I want my old body back!!
Saturday, I decided to try out my new commute route: Foothill Expy-->El Monte-->Moody-->Page Mill-->Arastradero-->Hillview. Overall, I felt pretty good. Blew past some folks on Foothill and did the climb up Moody without too much huffin & puffin. The downhill on Page Mill is fun (need to work on my technique though - I seem to be a lot more timid tipping the road bike over compared to my motorcycle). I completed the loop back home (~20mi roundtrip). Nothing major and I felt like I hadn't worked too hard.
So of course, I decided later that day to go for a 5 mile run. Kept the pace slow purposely since I haven't been consistently running in a while. Didn't really stretch that much. Sure enough, at the halfway point, I pulled a muscle in my right calf and had to limp-jog the rest of the way back.
Hurt like hell for a day. Getting better, but still tender. Had to burn gasoline to get to work today. Hoping I can ride tomorrow. Grrr...

Do a couple of hill climbs on your bicycle with mudworm.

slow for you is what, a 5:30 mile? drop it down to 9 or 9:30 for a few weeks. gettin old blows.

Ha! Wish I was in that kind of shape. I was probably on target for about 8:30 until the calf went. Ended up with a 10:15 pace.

i managed 5.25 (loop route) yesterday. longest since the race. i was running 9:15s but ended up at 9:30 cause of the gigantic hill.
anyway, first run since the race where the knee has not hurt at all during or afterwards. hoping to start getting out 3/4 times a week and slowly get back to real mileage.
heartrate is WAY up though. 175 on the steepest part of the hill.

Calf muscle is loosing up today. I'll ride tomorrow to work and see how it goes. Hopefully I'll be able to run again by Friday (would like to get a quick run in before Kelly and I head up to Tahoe).
Also thinking about signing up for the Pre-masters class (10 wk session) at Santa Clara Swim Club...yes, I am thinking about doing triathlons.

Watch out on the calf muscles. Pulling them sucks big time.
I did it a couple years ago and it still gives me issues. SMI did a great job on getting the back tissue out.
Gone are the days of going off the couch. Welcome to stretching and jazzercise.

I pulled a muscle the other night and rather enjoyed the experience.

That's not a muscle.

then how come it always feels pumped?
-
F4, did you say jazzercise?
-
I pulled some random muscles next to my left achilles tendon about 1/4 of the way through my ride on Saturday. Damned thing still hurts a little... But I'm still going for a light spin this evening... >:D

It just came to me while typing cuz when the knees give out we aren't going to be able to do much.

God, it must be like squeezing an anemic, dwarf, naked mole rat. Does it squeak when you squeeze it too hard?

Oh so wrong, just wrong. How can a mole rat be naked, even enemic???

Here's a pic...

...of a naked mole rat, not Mr Mud's muscle (although the likeness is uncanny!!!).

Well, healed fast. On Tuesday, I rode the Gary Fisher to work. After work, rode up to Arastradero OSP from the office and did a few laps around the trails and then rode home. ~20+ miles total for the day.
Going for a run today - prolly up to and around Rancho. Depending on how I feel around 5p today, will go for the old 7mi loop that goes part way up the PG&E trail (but prolly will just do the easier 5).
Bought a Bosu Ball for the house so I can do balance/stabilization work while lifting weights.
-
dood, that is one sick and messed up mole.

You would know the likeness of his muscle since you lived with the guy.

Well, here's the report on the run...
Took off around 5:15 from the house. Didn't even get a 1/4 mile in and my right calf was in pain and stiff. I decided to keep going to see if it would loosen up. It was a really strange feeling - my left leg wanted to blast and my right leg felt like it had a 15lb ankle weight on it. Needless to say I was moving slow.
Kept going, knowing that my pace would be off (quite a bit). Got to the equestrian parking lot and ran up the hill. My lungs felt good and my heart wasn't pumping too hard (granted I wasn't running to fast), but the calf was still pretty stiff. Got to the water tower and knew I wasn't going up the steeps, but I didn't want to take the short route home, so I decided to split off on the trail that cut down towards the farm and reconnects to the Wildcat Canyon trail. Going down the switchbacks, the calf seemed to loosen up a little and was feeling OK (not great, but OK).
Got to the intersection of the Wildcat Canyon trail. The *smart* thing to do here would have been to turn right and have a nice flat jog back to the parking lot and then home. However, Pantera's "A New Level" just came on in my earphones. Nothing like some good heavy metal to make you pumped up and stupid...so of course, I went UP the Wildcat Canyon Trail. Slogged my way up to the short, steep connector trail back to the PG&E fire road and ran back down. Yeah, not the brightest thing to do. Calf started to flare up again and I had to kick it way back. Got back to the parking lot and jogged back.
Somewhere around 1h 15m I farted something nasty (just thought I'd share that)
Got home. 1h 25m 57s. Yeah, a lovely 11:30 pace for a 7.5 mile run. Grrrrrr... Oh this is KILLING ME!!!! Everything feels great except the calf.
The really bizzare thing is that my calf doesn't hurt when I bike - climbing hills or anything.
Well...thinking about doing the pre-masters swim program (10 wks) at the Santa Clara Swim Club starting next week. If I can't run, might as well swim.

I just started my daily arm curl routine. The left arm is a bit stiff so I'm alternating. The foam cozy is supposed to help over-usage injuries.
Buuurrrrpppp!
