Title: Tessa goes running
Post by: salad on March 19, 2008, 11:37:36 AM
So the Carlsbad 5000 is coming up in early April.  I'm not gonna pay money to go run 3 miles, but they do have some kids races the day before.

I asked Tessa if she wanted to run it and she started freaking out, proclaiming victory and asking about her trophy within 5 seconds of me finishing my sentence.

I know she is pretty quick and has decent endurance, but I had no idea if she could run an entire 400 meters without stopping (thats the distance of the race for her age group).

Yesterday I took her down to the track to test things out.  After a stern lecture about doing what I say the first time, no ifs ands or buts, no whining,  doing what I say the first time, and doing what I say the first time, we were ready to go.

It was like pulling teeth to get her to not go out of the gates at full speed, but she obeyed and warmed up by doing a 440 in 2:41 (she ran the entire way).  We then walked a 220 and then 'sprinted' a 220 in 1:03.  Another walk and another 220 in 1:01, another walk and another 200 in 1:05.

I thought it was enough but she really wanted more so we jogged another 440 in 2:31.

I stopped to take Shane out of the stroller and let him play around, looked up, and Tessa took off on her own around the track.  It so classic watching this little body haul ass taking the outside and passing up adults that were out jogging.  She blew past a group of two teenage boys and as soon as she passed them she turned to look at them, continuing her glare of "im leaving you in the dust!" for at least 10 seconds... I though for sure she was going to wipe out while looking backwards, but she pulled it off.  She finished the final 440 in a full sprint with her arms up in the air..."daddy i beat them i beat them!! are you proud of me!!!'

so classic!

Some people are just born to run...  :D

Give her a few years and she'll be beating daddy...
