Title: Family/High Sierra Trip
Post by: Brad Young on August 01, 2008, 09:13:55 PM
Took a five day trip with the family (all five of us). Out of Green creek, in northeastern Yosemite.  Superb weather. The girls and I got in three new High Sierra Summits. I hiked an extra 8 miles to get in two more. Almost all class 2, with one section of class three that I spotted the girls on.

An evening in camp with Tricia:

Another, similar photo, this one for Joe. He gave Tricia a copy of the book Black Beauty. She finished it (the whole book) this trip. She hasn't even started first grade yet (maybe we've got someone here who's as smart as Mudworm?).

Katie is almost a teenager now. She likes to sleep in:

Speaking of Katie, some of you will be surprised by how tall she is now - 5' 5". This is Katie and Vicki in camp on our last night:

Oh, I forgot one of my favorite details. Four people, five days. On the last day we ate breakfast and started hiking with five miles to go. We had three granola bars and a few pieces of dried fruit left. Stopped on the way out for a light snack. We finished the trip with no food (zero) left. (Then went for big burgers in Bridgeport). The last scrap of food:

Mudworm, did you mean Katie looks like Vicki in that photo, or that her wanting to sleep in is so like Vicki? Both are true.

Brad,

You are sooooo f@#ked!!  ;D

In all seriousness, Katie and Tricia continue to amaze me - both very bright and capable. Clearly they take after Vicky.

When he said beautiful family we all new Brad was not part of that reference.

Brad is not nearly as screwed as you considering I have relatives in Fargo.

Notice the date on the report people: this is from 2008. It happens to be where Munge went backpacking with his family this year (when he told me that I sent him  a link to the report).

I have to admit that I started laughing when I read it. It's hard to imagine Katie at only 5'5" !!

Ah yes...Back before she read the Teenagers Handbook to the Universe and learned how uncool adults are.

The good ol' days eh?

Definitely the good old days.

But you must be somewhat beyond your own teen years as you've forgotten that that Handbook attributes uncoolness almost exclusively to parental adults. There's a long list of adults who are still cool in her life, including Steve and Alan (they both work for - totally, totally cool - Apple and both take her climbing). My way hip sister is on the very cool list too.

Still having the good old days with the younger one though. She and I just summited her first 14,000 foot peak.
