Abandoned ropes- Cuidado
« on: October 05, 2009, 09:54:44 AM »
There have been a few ropes hanging in the area of Cuidado for a while now, blowing in the wind. It looks like one red line doubled over, connected to a single green line to reach near the ground. Does anyone know if someone is planning on returning to retrieve these ropes?

They will be removed by the NPS since they're considered abandoned property. If anyone would like to help, or plans on getting there first, please email me at brett_hergert@nps.gov.

Thanks!

This weekend is out or I would do it.  Extra rope is always handy especially when free.

Brad and I cleaned the one off of Resurrection, my bail biner was returned this weekend (WhooHoo).

The weekend after that I am on call.  So the soonest I could do it would be the weekend of the 24th.

Brett,

Wish I could. I'm out the next couple of weekends, but if the winter moves in sooner, I'd be happy to help on weekend time.  But probably better to do it midweek, eh?

Dang, we were going to try Cuidado the other week during the heat wave. Had we known we would have gone up it.

Wow last Spring? About the only thing I'd use 'em for now is towing pickups. Just the same, left that long they're an eyesore.

Thanks for the responses and willingness to help. We won't be getting to them any time soon, especially with the weather turning wet. I check the forum infrequently, so feel free to send me an email before your next trip and I'll let you know if they're still there.

Gulp, and to think how many times I've used one of his ropes on a TR.

From now on I want to see a receipt to prove it was aquired new.

Brett, It looks that Mr Mud is getting out there on Saturday. Are the ropes still there?

Guess we should send you an email too.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

I already sent him an email and asked if the upper part of the route is dry.

Hey Mr. Mud, can you take a wire brush with you? Maybe do some scrubbing while there?

I'll be there early Saturday morning to get on the route, partner permitting. I'll pull the ropes if they are still there. Is anyone wanting these back?

nolimit.....I'm not sure anyone on the forum had a care other than getting the trash off the wall. At this point they are abandoned and we'd all assume keep the park service happy.

Kyle-

Let me know if you will be removing the ropes.  I was planning on doing this tomorrow.  I might just rap in then jug out since I have not been climbing that much and have no idea if I have what it takes to lead this thing.

Just let me know what is up so I can plan accordingly.

Mud,

I've been wanting to do the route for a bit now anyways. If my partner is in, which I don't know yet, I'll get it done while I'm up there. I won't know for another couple hours though. Do you have a # I can contact you at when I know for sure? I don't have internet all the time, I'd gladly save the work of you going up there if I can.

Best,
-Kyle

Don't fret there Feral Rat. I'm heading home, ready to climb. I'd gladly go down there with you next weekend.
