Title: The Flying None this Thursday?
Post by: Flowerpower on May 31, 2024, 08:46:53 PM
Hi All!

Assuming the Citadel is currently open I'd love to lead The Flying None on Thursday (high of 68 degrees?!) and I'm looking for an experienced partner as this will be my first multi pitch lead.

If you'd like to join me please message me and I'll give your more info about me and my climbing experience.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

~Jamie

Hey Jamie! I have not climbed Flying None yet and would love to climb it with you but unfortunately I have to work during the week.

Where are you seeing 68°? NWS is forecasting 96°. https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=36.48258852956482&lon=-121.14572525024414&site=mtr&unit=0&lg&FcstType=text

96 sounds about right for June.

When we went to do it we got up there just a little ahead of someone else that was going up there to do it (and we got there pretty early on a weekday).

The Citadel and Whitetail have perfect temps for climbing in the summer.  Costanoan and Flying None get sun in morning during the summer time.   The top two pitches of Power Tools also gets sun in the morning.  All of the routes go into the shade in the afternoon.

Even on really hot days with temps like 103 it is still cool at the Citadel.  Most of the time a good breeze will start up around 2-4 o clock. The trick is to do the approach early.  There's enough stuff to climb there now that you can spend the whole day.
