Oh, just some pictures of the opening ceremony almost brought tears to my eyes.

More pix with caption in English: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/08/2008_olympics_opening_ceremony.html

I'm torn. I want to watch it, but that will set up back into the pattern again. We probably will hit the road.

did anyone here jim rome's rant about the olympics today?  it bugged me, but what bugged me more than the rant was the that there was some truth to it.

We missed the opening ceremony broadcast. Ron tivo'ed it for us, but we never got time to watch it at his place. I'm still amazed every time I see some new pictures of the event.

Too bad not all the fireworks were real. It seems they added a few in for the viewers.

Some of the fireworks the displays that they wanted would have caused a hazard if people were around when they went off.  So they prerecorded those and added them in digitally.

They also digitally added in the torch bearer running on top of the Coliseum.

Even with those mods it looked like an awesome event.
