Fresh meat or faux treat...
« on: July 22, 2015, 03:01:13 PM »
Does anyone recognize these pinnacles from the latest NPS postcard?
I thought I did at first but some of the summits don't jive.

*sigh* It happened again -- this is not the first time cheating was spotted. Do people not research their material any more? (Previous time: see the "Can anyone identify this climb?" thread.)

And why? Does Pinnacles not offer one single possible beautiful shot to make it to its own postcard cover??? Not a single one?

Is this a shot from Mexico?
http://izismile.com/2009/05/15/mexico_landscapes_very_beautiful_45_pics.html

Yet here it is captioned "Watching the sunset from the Alabama Hills"
https://www.flickr.com/photos/wwwca/

There are still more references to this photo online and everyone is calling it their own shot and naming it whatever that suits them. Cheater cheater everywhere!
Inch by inch, I will get there.

Can't get your links to work mudworm

The rock color doesn't look right either - looks like desert varnish on JTree or Alabama Hills granitics? weird...

I think I've seen those on the Condor Gulch Trail on the way to the High Peaks.  They are maybe 2 or 3 feet tall. ;)

Should have stayed a Monument.....now the pressure has lead to cheating.

I'd like to talk to the person that purchased those postcards for the park.

^^Uhoh. Could be that guy that told us that the Condors hang out in the afternoons by the visitor center and not at Tuff Dome.  That dude would make a postcard that said California Condor with a Turkey Vulture on it.

Extremely distasteful image.

Wow, that's frustrating... Definitely not from Pinnacles N.P. It does look like the Alabama Hills. I'll try to talk to Linda Regan (at the Visitor Center) about it.

Real treats this morning. Due north of the Alabama Hills.

Thanks for the follow up Gavin. I also saw that same pic on another site (Bill Wight Photography) saying it is in the Hills and the image is copyrighted.

I would really like to see some of your pictures on the postcards :)

How many Hills routes did you do clink? I see temps are similar to Pinns.
Lots of good stuff there in the shade early and late - multiple corridors too.
Or are you just working on the muffin top? :)

The obvious solution for so many reasons.

I think that the Park will be concerned about whether their postcard supplier/producer has involved them (unintentionally) in a copyright violation too.

Unless that guy was paid for that pic.  It is disappointing that they cannot find a good pic of the Pinnacles to use.   One more vote for a Gavin pic.

Thanks for the support, gang. Believe it or not, from a business perspective it is hard to price professional-looking postcards at a price that is profitable for the photographer and inexpensive enough for visitors to buy it, even producing cards in bulk. But I'll chat with Linda and see what she says.

I vote for a Gavin pic. My friend Ed Haskell has some good ones, too.
