Finished books are coming off today. All copies will be done tomorrow. The printer selected two and placed them in overnight UPS to me. Alas, they got to UPS too late for delivery tomorrow. Delivery on Friday. Upon my review and subsequent OK the whole lot will ship for delivery about October 29th.
Anyone gonna want a copy?
Anyone want to come up friday after work for a beer?
-
If I end up not working that may be a possibility.
I will give a somewhat less ambiguous answer tomorrow.
-
Wow, I didn't think anyone would actually take me up on it! If you're serious, it looks like bad weather through Saturday and we'll be home. Bring Mudworm if you can.
-
I'd be all over that if I wasn't going to be down Solvang this Saturday "suffering" through a horrendously long bike ride... ;)
-
Finally!
I think we are going up Sunday if the weather is good to grid bolt something on the pass ;D
Maybe next weekend, using the guidebook at the Pinnacles?
Mr Mud, be sure to make a copy for me on your way home @ Kinkos.
Fueco, how can you suffer on the Solvang ride. The views are wonderful! The ladies from So-cal. Plus its all flat. I was going to go down for the Prelude, but have marital commitments that weekend. Be sure to hit a winery or 2 while down there.
-
Brad,
Congrats on all the hard work. I can't wait to chuck my old purple Rubine copy and pick up yours.
F4.....care to enlighten, Marital Engagements?
-
Congrats, Brad!
-
I figured I would use my copy for a trip to the woods. That paper he is using sounds quite nice.
Brad, It looks like we will be driving up Saturday morning if that works for you. I will bring a decent bottle of beer to celebrate with.

It does have 10,000 feet of climbing... I don't know that area all that well, so maybe they are all small hills? ;)

Romantic weekend away...
Fueco, which ride is it? It's mainly rolling hills, but 10k of climbing makes me suspicious that you are doing something different.
I hope the book has some cusion to it. They take the bite off that Pinnacles rock when sitting down.
-
congratulations Brad!
so what is the quickest, easiest way to get a copy?
joe
-
Wow, it is real! I have two copies and it's beautiful. From theory to reality with the opening of one package. It feels kind of like having a kid.
Joe, I'll be getting them into stores after I recieve the main shipment (about 7 days, maybe a few more until I get the main shipment). I haven't decided yet whether I'll sell them by mail myself, but maybe for a few early birds? Why don't you email me and let's see if we can work out something, maybe mail copies for you and some of your friends right away?
-
Hey Brad,
perhaps just assume that anyone on Mud n' Crud will want to buy one? I'm down for one I can tell you.
-
I'm a little surprised at how many people want copies quickly. I don't think it will be in stores much before Thanksgiving. I will commit to quickly mail out copies to anyone who wants them soonest (quickly meaning within 2 days or so of my receiving them). Such orders will be received what, a week or 10 days before the earliest availabilty in stores.
But, I don't want to be overwhelmed, I've got a real job too. So let's set a minimum of three books, a maximum of eight. Retail will be $35.00, so $30.00 per copy ordered direct from me, seems appropriate. Add $10.00 per order for taxes and shipping. Does this sound fair? Any takers can mail to PO Box 416 Twain Harte, CA 95383.
Any orders received by the time the books get here will get fast responses.
-
Also, anyone who wants a copy and lives nearby or is climbing in this area is welcome to drop in ("this area" meaning on the Sonora Pass Highway). We have lots and lots of climber visitors here. I'll be down at Pinns East Side the second weekend of November too. Maybe I should bring some then?
-
I'm hoping to get my copy then when you and I hit the Frog. :)
-
Since when?
But, I don't want to be overwhelmed, I've got a real job too.
-
Since I started working on a SPH 2nd edition. Duh!
-
Second weekend of November, eh?
Perhaps... I do want the guidebook. :)
-
Brad, congrats that it's done! I can't wait to admire your beautiful work.
Would you want to make an announcement to the local climbing clubs about the availability of the new guidebook? Rock Rendezvous is one (rock-rendezvous@yahoogroups.com). You can probably email to that list; or I can send one for you since I'm on the list.
-
The books are on the road today. For arrival on October 30 or 31.
I had no idea how much room this many books would take. Apparently I'm getting four pallets, each measuring 4 feet by 4 feet! Vicki's going to have to park outside for a few days.
Mudworm: sure, go ahead and let anyone know it's done. Availible at my house next week, spreading out to stores thereafter.

Let's see Pinnacles climbers having to drive out to Twain Heart to get a book for climbing down in Monterey.
-
Factor, I thought you were detail oriented. Didn't you read "Add $10.00 per order for taxes and shipping."?
Brad, Just to confirm before I send out the email to RR list. I assume the requirement of minimum of 3 still stands if people do direct orders from you, correct? That is, I assume you still have a real job?
-
Maybe Munge can spread the word on the various forums he posts on?
-
you want the whole world to know about it?

