Title: A Trip to the Zoo
Post by: Brad Young on February 13, 2009, 12:20:31 PM
Left for the office this morning, usually a 25 minute drive. With the snow coming down, I planned on 35. Got down to the base of the Twain Harte Grade easily. Then all the yahoos started gathering. Four inches of snow fell in Sonora and all the idiots who don't or won't put on chains and don't know how to drive in the snow go out anyway (we drive four wheel drives with studded snow tires - makes things pretty easy to drive, snow or ice, if you don't get carried away). After 20 minutes spent just trying to get onto Mono Way from the Highway 108 bypass (one quarter mile), I gave up and turned left. Now I'm working from home. Brownouts in Sonora, downtown was stopped gridlock traffic. Slide-outs and crashes all over. At least it's Friday, three days now to stay home and play in the snow with the girls (all three of them!).

Dug the Suby out yesterday (except for the snow on the roof). Here it is now:

I better get some lunch and then go snow-blow the driveway.

Still snowing here, so we sledded the road in front of the house (this is taken from the top of the driveway - those who have been here won't recognize the road?):

The girls like to "cliff jump" too across the street:

The La Honda and San Jose contingents have departed. Still snowing. Measured the snow on the roof: 29 inches. Snow settles over a period of days, so I think this storm system has dropped three feet or more?

"The Mr Mud system here is pretty low"

Not sure if you intended a pun or not. If so, pretty clever.

Another foot today. Beginning to get tiresome. I find myself pondering the snow load rating to which our roof was built. Well over three feet on the roof now:

Looks like Snow Hoops was a high scoring game.

The first sunny morning after snow is always very pretty:
