sick pic of the knifeblade
been there done that!
-
Mr Mud took that Knifeblade shot with me standing there, and so up until he posted it I remebered it as being one I took. Memory is strange that way. It just got placed in the book, so I'll have to go back and credit the photo properly.
-
Cool thanks, it was a lucky shot.

Are you sure that will look like anything worthwhile in black and white? The edge is barely discernable anyways??
-
It doesn't look bad at all. Just printed out the book - 317 pages takes it through route #782 (just past Cuidado!). Its going to come in at about 400 pages, pretty thorough coverage. I suspect that 13 people will give a flying phuck, and that only 20 of those pages will ever be used much. I am considering printing just 14 copies, one for each person who will give a ---, and an extra for my dad!
Copies aside, it's been a lot of fun.
-
I just can't resist posting this one. Maybe I need to crop it a bit?

It's funny... Part of me wants to sacrifice my knees for skiing this year, but the part that will win is the side that wants to climb more this winter... :)

I was confused the guide mentioned nothing about shake and bake being a river in the winter.
Note to self....if it rains for 2 weeks straight, the pins will be soggy.
We prolly shouldda hoofed it up to the high peaks.

For what? Hiking, cardio good! mudworm knows how much fun running laps
on the mtb would be. A guy can dream!

Ha, that should have been captioned Jake's last pinns pic of his life! Just kidding, I've been there since, at least a few times. But wasn't that a few years ago? I have a second kid who is older than that now... :o How time files. Get out and climb before you blink and its next year!

I don't know how you parents do it. not just 1, but 2 of them?! lots of work my friend :)

Exquisite reflections this morning.
-
Sweet! ;D
-
Cool pics.
Always wondered what the lookout looked like.
-
Dang! I want to get that same reflection shot, but with someone leading coyote ugly. And a full moon to boot.
And finally we get a close up look of the fire lookout! Looks like it needs a paint job.
If it were in asia....or S. Africa there'd be either a food court up there w/ beer (S Africa) OR a noodle vendor & a gift shop (asia). Good old usa.....a bunch of scragglie sage bushes.
Good job!
-
Do they still man that old fire lookout? If not they ought to fix it up and rent it out as a hut. I know of a few places that do that but not sure about the NPS. Easy way to pick up a few bucks and a cool place to stay.

Joe- you will always be the Mayor of the Meadows to me. Keep the title bud, you've earned it.
-
From that photo I wasn't sure whether Factor was talking about Joe, or someone else. Joe, you shaved all or a lot of the facial hair? Wow, what a change!
And, yeah , he's not the mayor of Pinnacles. Everyone knows he's the mayor of Tuolumne Meadows.

Brad-
That makes you the President of the Pinns

Oh, yeah, President. I'll have to check in with Hosni Mubarak here real soon. I'll find out how cool it must be to be "The President." No, not me. Have you, Marc, heard of the Chance Brothers?
-

lol, no Brad I have not. Do tell!
-
Yeah, The Chance Brothers have a lot to say about me being "President." It would help to know their first names: Fat, No, and Slim.
-

lol, I was so open for tht one. OK, my point was you deserve the title with your route count.
-
Thanks to mudworm for taking the picture of me on Plague.
Yep, Brad is the Prez of the Pinns..
-
Wrong. Actually the math is very simple: total route count, multiplied by rock quality, divided into distance driving to Pinnacles versus driving to much closer granite = Court Jester.
-
Brad- if you can live with that title then so can I. ::)
-
Let's gather at the West Side parking lot and demand a campground in our collective revolt!!! :)

Our own campground.....nice!
-
We are collectively revolting!
Or, was that revolting collectively. Either way me thinks it is a hit.
-
With you guys, yeah the collective would include a fair amount of beer. Given enough time, you guys would pass out, ending the revolt.
Pony up and stay at the Inn.
That or the campground in Kings City!
-
How far is King City again? County RV parks, tough gig.
checking home prices in Soledad again...

why are we renting a hotel?

Anybody ever try camping on La Gloria Rd? I always thought that looked like a promising place to bivy.
-
Anybody ever try camping on La Gloria Rd? I always thought that looked like a promising place to bivy.
Interesting and good question. I'd love to hear....for the most part they (locals) don't seem to want our kind out there. OK OK, next time I'll dig a hole and carry out the TP/Empties/ETC.
-
So Squiddo you are suggesting I should bring a Gloc if I decide to camp out there?
-
When me and munge were Projecting "Premeditated", I told him about a bivy off Aryo Seco ? Road....
I was yapping about " best spot no doubt, nice pullout, secluded" etc....
We Drove for hours, U-turn after U-turn etc.
finally found it and it had been "FILLED IN!"
We bivied in a weird spot, really spooky just above the road on a shoulder trail.
Of all of my West side bivies, I wish I had a gun on that one.
Where is this road you speak of Adam?
Always nice to have options, .9mm, .40 cal, 10 gauge.......
-
So Squiddo you are suggesting I should bring a Gloc if I decide to camp out there?
Indeed. "Betsy" is my sweet little sexy 12 guage.
-
La Gloria road is a dirt road that crosses the mountains in a west-east direction just north of Pinnacles. The turn off is by some ranches about 5 miles north of the East Entrance. I have never driven it but on googles satelite imagery it looks like there are some promising roads leading off from the main road. But I am unsure on property ownership or yahoo status.

Adam, yeah totally spaced on that and its one of those roads I always talk about driving from one side to the other. Looks like there might be some exploring to do.
-
I am not 100% sure but I have seen signs that say no public land or something to that effect, and I have looked at maps that seem to show the same thing. My guess is that the road is just public acess through private land. Looks like a interesting but tough ride on a mountain bike.
-
Uncle Stink IS correct. I drove out it a mile or 2 last year and there was a sign stating that.
You can go down 25 past the Pinns another 1/2 to BLM land.
It's not the climbers the locals don't like, rather the hunters....
When I hit it big, I'll buy a shack in Monterey and ya'll can stay there.
-
when you hit it big, can we throw my bike on top of your car and not worry about the gas mileage?
-

HA HA HAAAAA- dream big Joe
-
That's why I bought a tdi....it's going to run forever and with good mileage. With 5 of use we did pretty well.
Munge...maybe gonzales?

maybe you could get a cot in Soledad State Pen? Perhaps someone to spoon you too F4?
-
I have driven an camped on Gloria. Know of others that have camped on Gloria. Be prepared to be rousted by unfriendly locals.
People have been known to get away with it by coming in late and leaving early. But, be prepared to leave.
One scary incident down past the Pins when in the middle of the night a vehicle pulled up unloaded a half dozen rounds then drove off.
-
Bruce H has ridden Gloria Road on his road bike.

YEAH, so I think I'll pass that. Reminds me of the night I camped at RR, and/or Keough Hot Springs.

And yer point is forest g????
maybe you could get a cot in Soledad State Pen? Perhaps someone to spoon you too F4?
Maybe he could get a job there and be closer to the pinns.
There is BLM land, but it's another 1/2 hour down 25.
Then again, why camp, when you can get a room in Hollister. Squiddo has a favorite one that he can recommend.
-
I can't afford hotels, as I am underemployed.

I've spent way too much time at the Monolith recently...
Yeah? What, you think you'd have been bettor off spending that time in the office?
-
Until this rain started the Monolith was my office. Gonna fire the proj as soon as this rain lets up. I came about as close as you can to sticking the dyno on Saturday. I will bust through soon and hopefully endure the harrowing bulge finish.
-
Good luck. I remember Mr Mud working that route and trying to stick that dyno.
Didn't Chris Belizzi say "to say you've done Ranger Bolts you have to top out."
-

Chris says a lot, thats why we love him.
-
I have been sticking the dyno but just haven't gotten it on a real burn. I agree with Bellizi, It ain't over until you are at the summit register. Those last move are pretty wicked.
-
To a certain extent turning the bulge makes the route. It seems the rest is difficult, but doing all that then pulling that bulge is daunting.
I have stuck the dyno but have not been able to link that with the lower section.

You know what sucks? I have never taken a pic there.
Weird, huh? Cameras were an afterthought, when I last visited.
Luddites From Venus, or some such. Ah, well. Today, such a thing is easily remedied.
Next Cali trip, maybe? Just diggin' on the Pinns pics over here, Boss.

We will try and post some more for you after the weekend.
