I have to confess that the no parking sign at the west entrance cattle guard was put up to discourage Holmgren and me.  We often parked just outside the gate when we worked on new routes at Piedras Bonitas.  This irritated the heck out of the rangers.  We'd arrive at four in the morning, hike the fence and ridgline via headlamp, drop down to Bonitas and climb.  We'd get out midday, usually in July or August, so nobody wanted to sit around out there and catch us.

I read that story about the sweltering heat.  Proud push thru the heat!

Seems like there is no real reason for it (at all?  nowadays?) Maybe they'll get rid of it now.

Once some like that is in, rarely does it go away.

Hey Waldo! Jim and Eric and I (and our wives too) were all over there yesterday and today. Rain yesterday left us looking for a hike. So, we parked outside the gate and hiked the fence-line. (Little James came along too). Quick way in to Peidras Bonitas. Then we went past there, looking to get to those pinnacles you can see from the road on the side of North Chalone Peak. Unfortunately they're outside the park, and max out at 20 feet high. Still, nice hike, thanks for the idea.

Nope, it was a long way to the Peidras, choked with poisen oak and ticks.

Hey, I swear it's true. I'd tell you the same thing though if it weren't true.
