Title: Henry Coe State Park January 3, 2015
Post by: Skyline35 on January 04, 2015, 02:17:07 PM
Today was a group ride for Chris who is going to have toe surgery on Tuesday. She’ll be off her feet for a couple months and it goes without saying, off the bike as well.

An exciting moment on the morning drive south on Highway 101 when the rear tire on this bus disintegrated. A wisp of tire smoke is visible:

And so it begins, cross the stream and climb the Jim Donnelly Trail:

I'm disappointed that the camera didn't focus on the next two photos (it had focus problems all day):

The group starting up the crushing Serpentine Trail:

And so it ends, long, long Middle Steer Ridge downhill (aka Severe) followed by a half-dozen stream-crossings in Hunting Hollow:

It was not as cold as it looks like in this photo of Dexter Pond that afternoon. Still, it was impressive to think you could ride across this frozen pond until you got in the middle of it before it cracked and you would collapse into the water and die.

Here's a flat toad in Coit Road. I know many of us saw this fellow on recent rides in better condition.

I don't know what these peeps are saying after climbing Serpentine, and we had a coupl'a Serpentine climb virgins along, but I was thinking about how great it is to have a seat dropper to use descending Middle Steer Ridge!

That was at Sierra View, not Serpentine.

So warm and comforting, if only I had thought of that.

I wouldn't think the water could even reach my knee. But cold feet is no fun either, so you will never see me riding across any frozen pond.

Wish Chris the best on her surgery!
