NOTHING happened. Literally.

Here is an email I sent to a friend yesterday (so I don't have to retype everything):

========
Okay, so I came to work. Got busy. Then I felt that I wanted a shower to clear my head, so I went to the gym and did a 20minute light run on the tread mill just to break a sweat.  Then I went to lunch. Came back to my desk and started working. So far, nothing abnormal at all. All of a sudden (a little before 2:30pm when you sent your first email), boom! Some severe pain just flared up in my left ankle and it bent me over. I was just typing at that time and didn't even wiggle my feet! Anyway, I hopped to the breakroom and grabbed an ice pack. No relief. It got worse. For two hours, I tried to ice it, massage it, gently bend it. Nothing worked. It just got worse and worse. So bad that I was shaking and sweating, and feeling nauseous. I hopped to my manager's office and told him that I needed to go to the Urgent Care. I was going to drive myself because Erik just called me earlier saying that he was feeling sick (again) and was on his way home to rest. But I wasn't sure if I could go the whole way without passing out because it was just that painful.  Luckily, our administrative assistance lives in Palo Alto and offered to give me a ride.

After I got dropped off at the Urgent Care, it was the usual story -- endless wait at the waiting area, in the little room for the nurse to come, then for the doctor, then for the X-Ray technician, etc. etc. I was on the verge of tears the whole time and might even have shed some. The doctor could not see anything wrong from the X-Ray and told me I need to see a podiatrist tomorrow.  She sent me home with crutches (I need them because I couldn't put any weight on the foot) and pain pills.

While I was waiting, I had my iPhone and a book, but I managed to read the emails quickly, but other than that, I was in such pain that I could not function as in reading a book or typing emails. I think the pain pill has kicked in, and I'm in a comfortable position in the couch, so I feel better now.
=========

Weird, isn't it? I'm going to see a podiatrist in a hour. I wonder if he can figure it out. Pain pills are a godsend. I tried to stick it out and postponed taking a pill this morning and the pain came back so bad that it brought tears to my eyes. I gave in.

I'll be super happy if I can walk normal now, let alone climb or ride.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

Ouch!

 I once had an ankle sprain that I couldn't walk on the next day. The day after that, it was fine... Crazy stuff, I hope yours is like that too!

Let us know what the podiatrist says.  My brother is a podiatrist and does a bit of climbing and mountain bikes.
Good Luck   Jeff

The verdict at this point is a stress fracture.  She gets an MRI in the morning.  Looks like she is out for a minimum of a Month.

A little bummed that I won't be able to do the Low Key Bohlman ride in two weeks, but oh well, life happens. I was thinking of taking up knitting.

The doctor said that the stress fracture could be accumulative and at a random moment, the body's chemical and biological reactions just pushed it over the edge. Will know more after he sees the MRI. There is one hour after every three hours that the pain becomes unbearable when the previous pain pill has worn off and the next one has not kicked in. Being a type A person, I follow the instruction and take a pill every four hours.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

Um... don't mean to scare you guys, but the doctor just called and said that the radiologist did not find stress fracture. He still needs to see the MRI to confirm himself when I meet him tomorrow, but he wants to run some blood test on me too. I told him when I first saw him yesterday that I got a Dr. House case for him.  It seems that I did. Well, it could be just nothing. We'll see...

Inch by inch, I will get there.

Mud, now you got me worried! I hope this makes it good news though as stress fractures arent a party in themselves.
