Just a quick question regarding a photo on the cover page of mud n crud. The bird’s eye view pic of the person laying/sitting on top of a tower. It reminds me of that classic black & white photo of Royal Robbins on (I think) el cap tower or some such place. My question is where in Pinnacles was that taken?

Thanks!

Russ,
I originally thought you were asking about the photo on this page (upper right corner).
I think you are actually talking about the old cover page.
The other picture without the person may be Lion's Head.
The one with the person sitting/maybe belaying - no idea - I can see carabiners/draws when I zoom in like it's a multi pitch.
Probably only Mr. Mud knows.
if you want some entertainment - go to the old site and read some of Mr. Mud's stories - wow.
-
Yeah I was referring to the old cover page with the person.
-
It is El Cap Tower.
-
Thanks Mud.
I didn't think it was Pinns.
Way too far up (based on trees below) and I wasn't aware of any multi-pitch in Pinns with a belay like that.
I've read your stories on the old site before and they are just as interesting the next time around.

Thanks for the clarification. I would look at that pic and think what a cool place, still a cool place just not where I thought it was.
-
How long of a rappel rope did it take?
-
To rap in for the photo.
-
WTF mr mud were you doing on el cap tower??
That’s not. Sport climbing!!
Pinnacles, it’s all about Pinnacles!!!
Yes, Mr Mud has gotten around.
Ask him for his Astroman beta and you’ll thinks it’s 5.8!!!

We just paid a bunch of people to make it happen.

Okay okay, tell the class your salathe headwall story…….
You said your partner had a special request for you…..
-
Let me guess... the time there were 3 parties below and your partner is 3/4's up the next pitch, directly above you, and gets the three alarm super urgent second series call of nature. You hold a brown bag and try to make the mud falcon catch of the century?
BTW, how did you get the your handle?
-
Brown bag special, no problem. Shaken, not stirred.
It fit, old sayin from when I was younger. Seems in life I have always had an innate ability to find trouble even when I was deliberately trying to avoid it and sometimes I just cannot walk away from it when I know it is in my best interest to do so. I also have the ability to tend to say the wrong thing and it is something. It just kind of comes out wrong. Was loosely aware of the song and later became a fan of Primus.
Salathe took me three attempts, the last attempt I was just waiting for something to go wrong. Second attempt we bailed from the Alcove. Third attempt while bivying on Long Ledge my partner told me that I could just relax now. Just could not do it. He actually yelled at me and threatened to bail from the Block cuz I was driving him nuts.

He wanted a BJ but we were out of beer.
-
The part where one partner requested as you lead the headwall to back clean as you went.
When it came time for home to follow, he went for the mother of all swings!
-
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that . . .
-
That was on the roof, I did back clean until it got a bit too uncomfortable and he did take a monster swing. Not sure who had the bigger eyes.

This is not pinns...
image file name even says Salathe 8)

But, you have to admit that Mud managed to make it look chossy somehow.
