Germany for a week
« on: April 11, 2011, 02:45:06 AM »
The Frankfurt Airport is huge but the bathrooms are small and scarce.  I swear there is a single hole per terminal.  The was a huge line for the women's room.  People were better off on the plane.

The Hotel room is nice.  The bed is queen size or so but the blanket is sized for a twin.  Thought there was a mix up so I went and asked for another blanket.  Now I have two twin sized blankets.  The bathtub shower glass only covers half the opening so water will spray out on the floor if a person is not careful.

Lot's of bicycles.  Went out to dinner at a Vietnamese place.  Ended up standing there for a while because I thought he said just a minute but he said seat yourself.  I ordered Rice, pork and vegetables but got Noodles, chicken and vegetables.  It was very good.  I suppose 1 out of 3 is not bad.  I ordered a beer and got a beer and some warm, sweet alcoholic drink that was also quite good.

Went for a walk and got lost for the most part but some how ended up walking right up to my Hotel.

Seems many people think I am German since their introduction is what seems to be a long drawn out hello.  They should be able to tell be looking at me that I am American.  Really it is obvious, I am the only guy in town with a beard.

I love bilingual people!  A pattern seems to be emerging in that it seems people do not like to take credit cards from people that cannot speak German.  Two broken machines in two days.

Lots of bicycles.  One rather large girl bent over her bicycle pedaling with a fair amount showing in the back.  For whatever reason I do not think thongs are good for all women.  Call me old fashioned.

Germans seem to like beer, there is no way these are Pints.  Remember those 20 oz beers from the 80's?

Lot's of bicycles.  Restaurants do not like credit cards for charges under 20 Euros.  That is like 30 bucks.  Cripes.

Random encounter in restaurant.  only other folks work for the company.  One from Sweden one from Germany.

No free coffee in Hotel rooms.  This is desperate.

There is a reason most of the old historic buildings are gone.  Makes for an uncomfortable questions, sometimes it is best not to ask the obvious in a conversation.  Thank goodness for Swedes.

1 mile in the rain equals a short shower.  Tan slacks show rain.  Many people without coats or hats.

After 10 hours your computer will not let you work anymore.  The buildings are locked on the weekends.

One thing that I like about Germany.  They put mustard on just about everything.  I had to go back for thirds this morning just to get something else with mustard.

Lot's of bicycles, I think I said that already.

Pizza and beer are universal.  In Germany there is an option for mustard.  Eating pizza with a fork just does not seem right.  They need to fix this.

Supposedly there is climbing north of here someplace.

Have found it difficult to find something positive about Microsoft in the past but I saw some cool stuff yesterday.

They drink coffee in tea cups and tea in coffee cups.

There were a couple of Punk Rockers on the way to work.  Been a while since I have seen a Mohawk with spikes.

At tech symposiums it is possible to eavesdrop on German conversations.  Microsoft, Apple, Linux, UNIX, Kernel, IO, etc are common terms.

Walked out a ways to the town of Brauningshof turned a corner looked up and two Nuns were looking at me.  Could not help but think, "Wow they are prepared".

Went to a pub.  Two guys joined me at the table I was sitting at.  They both work for the company.

McDonalds is always a good place to use the restroom.  Kind of weird to see one in a building older than our country.

There is something cool about a 160 year old brewery.

I suppose I could walk over and takes pics of the McD's or the brewery but takin pics of Nuns isn't proper and just might be tempting the fates so there is no way I would go near that.

I am invincible.

No, I did not have that much time.  Plus that would have completely crushed my egomania.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

I'm afraid his power has grown too much. Germany only seems to have strengthened him.
