Riding The Rockies 2009
« on: August 20, 2009, 07:58:44 AM »
This has to become a regular trip... The Canadian Rockies is easily the coolest place I've ever ridden my bike. Can you beat blue glacier-fed lakes, jagged peaks and (mostly) friendly drivers (hint: the bad ones were all in rental cars... Californians?)?

I'll write up a trip report later. I've got to pick up my brother and his fiancee at SJC in less than three hours, so time is short...

Here are some of the highlights:

We rode through the upper reaches of three of the biggest rivers in North America (Columbia, McKenzie, and Saskatchewan).

We rode through three national parks: Jasper, Banff and Kootenay.

We rode three days: 98.6 miles on Sunday, 109.6 on Monday and 65.5 on Tuesday.

We visited three hot springs: Miette, Upper Banff and Radium Hot Springs (the latter was an awesome way to end day three on the bike!).

And never fear... For you ones that just can't get enough climbing, there's plenty of rock (and ice) along the road to climb. Pictures will be added to this thread as I get them online...
