After six years I finally broke the pecker. The Rocpec that is. Not sure exactly how many holes I got out of it but I think close to 100.
The retainer ring blew off and there was nothing left to keep the drill bit held in. If this happens to you do not worry. I drilled three holes without the internal spring, ball bearing or ring to hold the bit in. Just have to be careful not to drop the bit when you pull out.
A month or so ago Brad also destroyed his Rocpec. All of a sudden the holder would not turn the bit. It just spun around and around. Upon further inspection we discovered he had completely obliterated the internal nubbins that fit the grooves in the SDS bit. Crazy.
New pecker will be here this week.

Brad "finished destroying" his Rocpec. Apparently the process had been underway for quite some time. I'm sure I got well over 100 holes out of mine, but yeah, weird to look into the hole and the part that used to be there is scraped away? Just gone.

Funny thing is usually when something breaks I get kind of ticked. In this situation it was more like " well, we had a good run didn't we?"
