Embedding Video?
« on: January 05, 2010, 04:42:50 PM »
Is the video embed option on?

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="
&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Only six seconds? Try enclosing the embed code <object ... /object> inside [h tml] and [/h tml] brackets (without that extra space).

Okay, did some research and found that full HTML insert is only allowed for the admin users. My bad. But I think I have found a way to enable html insert for < o bject>. Can you try the same code again and let me know if it works? I would test it myself if I were not so special. (Maybe I should register a regular member for testing purposes.)

Sorry munge, I went ahead and modified your post. Two observations:
1) You still need to enclose your embed code in [h tml] and [/h tml] clause
2) it does not let you post if all you have is [h tml]...[/h tml] in your post and complains, "you left the message body empty." So just type anything outside of that clause, e.g. I just typed "test" at the bottom.
It seems to be working now.

nope, I included the html tags in my post. I'll do screen shots if you want proof.

it fails at the permission level and then on the post it apparently omits the html tags for me.

Just tried it on my forum, and it works over there. I guess I'll have to cross link, which defeats the embed purpose. :(

Admin installed a new module: Aeva Media. Supposedly, all you need to do is post the link to your youtube page or the vimeo page like shown below. They both show fine in my Firebox browser, but the vimeo one is blank in my IE 7 browser.  Nobody is using IE browsers these days, are there?

Yeah, IE8 works. BTW, the syntax for posting video is what was shown in the quotes below -- just paste the URL itself.  If you quote testuser's post, you'll see something different -- it had been automatically modified by the plugin.

nice, how was the aeva mod to install?  the usual smoothness?  or specific tweaks?  thinking about adding it to sph.

Very smooth for me. No tinkering, no glitches. Download, install, apply. And it works. I only tested it's video embedding feature though.

BTW, congrats on the successful migration to SMF. (Been a while?)

yeah been up and good for awhile. some glitches with my hosting company. going to leave them eventually.  the migrated everything to a new directory without describing that I needed to modify my ftp client.  I've got outdated files everywhere now in two different directories for two different domains. ugh.

anyways, I ran the patches for my site and bw.com a day or so ago and the botnets came out the wood work. I can't help but think the patches wiped out the ban list, so I'm re entering those, but sph is unaffected. kinda weird really. why would the bots target bw and not sph?  doesn't make logical sense if maximum visibility it the goal. they lose nothing by targeting all smf sites.
