Since the East side campground has a campfire ban, my GF has nixed it as an option. I'm looking at the BLM camping in Williams Hill Recreation Area (which seems to have a similar driving distance anyway)
Anyone have any experience with this area?

True, but it takes an hour to get to the west side which is similar in time it takes to get from east to west side. I'm not going over the peaks with an iron and kitchen-sink clean aid rack.
Plus the campfire ban is nonegotiable to my GF.

same 1 hour drive and so since the lady is coming from LA, might as well save her an hour of driving.
