I use this version of the precipitation guage, so you can see what has happened when.

I think maybe a "Sticky" should have Pinnacles spelled correctly. :)
-
Nice catch.
I suggested to him make another Sticky with the title "Pinnicles, that's I in Pinnacles." But he talked about deleting this thread and migrating its content into a new correctly-spelled one. That's like cheating.
-
hey, whatever works. I'd say create a page of content for Pinnacles stuff on the mudncurd website.
-
Tonight, Saturday night, Sunday night...
13 degrees, 14 degrees, 19 degrees...
Have fun.
-
you could break a nipple off in that kind of weather, bbbbbbrrrrrrrrrr
-
LOL! Might be a good day to do "Nipple Jam".
Right now where I live it is already 32.7 at 1958 hours. Should hit about 15 for us and I live just SW of Paso Robles.
-
no doubt! hah!
-
14.5 was my low in Templeton this morning.
In Morro Bay, it was so cold that as the backwaters of the estuary receded with the tide going out it left a solid sheet of ice.
BTW, I free-soloed Nipple Jam(first pitch) when I was 9. Didn't know I could die if I fell.
-
probably a record for youngest solo of that route.

My favorite weather link from the NPS weather station...
http://www.met.utah.edu/cgi-bin/roman/meso_base.cgi?stn=PCLC1
I also use wunderground.com and search the 95043 zip code. Scrolling down past the regular forecast, you'll find the temps and probability of precip specifically for Pinn. Very accurate.
-
Thanks Brett. I have updated the list of links in the sticky post. Good info!
And welcome to the Forum!
-
This just went live last week- real time weather data from the NPS weather station:
http://weather.weatherbug.com/CA/Paicines-weather.html?zcode=z6169&stat=PCNNS
This weather station is similar to the www.met.utah.edu link mentioned previously. Both are located on the east side in the hills a bit west of the campground. The station feeding information to this new link is managed by the NPS, the other is managed cooperatively and primarily for wildland fire use.
-
Why check. It never rains at the Pinnacles. Right??
-
nice Brett, thx for that!
-
I have added the Climbers' Log to Pinnacles NM to the sticky post.
-
The eastside campground link at the beginning of this post has been outdated for a while now. Here's the new link for reservations:

-
Hi Brett, Thanks very much for the heads up. The link has just been fixed.
-
I wish to applaud the current trail crew at Pinnacles for what is an enormous amount of work on the trails in the Park.
-
Yes, definitely, a huge thank you to those guys!
-
We met one of the new rangers on Saturday - Matt - he said they were thinking about starting a climber's coffee on Sundays so maybe we can thank them in person soon - or at the MoM weekend. They are currently doing some serious reinforcement of the Moses Springs trail past the Monolith where it starts down to the crossing for the reservoir outflow.
-
This last Saturday I took a group of climbing friends to the Pinnacles. These are climbers who mostly climb indoors and occasionally outdoors. They had a great time. I provided them with a list of preparation suggestions and observations of what to expect gathered from the Friends of Pinnacles website, Brad's guidebook, Mountain Project's Pinnacles section (not a fan, but the introduction section is great) and my observations. The group really enjoyed the Pinnacles and thanked me for helping them with suggestions for preparation and climbing.
-
Pinnacles is over-rated.
;)
-
The link for purchasing the guidebook goes to REI and they have not had it in stock for a while. And used copies on Amazon and other used book sellers can be very very expensive. Does anyone know of any other sources for purchasing the Pinnacled Guidebook?
Thanks!
-
Hello Inno,
I got your message too.
I have fewer than 50 copies left unsold. The most recent wholesale sales have been to Pacific Edge climbing gym and to the Park Service itself. So copies may/should be for sale at or through the gym and at both Pinnacles Visitor Centers.
I stopped selling guidebooks retail because of the hassle of having to do sales tax payments to the State of California every quarter (not paying the taxes would be way too risky - fines and penalties if they look into failure would be horrific).
-
Inno, let us know if you had any luck with Pacific Edge and Pinnacles store. If not, let us know where you are physically located (city) and we might be able to get a short term loan figured out.
Of course, if you rope gun for me, I'll come with a copy for you to flip through. ;) Certain master of mud says I should get on harder climbs at Pinnacles to improve my technique.
-
Don’t buy a Pinnacles Guide form REI, no way.
Pacific Edge and PG, hope they open soon.
Yes mud worm, you need to graduate to the 12’s
I am still on the 9’s, but someday the 10’s.
-
Dunno those holds could keep breakin.....

I talked to a budding unicyclist near Seacliff today and he said the gym (Pacific Edge) is open again.
The Visitor Center on the west side is not open.
Copy and paste from the park website; (love the spelling)

i'd buy it. There's never any good manifestos around anymore...

I was a little shocked Sunday about the water spigot/drinking fountain at the main parking lot on the West Side (Chaparral Trailhead Parking). We came back from climbing to signs on both parts saying that the water is "non-potable."
I have no idea what the issue is, but another climber we talked to saw someone testing the water that morning.
For the time being, I'd assume that there's no drinking water available at that trailhead.
-
^^^
We have routinely seen that guy testing water.
Must be some issue with the well.
-
To me that water has always been non potable. Its never been good.
-
Tecate
-
I drank the water. Didn't see this post. :o
-
Ha!!
I usually bring my own water fresh from Hech Hechy.
It tastes pretty sweet.
The monument water always had a definite taste.
Glad to hear they test it regularly.
Maybe Waldo has the right strategy?

BLL = Hydrobeer
Dangerous not to stay hydrated at Pinns. Everyone knows this.
-
I updated the weather forecast link at the top of this thread - it should be a bit more accurate now.
-
Not sure where to put this, but it's pretty big news for Pinnacles climbing (and for all U.S. Wilderness climbing):
