Title: Nobody climbs these days?
Post by: mudworm on June 23, 2008, 03:48:54 PM
I know I've caught a mountain biking bug, and it will probably take a while to get over it. But I don't think the bug is epidemic. C'mon, someone has to be still climbing rocks somewhere. Anyone?

Precipitation for shizzle.  midday and then it opened up good at 3pm.  I'm quite thrilled that I wasn't on top of First Buttress when the lightning started up.   Apparently other tacoites had buzzing gear this last weekend.

Gone climbing on 9 days so far this month, so yeah, I'm slowing down the pace a little.

Hey I've been climbing, but to have slowed down. At least I have a valid excuse....off-spring on the way.

What I want to know is anyone climbing at the Pinns still?

Last week, I got 4 days straight of climbing in with my son, Cole. We met up w/Chris in T-Meadows and climbed Zee Tree (doing the 3rd class descent down the slabs) and Golfer's Route on Low Profile. Hit Whoa Nellie Deli and the Wild Willy's hot springs that evening. Climbed Iris Slabs (Rock Creek) the next day and then 2 days in Clark Canyon. Cole had a blast and did really well.

Brad - sorry we didn't connect. My bad - didn't really plan out the week very well so things just kind of happened.

Mudworm has not climbed a lot but I think she has riden her bike something like 45 days since March, perhaps more, plus a few days of climbin.

Sal, I think I may be able to get away for an attempt on the Quadfecta the weekend of the 23rd.  I will looked into taking a Monday perhaps Tuesday.  It is a bit difficult to commit 100% because of work.  But if I can get the time off I am up for a try.  Mudworm might join us.

weekend of the 23rd?  7/23 is a wednesday, 6/23 is behind us.  let me know what date exactly you are thinking...

Weekend Starting Saturday July 19.  I can probably get that Monday and possibly Tuesday off from work.  Will have to look into it.

My work has been a bit crazy.  Sometimes stuff just comes up and I end up working when I had planned on doing something else so I cannot commit 100% at this time.  If you have a solid opportunity I say take that opportunity.  I will start looking into whether there will be someone around to cover for me and if my other half will be onsite since only one of us can be gone at a time.

ok, im not committed either.  still wavering between suffering in the valley heat or the eastern sierra.

btw - you dont need more than 20 hours for the quadfecta, so you really dont need to take work off...

mud - i dont think im gonna pull the quad this weekend.  the valley is calling and my knee isnt strong enough for that kind of day.  i hope you havent been banking on it, but then again, i have called you at least 4 times in the past two weeks and have not received a return call.

i could be game for the quad or pal traverse on 8/9 or 8/23 though...

All my climbing is happening indoors at the moment. We've been swamped with moving, renting the condo, and family events, but are planning some long overdue outdoor climbing. Hopefully this Fall will be good in the Valley. Gotta finish the rostrum.

By the way, any of you climbed in Los Padres? The fire footage seems to show some nice looking rock in the background...

I will give a call during the day today.  Have been fairly lax with the cell since my headset quick working.  Probably a good idea not to push the knee plus that Valley is just a good place to be.  Amazing considering the Rangers, hoards of crowds and everything else.  August could work.  Let me look at my work schedule a bit.

Sheesh. This thread was really about "hey, why are people not climbing?!"

Anyway, what I've found that works really well for me is attending group rides.  I have been riding Arastradero on most Mondays with dirt divas and Water Dog with Passion Trail on Wednesdays. Looks like I'll be riding with road divas on Tuesdays.  You know that their rides are always there, so you can plan accordingly. And if on any day, you can't make it, the ride will happen with or without you. So, less pressure and no guilt, and no back-and-forth coordination. Plus, you meet fun people too. Don't tell me you are too shy to meet new people.

A few rides I know of that's happening down south can be found here (http://www.romp.org/index.php?module=PostCalendar) and here (http://www.mere-mortals.org/event_calendar/index.html).

Cool munge, see you @ 6p.

Squiddo, you in?

Mud - I may start joining you and/or other group rides at some point once the Blur is built up and tweaked after some test rides. The Gary Fisher is probably not what I want to be riding at Waterdog or Skeggs.

How was the 12 hours of Whiskyville last year?
Title: Re: Nobody climbs these days?
Post by: squiddo on July 17, 2008, 08:39:34 PM
12 hours of Weaverville? It was fun.....I love those events (grassroots) sooo much more than the Adrenellin ones. The course (besides being SMOOOKIN HOT) was fairly flat. So much that it sucked on a single speed due to the flat spinning. The climbing was an open exposed fire road that climbed until it got progressively steeper. Never to much soo.
