US 2 - Spain 0 - WHHHOOOOHHHHOOOOOO

The US, after losing 3 - 0 to Brasil and 3 - 1 to Italy, by some miracle we managed to back into the 2nd round of the Confederations Cup.  Our reward was a match up against the #1 team in the world Spain.

Spain had won their last 15 games and was unbeaten in their last 35.  A streak going back to 2006.

Well the US pulled off a huge upset today beating Spain 2 - 0 and playing a man down about the last 10 minutes after a player got ejected for going into a tackle cleats first.

The US defense stepped up and played huge.  Our team has never really been known for it's offense and we reverted back to our glory days with our defense playing much better than they should be able to.

We got some lucky fouls and cards that came our way, but the same can be said for Spain.

Had to post this because it just blew me away.

Easily the biggest soccer upset of the year.

I was shocked too. Sitting in the lounge at the Subaru dealership, waiting for my car to get serviced; and watching the game. I was absolutely shocked when Beasley scored that first goal, as the team hadn't been playing all that well. But that goal sort of turned it around it seemed.

Biggest upset of the year? More like the biggest upset since USA vs. USSR in the semifinals of the 1980 Olympics hockey tournament...

Well we did beat Portugal a few years back to get out of group play in the WC.  That was a big upset too.  What makes this so big is Spain was on a tear and we ended it.  Some people have started calling this the Miracle on Grass.  I will go for that if we actually manage to win the Confederations Cup.  That seems unimaginable but I never thought we would get out of group play in this tournament.

Altador scored the first goal this game.

I really think Spain was looking past the US and focusing on playing Brazil on Sunday.

He definitely lost it, understandable though.   The second tier team his is playing for will not even start him.  Seems crazy that kid has talent and for a US player is huge.
