Get registered all you crudders!
We only have a few weeks to go until the event and we already have 24 registered (limit this year is 50).
If you are interested - this is a great way to give something back to the park and hang with a great group of people.
We always have a lot of fun and the park really needs our help this year.

What is that chimney route?
-
^^^
It's 5.6 and is going from no stars to two stars in the new book. Remarkably solid rock. You had a chance to climb it this spring, but it was too late in a fairly warm day.
-
Was that the day we went to Voyeur (spelling?) wall later in the day?
-
Yep.
-
Look at that....I remembered something!
-
I just checked and the temps are forecast in the mid to upper seventies for next weekend.
We have some nice raffle and auction items up for grabs.
I need experienced folks to step up and be willing to lead a crew for trail brushing or trash pickup.
-
Yup, I can take a crew.
-
Will work commence on Friday?

Will work commence on Friday?
Hey Waldo - due to a shortage of park staff, we will only be working on Saturday this year. We will still be camping Friday and Saturday night. We will be headed down early Friday to meet with Park Staff and hopefully get in a little climbing before heading back to camp for the evening.

PCAD 2019 was very enjoyable.
I thought we had a successful event and got a lot of work accomplished.
Our trash crews found a ton of refuse and our trail brushing crews did a huge service.
I am anxious to go take a long hike and survey all the work.
After the crews were on their way, we moved tables and chairs to the campground and then I packed up to do some bolt checks.
I had a special request from David Rubine to inspect and possibly replace the bolts on Stupendous Man. I found two lead bolts with loose hangers and torqued those to specification. I inspected and checked torque on the remaining bolts (they are all in good shape). I found three loose anchor hangers on bolts at three different locations along the top of the wall and torqued them all to spec.
Yesterday (Sunday) we had fun climbing at Goat Rock and hopefully everyone else did too – wherever you were climbing. What a beautiful day! I led a route and did an anchor replacement while we were out there.
The taco truck was a big hit again this year and the auction and raffle were fun and entertaining.
One of the highlights of the evening was a mystery bidder calling out from the shadows by the tree barricade when the piece of Pinnacles art was on the auction block (Brad was battling for it). I was stunned and overjoyed when Mr. Mud emerged from the shadows and spent some time hanging out with the group.
I’d like to say thanks again to all the committee members (Aaron, Dina, Kat, Caleb and clink), Friends of Pinnacles (Bruce and Brooks), Pinnacles National Park Foundation (Jenn), the ASCA, the Access Fund, the American Alpine Club and most of all – ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS! You folks are the ones that make the event possible!!!
Alright all you crudders - post some pics!
I’ll do another post when we get our various donations together, so you can see all of the good PCAD does for Pinnacles and the climbing community.
Happy trails, safe climbing and most of all – Here’s Mud in Your Eye!

A highlight from the climbing: Alex Dawson held his first lead fall (Lexi was wonderful about letting him belay).

Encouraging all crew leaders (clink, Brad, KC, climberdude, Bruce, Yo-so-mighty) to share what they did and post some pics.

Great event! Thanks again

My group cleaned up the climber approach trails to the top of Discovery Wall, Teaching Rock, The Upper Crust, The Sisters, and up to Gertie's Pinnacle. We encountered very little trash, but a few pieces of toilet paper and lots of trimming the brush on the sides.
Hats off to the event organizers. I really enjoyed the tacos and the raffle/auction.
-
Following Clink we cleared the trail to the Hand the the Frog. Alex really enjoyed the McLeod and went to work on flattening the trail and "raking" the pine and oak leaves.

Those are great Steve.
Kat's comment was "Alex has really come into his own".
Nice root ball and orange shirt in that first pic and goofin' in the last one - gave me a chuckle.
So glad you all made it this year   :yesnod:

We had a great time. Really glad we were able to find a dog sitter so we could stay the whole weekend.
Watching Alex with the confidence to go down and belay Lexi, and then catch a lead fall, was one of those things that makes a parent is both proud and terrified. He made it sound like it was no big deal, but anytime you hold someones life in your hands is a big deal. Afterward Lexi told us that if we said he was good belayer then she trusted our judgment. Glad she was right ;)

That was a fine day of work and I enjoyed being with all of you!

My crew of 12 hiked up toward Marmot Rocks from The Monolith and then brushed the upper and middle trails out to Marmot's north side. Both of these are use-trails, having developed over many, many years of use. Both needed work; the middle trail especially had been completely obliterated by a fallen pine. We also used cut brush to obscure the "braided" alternates that had been developing. These trails are in great shape now.
We then moved down and around the north side of Yaks Wall. I've been using this approach to the north side of Yaks since the mid 1980s and don't ever recall this use-trail being so brushy. Now? It's as good as I've ever seen it.
The hillside south, along Yaks Wall, is mostly grass. We removed what brush needed removing while consolidating a series of braided trails into one.
From the saddle between Yaks and The Hanging Valley, we then cleared the trail through Hanging Valley, down past Kasperaks, to the creek, all the way to the point where we'd cleared that trail working upstream last year.
This was unquestionably one of the two physically hardest PCAD work days I've ever been on. Very satisfying.
Thanks to John, Kathy, Jon, Aaron, Caleb, Dina, and John of NPS (and others who were a little less directly involved) for keeping the momentum of this event going year after year.

My team of 8 (9 including Keenan) hiked up Condor Gulch to the High Peaks to pick up trash. Once we got to the split for The Steep and Narrow trail and the Tunnel Trail we split in to two groups so we could cover more ground. We hooked back up at the Outhouse and back down the trail to Bear Gulch. We found numerous water bottles, several beer and pop cans, one glass beer bottle, one hat and way too much TP. Would be nice if we could teach people to carry a little plastic baggie to pack their TP back out. Fun was had by all. I'll see if I can get JC to post some pictures for me.
Thanks again everyone for making this another successful event.
