Since we were already down in Santa Cruz for Katie's climbing comp yesterday, we went for our planned climb today, Old Original on the West Side. Climbed with my 13 year old daughter Katie and my friend Jerome, who up to now I've only done long High Sierra routes with. The weather gods let us pass. Big black clouds but no rain; that is none until we got in the car at the end of the day. Gotta like that luck.
Katie led two of the three 5.5 pitches and Jerome led the other. Both of them loved the exposure. Jerome thought the route compared well to some of the High Sierra routes we've done (I agree, it's just a stellar route). We did the standard descent.

Big fun, good luck and good company.

Brad, is that the same red-ish sweatshirt you were wearing yesterday at Pacific Edge? Oh, with that beautiful bright smile, who needs the sun!
-
Yeah, that's my sweatshirt. Just wait until you've got kids that age. What theirs is theirs. And what's yours is theirs if they need it. It kept her warm, that's the main thing.
-
really nice tr and photos.
thanks for sharing that. you're very lucky.

Super cool!

Salad, you can see yourself there in 6 or 7 years?
BTW, Katie and I talked about her hair and rappelling (the photos show it hanging too loose). She didn't have a hair clip or band, so we were both very careful to watch while she rappelled. Next time a pony tail is mandatory.
-
good call on the pony tail.

Brad,
Sorry I missed this outing. I do dislike sliding down that standard descent during the rainy season. I also agree that Katie would be safer with her hair up. I've seen not so funny things happen on rappels. I got my right sock caught once. Don't ask.

"I got my right sock caught once. Don't ask."
OK, that was the type of comment that the phrase LOL was invented for. My drink almost came out my nose.
-
Most def Brad, hopefully sooner. Pony tail is mandatory. Ive gotten my locks tied up in the ATC while rapping with a pig. Not much you can do but just let 'er rip!
-
At least she does not have to worry about getting her beard caught in the rappel device. Salad is correct, ya just gotta let her rip, OUCH.