There's this place in Sonora that has a perfect long hand crack with lots of FA potential. Who wants to know about it?
-
send me a pm

Not that I climb or anthing.
-
So, I've got the tracking number for the shipment. Currently delivery is scheduled for November 1st. I was a little shocked though to learn that the 4 pallets of books (each a 4 foot by 4 foot by 4 foot cube) will weigh 4 tons. The book must be about 2 pounds, so that makes sense, but, holy sheet. Luckily we have a slab floor.
My wife has agreed to mail out shipments to those who've sent checks. They'll go out the day after the books get here.
-
Brad,
Are you going to get the Visitor's Center to sell the guide? Have you talked to them?
karl
-
Karl, yes on both questions. I know I've got an email of yours to respond to, but I've been so dam busy. I've got one of the older ones. How many of the new one do you want? Let me know, or just mail me.
-
The book must be about 2 pounds
Sigh....Why does the guide book have to be so heavy? The poor sport climbers are going to break thier backs carting such a heavy book around.
-
I'm planning on getting one of those trail running trike things, so I don't pull something.
-

Good man Karl. You can never be to be careful.
It's bad enough having to carry all those quick draws. And then a few cams.
Can't they just have toperopes setup and you just walk around with your harness?
-
I was allowed to thumb through the new guidebook yesterday. It's pretty nice.
The pictures are great. Pretty cool pictures.
Not too heavy.
Was anyone on Shake and Bake yesterday???
-
OK, delivery is scheduled for 2:00 PM tomorrow. Anyone care to come up to the house for dinner and a book?
Oh, and Factor's comment about "being allowed to" thumb through a book sounds odd, but it is accurate. It was my personal copy of the book, and his hands were dirty from climbing. Anyone who knows me (and my love - or is it obsession? - with my guidebooks) can now understand the phrasing. Sorry, Factor, I'll get you your own copy soon.
-
F4 you filthy creature......take a shower and for gods shake wash your hands after you visit that outhouse.
-
Can I use PayPal to pay for a copy of the book? I need something to motivate me to climb this winter... :)
-
No Pay Pal. And no "mail order" after the first "urgent books" go out. I don't have the time or inclination to do a lot of mailings. Cash or check. Drive up tomorrow.
And inspiration? Each of the three major parts of Pinns opens in the book with a photo that is characteristic of that area. The West Side opens with a nicely framed photo by Munge of you, on Lava Falls. Will that get you going?
-
Ah, okay then... I'll wait until you come down to Pinns next weekend... Unless someone else wants to pick up a copy for me (I'd reimburse them, of course!). :-*
-
Sorry, Fueco, didn't mean to be so brusque. It's just that I'm not set up to do sales, at least not by PayPal or the like. Even mailing takes a lot of time. I love guidebooks, and I know others do too, so I'm willing to mail sets out ASAP, but then, after that, I've got to just get quantities to stores and let them deal with sales. I think otherwise I'll be overwhelmed. I do have an arrangement with Marty Lewis (he does the Eastern Sierra guides) to do a lot of the distribution, which will take that load off me and make him a little money too.
I'll bring a bunch down to Pinns the weekend of November 10 and 11. That may be the easiest way to get additional copies out fast. Still, if you'd like to drop by for dinner (or trick or treat) tomorrow night...
Hope you like the guide.
-
Brad,
Are going to sell any at SNAC in Sonora or Arnold? I will be going though Arnold on Monday and would like to get a copy. Jeff
-
I assume they'll carry a few. I needed chalk today and thought I'd discuss the book with them too. But when I called I got the machine. I'll try again.

No worries... I'll try to get down there. Perhaps I can even scrounge up someone to carpool with... I'm probably working OT tomorrow afternoon, so driving up your way is probably out of the question.
-
Brad,
I'll mail a check today if you still have any unclaimed copied. Bratton will be down t the Pinns next weekend and could just pick it up from you if that would work?
-
Sure, I'll have few unclaimed. I think Bratton's going to the West Side though? We're going to the East Side all weekend.
-
Brad,
Ahh thanks for the clarity. OK, sending the check including S&H.
Cheers and thanks.
-
The books are here. They all look the same. Wow.
-
But how does your garage look now???
Gee Brad maybe we could meet at the High Peaks the weekend we'll be on separate sides?
Or for dinner at Sizzler in Morgan Hill?
-
Easy for you to say F4. Brad would be the one hiking UP to meet you with multiple 2 pound books ::)
-
It's simple. I have a new car in the garage. One with no wheels.
Can't meet you in the High Peaks. This is a long planned weekend with the family. I don't think it'd go over real well to climb during the day and bail for the evening (leaving Vic to do dinner and deal with the kids).
I have a friend who I'm pretty sure is going to join us. You know him, he once tackled you on the Yaks Wall. Would he maybe do a delivery?
-
Ubber? He still climbs?
-
Uncle Stinky, SNAC is closed this week for an employee retreat. So no bookw to them 'til next week. But, if you're going through Sonora, my office is only a mile from SNAC. Swing by for a cup a coffee, I'd love to meet you.
-
First sets of books are in the mail today to those who sent checks. Three to five day delivery
-
Brad,
I would like to swing by but is about quite a bit out of my way up to Bear Valley. I am just driving up for the day to get some things at our cabin and get some moutain time in.I have to make the most of my time that day. It would be nice to meet you too. If something changes I will email you a message. Jeff
-
Does the visitor's center have copies of the new guidebook now? Or will PE have any? I want to get a copy.
Thanks!
-
Planite Granite had a stack of them last week. Snap 'em up!
-
The East Side visitor center also has it, but you have to ask.
