Holy shit!
Ham-handed nimrods seem to be at large. Thousands of photos... poof. Long, long members with thousands of posts... poof.
Will the site survive? Oh the drama :o
Thank God for Mudn'Crud!!

What are you talking about?

What are you talking about?
Click on the thread: "Please do not upload images you don't own on SuperTopo."
Started today. All photos that aren't hosted on Supertopo are gone (all of mine are gone). As far as I can tell, all of Dingus' are gone. Mouse From Merced protested and he's gone. It's a shit-show (which, in honesty, I hope settles down and is fixed).
-
Finally some drama!!!
I mean Brads pack was impressive.
Bummer!
-
Can’t understand removing the url tags?!?
Yeah, that might be the end it. Shame too.
-
Best post on the "sh#tshow" thread yet:
"How do you photograph a train wreck if you’re on it?"
I like the site and I know many, many others do too. I hope they get a handle on it.
-
Can’t understand removing the url tags?!?
I don't understand this part of your post and am curious what it means. Could you explain it to me in plain English?
-
It looks like on my TRs the image links aka urls that point to the flickr images are gone. Those links are what presents the image in line when it has tags. They did that removal by finding all the well formed [img] “tags” and deleting those en masse. They’ll never be able to restore those.
-
unless they do a point in time restore, which I agree will never happen. If you upload an image onto their server, from the user agreement, it appears they own it. Unless I read that wrong or things changed.
-
I do not understand deleting links to images. How is that copy right infringement? Anyone have a clear understanding on this one?
On another note. They are welcome here, lol
-
See my efforts focused on this site we’re well spent.
They must have been faced with a large elaphant....forcing an entire moles wracking in one go.
Now what do I do? Read a paper book?
Maybe it’s time for a new site...CAbouldering.com
-
yep, the rise of the microsite is real, except for the dastardly FB jack boots!
Really, the ST deletions came about because someone felt cute, and followed through...
lol

Just got worse... no political threads...
http://www.supertopo.com/climbers-forum/3190978/SuperTopo-is-not-a-Place-for-Political-Discussions
-
I am ok with the shutdown of political threads. If it happens here and there due to some momentary laps of reason that is one thing. But the taco at times has way more politics than anything else. It has actually gotten better, there for a while it may as well have been a political site.
-
well the political shit going to the top is a result of people not posting real content.
So we're all implicated.
But a 'site for climbers' is not the same as a 'climbers site' so a mix of thread topics is ok. I just didn't like not being able to filter as the mood strikes.
-
Looks like they rolled out this change to embed links...

Just got worse
I say better. That should have happened a long time ago. It's sad that grown people can't behave. I'm surprised that some of the heated stuff on there has not lead to some one hunting the other party down and killing them.
Hurry you can still enjoy BULGEMELON.

A distraction is needed. Someone go bolt nut cracker!!!
Maybe we will get some new blood.
Add a Yosemite area. People can post up trip reports.
-
Cascade Climbers went through a similar over haul years back. Accounts modded, content deleted. It gets less traffic but it is more of a climber site now. Any one remember the climbing site with the topless thread. lol It was by far their busiest thread. That is long gone but the site remains.
-
Someone go bolt nut cracker!!!
Just one bolt at the mantle move and bolted rap stations would be interesting.
-
I belayed a 70 something year old dude on that mantel. No bolt required.

Super panties in a bunch is experiencing self moderated destruction?

Agreed. but just one added bolt would make a distraction.
Another one would be chopping the tree at base of generator crack. Always wanted to post that on April fools.
-
I'll video you doing both Noal.
-
Could also erase midnight lighting bolt like James Lucas did but replace with a chalk drawing of AC/DC logo (or drawing of penis)
-
Was it Jake Miller that posted boot flake fell off?
Yes earasing the lightening bolt crack would be a start....i like adding of bolts with pictures..more drama the better.
-
Does ST exist?
-
It exists in our minds!!

What mantel? Pinns climbers stem until they can step onto the little ledge.

It’s all about creating the drama.
Drama= entertainment
I am 1/2 tempted to add a bolt to Wet KISS just to see the drama.

It'd be the last drama you ever saw....

Dear useless ones. My question awaits it's answer.
-
Sure, get a shirt with “route maintenance” on the back.
Then again Gavin would catch me, as he rappels down.

Dear useless ones. My question awaits it's answer.
Buy low, sell high. If anything gets in your way....turn.

Dear useless ones. My question awaits it's answer.
Never buy a tunafish sandwich in Sacramento in August. Or September.
-
Safe advice Waldo!
What about tolerance?
Accepting say were into add bolts to some route.
-
ST still exists, but you (or anyone) can no longer post. So it remains as a searchable "resource" but no new info can be posted.
I also think they removed all images from the site, except for those on trip reports. Also all photos that were not hosted on Supertopo (meaning hosted elsewhere and embedded, like how it works on this site) are removed.

Somewhere on the interwebs:
"Although SuperTopo will continue to exist as an archive, the online Forum will no longer accept new posts after June 1st, 2019. Last week thousands of SuperTopo members were shocked and saddened to see the following message from SuperTopo cofounder Chris McNamara:
“It is with a sad heart that I announce that normal operation of the SuperTopo Climber’s Forum will cease June 1st. The Forum has been an amazing digital campfire, with more than 2 million posts over the last 18 years. It has reconnected many climbers with old friends and helped many climbers make new friends. And, there have been many amazing and compelling posts on the site, especially those on climbing-related topics that have been enjoyed by millions of people.
I have received a ton from this community and feel lucky to have been a part of it. I’ve met a lot of my heroes on this forum and made many great connections. I give warmest thanks to you all. The forum was a big wild experiment with many highs and lows. But mostly highs.”
We reached out to Chris McNamara in Tahoe to see if we could get more details. I asked him about some of the highlights, especially when climbing legends like Royal Robbins joined the online discussion. “Having Royal and other legends join SuperTopo was a dream. Unlike a poster signing where you might just shake hands and say “good to meet you”, on the Forum you could engage with your heroes. That and the memorial tributes were my favorite parts.”"

Life without ST has been horrible.
Now, I don't have Supertopo to help me waste away my time at work.
I am actually having to do work.
Ugh!

Wrong. He's a Bud Light of the lime variety.

Hey, Hey, Hey, I tried to get Mungie to mix things up with Bud Lite Orange, but he would not budge.
