We received notification that the old PHP version will only be available for 6 more days before a full upgrade on April 29. We are taking Aaron's help to try to upgrade the forum in order to work with the newer PHP version and keep it up and running for ever and ever, but I thought it would not be fair to the folks if we don't communicate with you about this deadline.
I am very hopeful that we will be able to survive through it, esp. with Aaron's help, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared for all outcomes.

Thanks for letting us know, thanks for the effort, and good luck!!!

A pre-emptive sayonara just in case.

Let me know if you need help, I can volunteer James.
Thanks for keeping the forum alive.
BTW, this is an Anti-Neil Young and Joe Walsh forum.

It's different. Anybody else see green?
Spent a few hours on this thing already. Been battling issues, bizarre behaviors, and mysteries, so right now, I'm seeing stars.
Imagine you want to change your house, but do not feel confident in making drastic changes to it in one shot because many people are living in it. So you replicate the house on the side, which oddly is an easy task. You spend days hammering away in that replicated house and trying out ideas, but none works the way you intended. Frustrated, you come out to take a breather, only to find out that all the windows and doors of the original house mysteriously vanished. You didn't even touch it!
Oh well, this forum is right now looking weird. I don't have any explanation. At least, the words are still here.
Again, brace for the worst outcome.
BTW, it looks like changing a browser might change the appearance of the forum too.
-
You have a lot of patience. Sounds very frustrating. Thanks for all your hours of work.
Green forum is ok by me. Now it's back to normal tho.
-
Thanks!
Hope the forum does get a full reboot.
-
I'm disappointed in myself. I told Mr. Mud that I would not pull an all nighter, and yet, here I am. :failure:
But I think I got the upgrade figured out. At least, my side house is all transformed. Only hope to put in all the same hacks and workarounds here. Will do it on Sunday (yeah, today, but I need some sleep first, and maybe even get a bike ride in first). Will be putting the forum in maintenance mode for a few hours when I work on it. That's when I'll ask for everyone's patience.
-
I’ll put the forum in maintenance mode in the afternoon and hope to bring it back up online by 5pm all upgraded and all, but it might extend later if things do not go smoothly.
Thank you all for your patience.
-
Wow, nothing's changed! Which, I think, was the whole point?
Thanks for the work, all of which remains invisible (other than for a few hours there).
-
Things changed a little bit, but oh well, sometimes, we just have to let the past go.
But otherwise, the major upgrade of the forum is now complete. I have updated the PHP to the latest version, and things are still working, so we will be good for some time. I think.
Okay, now I need to get back to my work in preparation for Monday. You all carry on playing here....
P.S. I just noticed that the embedded Youtube videos are not showing. Good! (Oh, did I say that out loud?) For now, you can just paste that ID into youtube URL and can still view it, so I won't treat this with high urgency. I'll try to work on it in a future weekend.
P.P.S. that was the only glitch I personally noticed from the upgrade. Please do let me know if you notice other bugs, so I can have a list of to dos.
-
Mudworm you are the best and so humble, thank for the all the hours, the very late night, and mostly giving up you weekend. Your the best and a true Master.
Again, many thanks. We all owe you one.

Of course. I'm the humblest person in the world!
Master of mud? Nah... I will pass. Just trying to live up to the prestigious title of Head Mistress.

Us old people will have to get used to ocean blue. But wow!! You saved the site. Thanks for all the work.

Mungie will be happy - looks just like the SPH forum now.
I was kinda hoping to log in and have a mushroom cloud video play as you enter the site.
I think we also need a COVID emoji since we haven't seen enough of that.

Thanks - much appreciated!

You are ,without a doubt, the Head Mistress

What is the other forum??

I noticed when sending messages the site confirms that the message was sent - but up where it says My Messages (at the top of the Home page) it does not indicate that you have a message (it used to show a number when you had a message). Folks won't know they have a message until they get an email notification - which doesn't always seem to happen right away (at least it didn't used to). I just did a test and it did send me an email notification right away.

Easy enough just to check your inbox periodically if you message somebody.
I was just giving trying to give regular users a heads up.
I'm very grateful to have this forum.
Hopefully the PC police won't find us. :yikes: :puke:

Got the notification from our web hosting service that there will be a PHP upgrade on March 31. Will the forum package still work after that? Most likely, but nothing is guaranteed at 100%. A general rule, please do not keep anything of great value to you on this site without a personal backup.
Just an FYI.

I deleted the Rebolting Master List sticky today since I have been unable to update it.
Last time I tried (a couple weeks ago), it wouldn't post more than the first few lines and I lost what had been there (the list).
I tried everything i could think of before giving up.
-
You deleted the list? wtf?
-
You deleted the list? wtf?
Let me splain Lucy.
I periodically go in and update the list whenever new work gets done.
To do that, I delete the old list and copy and paste my version of the most recent document with the updates. Then I put one post past the list to show the most current update(s).
It has always worked just fine - until a few weeks ago,
When I copied and pasted the updated list, the forum truncated my post to the point where it didn't show anything but my explanation of the listing - no climbs were displayed.
I tried different length versions, different formatting, hell I even tried deleting the whole thing and reposting it from scratch. Nothing worked. Rather than post that it is temporarily unavailable (that's what I did the last few weeks as I kept trying) I just deleted it. I created it. I still have all the information but no way to post it.
Nuff said?
-

Really not sure what happened as the admins did not do anything "a few weeks ago." Well, even with this reply, I'm posting the second time as the first time just went to "cannot display..." Maybe this site is self destructing.
For you, I think a workaround could be to post screenshot(s) of your locally maintained list as images?

Damn! and I was just getting clink close to being able to post a decent photo!
11 screenshots is what it would take.

Anyone else been able to use the retrieve login name step successfully?
Just tried it and not seeing it in the inbox or junk mail. Managed to figure out why login wasn't working and I'm in now, so no rush on my part. More just fyi.

Noticed the forum has been on the blink the last couple days.
It wasn't working last night and now again today.
Messaging function was giving me issues this week too. :crying:
Is it getting ready to implode?
-
It's the bots.
-
I thought about that.
They must be doing a dance in the background shaking things up - the bots a nova (groaning emoji)
