but the other days look okay and we can always take a hike or do some mud wrestling (well...you all can).
I was hoping to get a new route done or at least started today but it did not happen.
Crazy amounts of people in the park today (for a weekday) - has to be Spring Break or Youth Program related.

Wow. Thats cool. Psyched to see everyone and have you meet Kelly. We’ll be sleeping in the van and can park it wherever but could be useful to keep beers really cold.

Friday it rained .05 inches. So much for the weather forecasters atmospheric river. It was a light rain from 12:30 to 2:30 and then the sun started making an appearance.
Saturday a group went to the Birds and we went to Junction Rocks and the Ghost Slabs. Got a friend from the gym on her first lead and just had a relaxing day with sunshine, flowers and good company.
Sunday we went up and I put a two bolt anchor on Katwalk. I did some reminiscing back to the days when that route went up.
Monday we did a new route on the Frog while Brad, Aaron and climberdude finished Spoof Proof Roof. Both lines turned out nice with The Great Escape topping out near the standard rappel after 180 feet. A juvenile condor landed on the true summit just as we were finishing.
Yesterday we went back out to the Frog and Tadpole after talking to Bruce and Clint - then Gavin and Alacia (in the upper parking lot). We ended the day hanging out with Bruce and Clint below the Thumb. The sky was weird most of the day with fast-moving clouds and swirling, gusty winds.
Okay...your turns...
-
By the way...Julius gets the award for most miles traveled to attend.
Matt rode his bike from Salinas.
There were no sightings of Joe with his shirt off.
-
I had a great time at this years Masters of Mud. The weather forecasters had it all wrong.
-
Great fun.
Now I've got to work into the next three days more than a dozen new route descriptions (half are FAs or new discoveries and half are from guidebook research) and two corrections with long explanations. Along with all my "normal-life" stuff (and I know what you just thought to yourself Mud, so DIE).
And I really am starting to like the place.

: )

Hey Mud Brother,
Can you post one of those shots of me and Aaron drilling pretty please?
And to all you Mudders - How about next year?
Sunday April 12th is Easter so I'm thinking the next weekend would be best (April 17 and 18).
Thoughts?
-
Way to far away for me to even guess

Downloading photos later tonight (if I don't fall asleep first).
Pick a date, I'll be there (assuming I live that long, etc...).

April 17 & 18, 2020 sounds great to me!

A bunch of us started at The Birds on Saturday. And we got a lot done (a lot of climbing and a lot of research). The heat eventually got to us though and we sought refuge in the shade at Voyeur Wall. Climberdude loved the cool and promptly fell asleep:

On Sunday Climberdude helped me get the redpoint of Fifi Wears Lycra, the old one-bolt Jon McConachie project just right of Poodle With a Mohawk, now a 70 foot 5.9, one star climb (Jon asked me to keep his original, intended name).
It went smoothly. When he followed, Mark was as impressed with Jennifer's first lead of the crux water-chute exit as I was. Brilliant effort on her part five weeks ago (she's BAP on this site).
Done there, we cross-countried to the Junction Rocks area, coming across an apparently never-climbed, 45 foot pinnacle in the process (Yellowflower Pinnacle, class four; the name is a tribute to the incredible color that day, FA unknown).
Upon our sweaty arrival, we joined in on the FA of Conjunction Junction (with Dawsons and Hamiltons). Thankfully the creek was still flowing (it was really hot and the immersion felt good).
No photos by me this day.
-
On Monday we went to The Frog in Louisiana-like humidity. Mark and Aaron each pulled the namesake feature on Spoof Proof Roof, placing bolts six and seven:

Later, I was lucky enough to get the redpoint, finishing that by placing a two-bolt anchor, 95 feet from the ground (5.9, two stars).
Meanwhile, J.C. and K.C. were also up to no good, with John wandering up the face to the right of Lonesome Dove's traverse (now The Great Escape, 5.7 R). I got this shot of two leaders drilling on two simultaneous, ongoing FAs (photo taken from just above The Snail):

Throughout the weekend I camped with the Cooks. In an unusual twist, I noticed Kathy’s overt envy of my food and my meals. She seemed particularly jealous about my dinners in that the cumulative total time I took for three complete dinners (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday combined) was 20 minutes including meal preparation through completely done with dinner (it might actually have been closer to 15 minutes).
Imagine then my sense of irony (and joy) when I received this text message today, sent to my phone by my older daughter Katie (so much to be proud of with her!!!):

Thanks for posting those photos.
I savored them in much the same way I savor preparing and enjoying a delicious, nutritious, hot meal.
There must be something in the food you are eating that causes grand delusions :yesnod: :out: :prrr: :ciappa:

Turns out the envy was not about your food.
I know I don't have Brad's perfect tan but honestly...who wears them better?

I know what happened...they are in a google private folder and we were logged into a google chrome browser so they were showing up. Now i can see that they are not public. I have failed as IT support....

Sadness. Will try to fix today when IT wakes up and is properly caffeinated.

Hey if ya got it, flaunt it
at least that's what my volleyball friends tell me when I cringe at all the (_Y_) they show on the beach these days. Lucky for me, kimberly has a GIGANTIC europe shaped birthmark on half of her behind. Looking fwd to "mediums", at least, for her.

Well the least brad could do would be to shave them legs!

What total nonsense. An obvious hack job.
When have you ever (EVER) seen me wear shorts that have:
- No scuff marks;
- No tears;
- No patches;
- And really, no wear at all?
Oh, and having just returned from a week of climbing in Joshua Tree? Your Photoshop job is seriously missing the tan....

MTE!!!

MTE!!!
Got a lot of that. Mixed with some Joshua Tree wide-crack abrasions though. My tan is currently a little less than perfect :o

Lookin' hawt! Loving that wrestler style mullet! meow.
-
Noal, I had a nice ride down Stevens canyon this evening, the PO is a growing.
-
Which route or trails do you usually ride? How was the weather? I usually start up on skyline and do both sides of 35 in a loop. Down into Steven's and back up.Yesterday it looked like it might be drizzling/misty up there so I did not go.
-
I am a creature of habit...up monteB road, down Bella Luna and down the canyon. In the summer I extend from Bella Luna to sunny Jim and Russian ridge, then down Stevens canyon.....usually I only have a few hours to get home fast.
Yesterday was cold windy and wet at the top. Much nicer in the canyon. Oddly ran into a Ranger on foot at the bottom of Bella Luna.
I was lazy and did not stop to spray the Poisen Oak. I usually do this time of the year.
-
In the summer I extend from Bella Luna to sunny Jim and Russian ridge, then down Stevens canyon.
What's your best time doing this route?
The loop I have been doing lately is skyline ridge parking, down skid road, up to top of black mountain, back down canyon, table mountain trail, cross skyline, long ridge, cut through aquarian valley/devils canyon, chestnut trail, xmas tree farm, back to skyline ridge parking. I think it is about 15 miles.
-
My loop with Sunny Jim is 25miles...3hrs and change.
Brutal in the summer, but I always stop at the Mid Pen site and douse with water...
-
Oddly ran into a Ranger on foot at the bottom of Bella Luna.
Female? If so, seen her before hiding behind trees clocking mtbs w/ radar gun.
-
Yes!! The spot was at the end, so I was already slowing down.
I hate riding up there in the afternoon for that reason.
-
Noal, are you biking or hiking?
-
Trotting the downhill and flat stuff and hiking up the steep bits Trying to keep heart rate around 145. Would like to get that to happen for about 80% of this loop. Table mountain shoots my hr up to about 165 for about a 1.5 hrs or so. Ouch.
I dont own a bike. Might consider riding one.
