Can She Say That?
« on: June 11, 2009, 08:51:01 PM »
Katie just graduated from 8th Grade. She's at the school now at their end of year dance. Unbelievable ceremony, well done. Highlights:

- In an 8th Grade class of 46 students, 28 attended the school from Kindergarten through 8th Grade;
- Katie received the "Hope of America" award from the Sonora Kiwanis Club. The recipient is selected by the teachers, but the award is from a Kiwanis Member. This is the same club Vicki and I were members of here in Sonora. Katie attended weekly meetings with us until she was 2 years old (Joanie, who presented Katie the award was impressed that she's grown some in the last 11 years);
- Katie was selected as a Twain Harte "Wall Honoree." Each year the 3 or 4 most outstanding 8th Graders have their names painted on the inside of the gymnasium wall, along with the character traits that make them outstanding;
- She and a friend were selected to write and read an essay about their class camping trip;
- She was one of 10 students who were selected for outstanding citizenship/service, due to their active involvement in student government and rallies;
- The head of school athletics named Kate the most inspirational female athlete;
- A slide presentation of all the graduates, showing photos of each as babies and up to now;
- AND, Katie was recognized as the most accomplished 8th Grader in the field of Language Arts. In so recognizing Katie, teacher Kathy Olsen said, about her: "... accomplishments that positively scream out - 'first woman president.'" Can she actually say that?

In addition to the above, I can state that the whole group of kids (yes, even most of the pesky boys) are just an outstanding group of students.

Biggest lesson: This is only a practice, we've got her for four more years before she leaves for college. Enjoy those years, Brad, and make them count.

Leaving tomorrow for another week of camping, highpointing and hiking on the PCT.

Better Katie than Sarah.  Unfortunately for us the later will probably get the nod.

We should be so lucky to have Ms. P. run for the White House in 2012. Certainly, Katie won't be eligible for a few years yet.

Vicki had her own version of someone else in that Office. (We don't need to tell Katie the following.)  Five seconds after Ms. Olsen's comment Vicki leaned over to me and whispered: "yeah, Katie will make it to the White House... as Tricia's aide."

So, that would be Ms. T?  Is she getting a Mohawk?

If Ms. P. get's in I may have to talk the mudworm into moving to China.

Perhaps we will return after the Y's come in and clean stuff up.  I betcha both of thems know more history and government than Ms. P.

Doncha kno!

Palin will never get in. She's unelectable. That is why it would be so cool if she runs in 2012.

That is what I said about the Little Bush.

The American Public will sure fire vote for a non scholarly, rhetoric spewing, personable yahoo over an Intelligent person, without hesitation.

History has proven this more than once.

There is no such thing as a monolithic "The American Public." And take some heart from last November.

Munge in 2012? I might go for it; it'd be nice to have a president that we could boss around, tell what to do. Maybe move the national capitol west.

LOL!! Boss around?  You must have me confused with someone else. No one tells me what to do, not even me.

Actually was thinking about running in 2013 for good luck.

Wrongo buddy. It's clearly stated in the Bylaws, Masters of Mud, Chapter 1: "Older Masters of Mud get to boss around younger Masters of Mud at all times, especially when those younger Masters of Mud are elected to public office."

Mud is a LOT older than you. He at least gets to boss you around.

OK, this topic is old, and those interested may have to go back and read the beginning, but it's happened: Katie has been appointed to public office at age 15. She took the same oath that the state Governor took ("... to uphold the constitution..." etcetera). I especially like the "unanimous" touch in the letter, very nice. Here's the appointment:

This kid is doing pretty well. I can handle being the epitome of uncool when she's developing into such a fine young woman.

Congratulations to Katie!

Give her 20 years or so. I'll become a citizen just so I can vote for the first woman president. Katie in 2028!

Inch by inch, I will get there.
