The family PC is on it's last legs. We've realized for a long time it needs to be replaced. Did it today. Brand new Mac coming. A terabyte of hard drive, four gigs of RAM. And it's a Mac. The whole computer is the 24 inch screen. No extra cables and crap. And did I mention it is a Mac? Plug it in and start using it.
I'm not terribly computer literate, although I've made big strides in the last decade. I've now used my Mac Powerbook for 5 years. Such a great tool. I've also used our PC here at home, and we use PC at the office. I can fairly say that I've used each type enough to have formed opinions about their relative utility. Using Mac is like belaying with a new, modern tube-type device. Using PC? Well, I guess the best analogy I can make is that it is like belaying with an old Figure 8. Figure 8s work, I've caught falls with them; but modern devices work so much better: light, powerful, elegant and efficient. Easy to use. Maybe the spread is wider? Maybe like using jumars as opposed to using prussick knots.
I think Katie is gonna have kittens about this. She loves the idea, loves Mac. It took some effort for us to persuade Vicki, but it took effort to persuade me too 5 years ago. Let's see what she thinks in a month.
Apple dropped the ball in one respect though. Our beautiful dog Madeleine is getting old enough that we're thinking about getting a second dog to keep her company. I asked my Apple representative if we should consider an I-Dog. Apparently they don't make them (yet).
